One mistake. They say you can’t be in love with two people at the same time, but that’s exactly what happened to me. I knew it would catch up with me one day but I didn’t expect that when I went down, I’d take Trent and Jensen along with me. Trent has always been the loving and dependable one—Jensen, unpredictable, cruel . . . and compelling. When Trent was given orders to deploy to Afghanistan … deploy to Afghanistan to test a highly classified and dangerous serum, I couldn’t shake the feeling that life was about to irrevocably change. Little did I know how much. My secret was just what an unknown enemy needed to destroy our lives.
And he did.
I made a mistake once, and now we’re all paying for it…

Absolutely Brilliant! Phenomenal Story & Listen
The Dark Side of Chemistry
A Standalone Military Suspense Romance
By: Ryleigh Sloan
Narrated by: Kylie Stewart, Jason Clarke, Aaron Shedlock
This book is absolutely amazing, it took me a while to get my thoughts together because the mind-blowing story left me speechless and I could not possibly find the right words to give it the praise it deserves. I think the less you know going in the better so I will be vague with details in my review, just know this is no ordinary romantic suspense it is so much more. It is best to go in knowing little and just hold on tight and enjoy the ride. The story drew me in right from the start, it did not just captivate my attention it held it hostage, this is one of the books that you can not put down because you need to know what happens next. Ryleigh Sloan is a gifted author with a brilliant mind and a wonderful writing style, the storylines and characters she created are interesting, original and complex, they are also realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. The descriptive details are fantastic, they bring you in to the story, right along side the characters giving you an inside view of everything they see, think and experience. The book starts out with Skyla and Trent, they’ve been together for three years and their relationship and love is rock solid. Trent works with her dad, a Colonel in the marines, they have been working on a serum that could help soldiers in combat situations and are conducting a study. Trent gets deployed to work with soldiers in the field, one of those soldiers is his brother Jensen. Skyla had met Jensen before Trent, they shared a special time together but he did not want to start anything because he was deploying overseas and did not know when he would be back. He never stopped thinking about her, it was the same for her but after months of moping around she decided to move on and that is when she met Trent, not knowing he was Jensen’s brother. Skyla opted to keep that information from Trent, Jensen went along with it but it left him with a lot of animosity and angst. When their mission in Afghanistan turns into chaos, Trent winds up injured and the mission is halted and they return home. After his return all their lives are turned upside down. I am still in awe of everything that happened this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, mystery, action, twists and turns, thrilling suspense that not only took me to the edge of my seat but had my heart pounding so hard I felt like it was going to jump out of my chest, heartfelt emotions and some hot romance. Ryleigh Sloan, thank you for this amazing story and the thrilling and emotional rollercoaster ride.
Ryleigh Sloan could not have chosen a better cast to bring her characters and their story to life. Jason Clarke, Aaron Shedlock and Kylie Stewart are fabulously talented voice artists, they had a complete understanding of the roles they were playing, took that role and made it their own sounding believable and just as I pictured them to sound. Aaron Shedlock played Trent brilliantly, grasped his persona in each scenario with perfection, Jason Clarke’s Jansen was amazing as well, performed every single one of his emotions and made you feel them. Kylie Stewart’s Skyla shone like the star she was, she captured her strength as well as her vulnerable moments. These three entertaining storytellers delivered an outstanding performance, a performance that enhances an already brilliant story another level. Thank you for this amazing listen!
The book is fabulous. I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say read it! Once I started I had to know the end I was so wrapped up on the story.
Then I was privileged enough to get an early copy of the auidobook and oh my gosh I hadn’t thought it could be better and it so was!
This story has a forbidden twist that just broke me from the very start! Skyla and Trent are perfect for each other…except they are both keeping some pretty significant secrets. That never bodes well, but this story takes it to another level. I had to stop a few times to settle myself. I knew it would break me, but I’m glad I kept listening. You will want to be sitting down for this ride with lots of angst and some definite surprises you will not see coming. I like the characters and the writing, but I was kind of doomed – this is just me and my own personal preferences, though.
