The Dare by author Carol Wyer is the third book in the Detective Natalie Ward series. At the end of the book, I was so emotional until wanted to call my grandchildren and warn them! I won’t post spoilers, but this story is as if taken from the headlines on news today.
Savannah Hopkins is the first young teen to go missing and later found murdered and left as if she was nothing more than trash. Within twenty-four hours another teen is missing! Who could be the connection to the sinister messages on their phones with the instructions to follow a DARE! And before the case is solved, Detective Natalie’s daughter is missing, will she find her before it is too late?
All parents should warn their children who have the use of cell phones and unsupervised apps!

Wow, this book grabbed on and did not want to let me go until I had finished the entire thing. What an utterly fantastic read. Cannot wait for another in this series.
When three girls go missing without any knowing connections Natalie Ward and her colleagues have to race against the clock and find evidence, witnesses or just a clue as to what might have happened to solve the case. But nothing comes to light and time is running out. Loved this nail biting story and couldn’t stop reading.
D.I. Natalie Ward has her hands full when the first school girl, Savannah goes missing. It gets worse when she shows up dead the next day. But when a second girl, Harriet, goes missing also, DI Ward feels pressured to the point that her team works over time to find this monster preying on teenage girls.
With a shortness of staff, Ward works more than she sleeps in order to find these girls, many times leaving her own family to work on this case. I could not for the life of me figure out who the killer was and still didnt until the end when it was revealed. Didnt suspect that one at all. But with the progress of the book, we find reasons for this gripping story.
This book is truly a page turner and keeps you guessing until the reveal at the end…
Another great read by Carol Wyer. THE DARE starts out with a chilling first chapter and quickly segues into a mother looking for a missing daughter. Natalie Ward is assigned to the case of a killer very much at large; one who could potentially be a threat to her family. There are short chapter points of view which are cleverly woven throughout the plot, adding a chilling dimension to the story.
When a missing girl turns into a homicide, Natalie’s ‘copper sense’ is put to the test. She sifts through evidence and conducts interviews where things aren’t what they seem. I particularly enjoyed the chapter where Natalie first meets Jane. The dialogue is sensitive and well written, especially given the circumstances. There are plenty of suspects to chew over; builders, creepy boyfriends and school friends, not to mention those trying to muddy the waters and perverting the course of justice. When you think things are looking up and David breaks open an expensive bottle of wine in celebration, another young girl goes missing.
Natalie pulls more suspects who continue to withhold nuggets of information. But when she stumbles across a twisted website—a dare for people to go missing for a few days—it begins to look like a trap. Wyer tackles the danger of social media head on and makes no bones about the twisted dangers that lurk within. The washing machine chapter was so terrifying—a disturbing image of humiliation and the survival of the fittest—I had to have a stiff walk in the snow after reading it. I’m not kidding when I say this really is one of those books you can’t put down. You can’t. And yes, it did have me leaving the lights on at night!
Many thanks to the publisher, Bookouture, and Netgalley for this advanced copy for an honest review. Love it!
The Dare by Carol Wyer is the third book in her Detetive Natalie Ward series. DI Ward has a husband and 2 children but recently found out her husband had a gambling addiction and that has caused tension and arguments at home. She has a great investiagtive team who have been very successful in finding the bad guys. In this story a young girl had gone missing and then her body was found the next day. This happens again the next day. And again the next day. The investigation is exhausting and everytime the team thinks they have a viable suspect evidence is found that their viable suspect is innocent. There are many twists and turns and some surprises as the story unfolds. This is an aexcellent murder mystery and I really enjoyed the characters and how they work together.
