Amazing! The reselling od Little Red Riding Hood in a dystopian setting.
I’m always excited when I find a book I can’t put down and this book definitely qualifies. I just wish I could’ve started reading the second book right away but at least I don’t have too long to wait. You need to read this book!!!
***I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy***
What an amazing book to read! This is not your typical Red Riding book. I had my reservations at first, but once I started reading, I was immediately hooked. I can’t really compare this book to any other. So basically you have females/girls who are picked to become mates/breeders for a society called the Sworn. I really wanted more background on this but hopefully, I will learn more about this in the next book. But there is controversy about this, because they say if you are picked then you are either bullied by the town or taken care of by the Sworn. They is a lot of hate for the Sworn, and as you meet Red Rider, you will see understand her hatred. She has determination, perseverance to stay a live and not become the a mate to the Sworn. So as you read things are revealed to her that sets her in the path to the Capital. She is so determined that she has no idea of the what it who she is with u til she finally opens up and sees it. She is so shocked by what is revealed that she just closes up and doesn’t even put up a fight. It seems like she just becomes focused on her one goal and forgets about everything else. I feel like everything was just put In place. So much happened that you are wanting more. Kate Avery Ellison, I love this book and need more!!!
Set against a post-apocalyptic landscape Meredith Rider is a chosen a girl marked because she has the ability to birth werewolves. She has hidden her mark to prevent being taken to the capital but events conspire leading her to reveal her status to save someone she loves from harm.
Upon learning her mother and childhood friend are not dead like she thought Red allows herself to be transported to the capital planning to rescue them. Her Jailor The Silver Wolf is one of the sworn an elite band of werewolf soldiers who police the land. Upon their journey, their carriage is attacked by tree crawlers leaving Red and Vixor stranded together. They must now work as a team if they have any hope of surviving the coming ordeal.
This felt quite simplistic and the characters felt somewhat one-dimensional. There wasn’t a great deal of backstory either. It did have an interesting premise and the writing itself seemed fine but I couldn’t quite connect to the characters themselves. It did feel quite slow and not much happened to further the story along. Vixor didn’t seem that bad in fact he felt rather bland and Red seemed quite self-righteous proven by her reaction when the twist occurred which by the way I definitely saw coming. I also didn’t really feel any chemistry between Red and Vixor though I did like that this wasn’t instalust either.
This is the first book in a series so there’s still a lot more to come. I won’t be continuing on as I’m just not that invested. This for me was just ok and I did find myself skimming as I was a bit bored and just wasn’t feeling it. This was told from Red’s Perspective and is first-person POV. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Red Rider.

This book was not what I was expecting. I started reading it and could not put it down. I loved the world building. Treecrawlers are the stuff of nightmares. Then there are the thorn trees to deal with as well. Werewolves have taken over the planet and female werewolves are barren. Hence, the need for those chosen who can bear the young of werewolves.
Red is a chosen and I love her character. She is strong, opinionated, loyal and fearless. Vixor is werewolf royalty. He is a great character. I love him!
This story has a lot of emotions wrapped up in it. There may be some triggers in there for people who are squeamish about beatings. But, one thing I really liked about it was that the author did not use graphic adult scenes to build the story. There is attraction, but nothing graphic.
This was an excellent story and I loved it. I would highly recommend the story and can’t wait to read the next one.
A new to me author.
Red Rider is book one in Kate Avery Ellison’s The Sworn Saga. If you like fairytale retellings then this is a must read. You think you know the tale about Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf, well think again, this book is going to have you questioning everything.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it had a very addictive, curious, interesting, and exciting vibe that had me glued from the beginning. It was fast paced with so much happening that I was anxiously anticipating what was going to happen next. I loved Red and Vixor’s characters they were strong, independent and fantastic. I can’t wait to see what happiness the next book.
Meredith Rider is a ‘Chosen’ a human female chosen to breed with The Sworn (Werewolves) to produce the next generation of Werewolf children. She has hidden the fact she is a ‘Chosen’ from everyone except her Grandmother. After loosing her family to ‘The Sworn’ she had spent the last nine years avoiding them, and training with her Grandmother to protect herself. She hates The Sworn and wants nothing to do with them, but when someone she loves is due to die she must sacrifice herself and let her secret known to save them. Now in the hands of the Silver Wolf the right hand to the Alpha, she must take the journey to the palace where she will be paired off to a Werewolf to breed, but first she needs to make the journey there, but the Treecrawlers ain’t going to make it easy.
pretty good story. wasnt necessarily looking for a series. not sure i’m going to read any more. seems like several stories i’ve read before.
I read it in a weekend. I could not put it down. The story is easy to follow. I did not have to go back to remember the order of things or who was who, such as books with too many characters and story line to keep track of. I like and read books like that, but this was more relaxing to read and still exciting. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