Kylie Stewart, Aaron Shedlock, and Jason Clarke really did a fantastic job with this very emotional story of love, sacrifice, devastating mistakes, and loss. They were all amazing and I was definitely invested in each character. When they broke, I broke. When they rejoiced, I did as well. Honestly, the narration made this story for me given my difficulty with the subject.
I received an #AdvancedListenerCopy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
When we meet Skyla, she is in a relationship with Trent, her boyfriend of 3 years. There’s always been a love/hate thing going on with her and his brother Jensen. We find out later that there’s much more to the story. Lies, deceit, you name it.
This book had me on a roller-coaster of emotions with so many twists and turns it had my head spinning. I spent lots of this book angry at the characters, so much that I put it down for a few days. I am glad I went back to finish it because I truly enjoyed the writing and the narrator’s performances. While I didn’t like some of the plot, my personal preference didn’t keep me from completely enjoying the story.
Wow! I loved it! The story is original, and captivating! Skyla, Trent and Jensen are fantastic characters. The storyline is suspenseful, and twisted. Impossible to put it down. Aaron Shedlock, Jason Clarke and Kylie Stewart did a fantastic job with the narration. If you like Romantic Suspense, this book is for you! I need more!! #ALC #ComingSoon #RomanticSuspense
The Dark Side of Chemistry
By Ryleigh Sloan
Narrated by Aaron Shedlock, Jason Clarke and Kylie Stewart
There are books you love and then books you become obsessed with. This is one of those obsessive listens that you could not disturb me, and had me awake until it was over. I just had to know how it ends. Sklya is left behind as Jensen, the man she is falling for, is called for a mission. Little does she know how this will change her life. Several months later, she meets Trent and her life begins to move on. She realizes the two are brothers and swears Jensen to secrecy regarding their hookup. And we know how keeping secrets will go. When Jensen and Trent are on the same mission, the secret becomes impossible to keep. Will Trent understand? Who will Skyla choose? And what will become of the sensitive mission? Ryleigh Sloan takes us down the rabbit hole with this story. It’s fresh and new, with plot twists and turns I didn’t see coming. The romance is front and center with the interwoven military mission bringing high suspense and action. My heart was pounding, both for the danger and the love and I was shocked by the turn of events that took place. It’s the best kind of listen and completely captivated me.
The narration of this book was key, and the team of narrators cast could not have been more perfect. Jason Clarke is Jensen, the burly alpha with a heart the size of Texas. I loved his interpretation, bringing all the heart wrenching anguish, fear, bravery and love to Jensen. Aaron Shedlock is Trent and I have to say his performance is stellar. He goes from warm and lovable to cold and unemotional with such ease, it’s scary. He is fantastic! And Kyle Stewart as Skyla brings it all together with an expressive performance. She has every feeling down as Skyla was going through some incredible twists with her heart.. The team is amazing and truly made this listen one of my top of the year.
My first book by this author, i love how its written and i enjoyed reading this book but something was missing from it for me.
It needed more angst and passion between Trent, Skyla and Jensen. That being said i loved the secondary characters and would like to read more about them and how Trents life turns out.
Love triangle with a military plot.
I see great potential in this has a series.
This is my first book by this author and I’m not sure how I feel. I loved the plot with the military, the twists and turns that were thrown out way but to me it felt more like a suspense then a romantic suspense. We have a love triangle but at the same time it’s not. I don’t really like that is a spoiler and of it is I’m in advance.
The romance just wasn’t there for me. I didn’t feel the love between the characters and then when the “hero” was a jerk there was no big grand gesture to prove him self. It was all just bam, I love you. It all seemed forced to me. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn’t. The characters weren’t bad. I liked all of them through out the book. They each had strong personalities but it was all like friendship to me.
I would be willing to read more book by this author because she was very creative and I love the little twists that she added into the story. She made Trent, Jensen and Skyla very like-able characters even if we didn’t want to like them at some points in the story. I would like to see some of the other characters get their own stories. She did a great job at drawing me into like them. This rating is from my overall experience while reading the story. 3 stars #2OCCJD
