An excellent addition to the Nichelle Clarke crime thriller series. This book had so many twists and turns, my head is still spinning. Once I started, I could not put it down. A must-read series!
It has been a while since the last Nichelle Clarke mystery. This seventh book in the series is just as good as the others. In fact, maybe better. This time Nichelle is duped and has possibly lost her job. But she has the knack to finally figure things out in the nick of time. She helps save the President’s life along with possibly others caught in a bomb aftermath. There is always a mixture of laughter, tears, and intrigue throughout the whole plot of the story. Very well written. But what about her relationship with Joey. He’s got to go away for awhile. I’m really curious where LynDee Walker is going with this twist. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
“Finding truth in situations both ordinary and exceptional is my favorite thing about the news business. When a big story breaks, my universe narrows to the thrill of the chase. Caffeine becomes a food group, adrenaline a friend. Schedules evaporate. Sleep is for suckers who settle for second place. I love every minute of it. But that rush has taught me to appreciate the quieter days, too.”
There’s been a murder at the State Capital and Nichelle Clarke:investigative reporter, is on the case. Turns out the victim is someone Nichelle interviewed, respected and admired, and she’s going to find out how and why she was killed.
Stonewalling politicos block Nichelle’s investigation, and as her determination finds the parts unraveling and behind it are things Nichelle can’t begin to imagine.
I love Nichelle Clark and I’m so glad LynDee Walker has written another book in the series. The world has changed since Nichelle came on the scene, but our heroine is still intelligent who gets into the biggest messes, and despite the odds, gets out. Highly Recommended 5/5

“Deadly Politics” earns 5/5 Secrets & Scandals…Engaging & Nail/biting Thriller!
I decided to venture outside my “cozy” bubble with LynDee Walker’s newest crime thriller “Deadly Politics,” and WOW! was it worth it. A big fan of the efforts and perseverance of reporters on MSNBC and CNN, I found reporter Nichelle Clarke the perfect character to wade through the mire of politics and uncover the truth about a dead woman found in the governor’s office. Although Walker could have chosen a third-person narrative putting the reader on the outside looking in, she chose to put us right in the middle with Nichelle’s “I” perspective. Ok, first, a woman president? I enjoyed that should have been and might be reality, but the rest of the plot was realistic with nail-biting intrigue, secrets best secret, adult themes, not-so-cozy issues, and crimes that need to be reported, no matter the cost. I found Walker’s writing style clever and compelling with vivid descriptions that for “only-cozy” fans would find too realistic, engaging dialogue, romantic entanglements, and an ending that literally made me say, “Wow!” I am a newbie, but I was never at a disadvantage starting with book seven. What a great book! I just might be a fan of crime thrillers. No, I am sure of it…I am a crime thriller fan! Thank you, LynDee Walker.
Nichelle Clarke gets a call from Kyle Miller, who reveals something that is to be kept off the record concerning Lakshmi Drake. Nichelle knows Lakshmi, whom she had tried to warn. Nichelle went nosing on the internet into Lakshmi and noted a picture on social media, which disappeared right before her eyes.
Lakshmi’s body was found on the governor’s desk, and from social media, she was seeing his son. The more Nichelle dug, the more stone walls she hit. When Nichelle decides to release a story, she doesn’t realize the danger that is involved, which includes herself. She, also, doesn’t know who her friends are because she knows something is being kept from her. Her friends wouldn’t lie to her, would they?
Great thriller that kept me guessing!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Wow! I just finished reading, Deadly Politics, by LynDee Walker. It’s been a long wait for Nichelle’s return! The plot was gripping and the characters dynamic! I honestly was completely caught by surprise at the end!
Nichelle thinks she gets involved in a political murder but it’s so much more! As she works to uncover the real story, Kyle, Aaron, Landers, and Joey do their best to help solve the case and keep her safe. The plot twists with a dead call girl, a missing governor’s son, an unhinged ex-senator, a crooked federal agent, and a bomb. With the President visiting Richmond, the pressure is on.
Nichelle’s relationships with Joey (still romantic with secrets) and Kyle are complicated. I love the dynamics between the three. I’m personally still hoping Kyle ends up with Nichelle.
This series started my cozy addiction. Nichelle will always be one of my favorite protagonist.
The only downside is the constant misuse of the Lord’s name. I realize that’s real world but it is hard for me to read.
I was given an advance copy for an honest review.
