The New York Times bestselling story of Haj Ibrahim as he tries to lead and protect his village in the time leading up to and following the rebirth of Israel. From the moment Ibrahim is declared the Muktar of Tabah, he is forced to grapple with the growing tensions between the Arabs and the Jews in the Middle East. As fights break out and guerrilla warfare takes hold, Ibrahim’s family and … villagers are forced to flee. Separated from the other villagers, Ibrahim and his family struggle for survival as refugees amidst the raging war. Leon Uris is no stranger to writing about the birth of Palestine, but The Haj offers an Arab perspective that gives a comprehensive look at the dynamic history of the Middle East.

Very powerful read. Disturbing insight into Arab and Jewish affairs of late WWII into early 1950s. Clear picture of Arab mentality leading to better understanding of the ongoing conflict between the two peoples.
Best author of all time in my opinion.
It is primarily the history of the state of Israel. It presents Arabs as fairly lazy and stupid. There is nary a female in the whole book.
I couldn’t finish it.
I enjoy reading this author’s novels, and I found The Haj was a real page-turner, exciting, and thoroughly entertaining.
Just learn the life of middle east during the crisis
Anything by Leon Uris is an inspiring read.
Leon Uris, known as the master of weaving his fiction into historical backgrounds and events, uses the Haj to allow the reader to discover the history of, and today’s mentality of the Arabic world. Notice I didn’t say he teaches. Read it and you will understand what I mean.
Outstanding. He is so knowledgeable about Israel and their enemies.
