She almost died in a fire and it wasn’t accidental… Can her trusty canine sidekick and new love interest help to reveal the arsonist before he can strike another match? Her entire life, everyone has just assumed that Nicole “Hawk” Hawkins was a pretty face without much substance. Now to prove them all wrong, she’s taken on the toughest job she could find—as a Redwood Cove firefighter. She’s not on … Redwood Cove firefighter. She’s not on the job long before a deadly fire nearly takes her life, scarring and disfiguring her once gorgeous features in the process.
The worst part of it all? What happened wasn’t an accident.
Arnold “Snowball” Winters, a detective with Redwood Cove’s police force, has loved Nicole since the day she first joined the station, and this new change in her appearance doesn’t change what’s in his heart. He’ll do whatever it takes to help her recover both her personal and work lives, recruiting Chance, a young Golden Retriever, to help in this mission.
No sooner is Nicole released from her lengthy hospital stay than another freak fire threatens her again—this time in her own home. Can Arnold and Chance find the culprit in time to save Nicole’s life… and maybe even win her heart while they’re at it?
Healing Hawk is book eight in the Gold Coast Retrievers series. Each book stands completely on its own, but you’ll have more fun if you read them all together!

Great story, caring characters, loveable animals; Olivia had me laughing at most of her one-liners!
Highly recommend this series of you love dogs, mystery and love stories
I love all the books in the Gold Coast Retrievers series. Healing Hawk is an emotional story about a woman who is valued for her face and figure. She leaves modeling and becomes a firefighter resented by the men in the fire house. There is an unknown arsonist setting fires that twice nearly kill Hawk. With a love interest, a therapy dog, suspense and romance. this book kept me from all my chores until I reached the end!
Healing Hawk (Gold Coast Retrievers #8) was a great read by Becky Muth. Nicole “Hawk” has always known that everyone just thinks she’s a pretty face with no substance. She decides to become a firefighter to prove everyone wrong. Not long into her new job, a fire nearly takes her life. It does scar and disfigure her face. They know that it wasn’t an accident but they don’t know who it was. Arnold “Snowball” is a detective who has loved Nicole since he met her. I loved reading Hawk and Snowball’s journey and can’t wait to read more by Becky Muth.
romantic, suspense, friendship, law-enforcement, firefighters, dogs, arson
How could I go wrong? Lady firefighter, small town cop, wonderful dogs, lessons learned, and all wrapped up in a lovely HEA worthy of Guideposts magazine! As the only female in the department and a history as a former model, it seems that nobody takes her seriously until she risks it all to save a distraught homeowner’s beloved while off duty and without turnout gear. It all comes together despite other arson attempts yet it ends well. Loved it!
Jennifer Gilmour is the skilled voice artist who makes a good book even better.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I received a free copy for an honest review.
I have read the other in this series and this is now my favorite! Hawk, aka Nicole, I didn’t like in Protecting Peyton. In this story, I grew to love her. She is a woman in a mostly man job, she has a history she hadn’t cared to share, and ends up learning a lot about herself and others over the course of the story. She finds herself, she finds the love of a great man, and she finds the love of a pup… What more does a girl need?!
Healing Hawk by Becky Muth is Book 8 of the Gold Coast Retrievers series. This is such an emotional book that is hard to put down. You also need to keep the tissues handy. Nicole “Hawk” Hawkins is one tough female in one of the toughest jobs: firefighter. Injured and disfigured in a fire she joins with new detective Arnold “Snowball” Winters to find the perpetrator. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat as it unfolds. I love the role Chance, a golden retriever, plays in this story. A must read!
A Heartwarming, clean Romance. Quick Read and Most Enjoyable!
I just finished reading Healing Hawk (Gold Coast Retrievers Book 8) by Becky Muth and love it. I have enjoyed each and every book of the Gold Coast Retrievers series. This is a sweet and clean romance with a touch of suspense. And of course the Golden Retriever steals the show. Who would not love a sweet love story with some action and adventure and a wonderful dog? I also love that minor characters from other books become the main characters . The people and places around the small town are all known to the reader and the characters even more developed with each new book. I totally recommend Healing Hawk and the entire Gold Coast Retrievers series.
Nicole Hawkins has changed her notorious career as model to be a firefighter. But this will prove more dangerous than it seems. She gets injured in two fires and the police department is suspecting her as the arson. Can Arnold, Snowball, prove her innocent while keeping her safe and catching the perpetrator? Chance, a Labrador puppy with healthy issue will help her regain her confidence again.
I’m glad I’ve discovered these series! I can’t wait to read other stories too. Chance captured my heart; he is adorable!
“My brother Owen used to say, ‘When the past comes calling, don’t answer. It has nothing good to say and you’re not walking backwards.’”
“Life is too short to wait for Happily Ever After to arrive on your terms. It’s when you least expect it, that it happens. When I met Dr. Gustafson, I didn’t plan on falling for each other. In fact, we both had strict personal policies against dating coworkers. There’s nothing more valuable than love, though, and when you find it, you have to hold on tight with both hands and never, ever let go. No matter what.”
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.
