Loved this book. The characters were believable and the heroes trauma was heartbreaking. And that hot cover! *sigh* Awesome! Loved the conclusion and plan to purchase this book for my own.
If you like broken heroes and love that heals, check out this book! I highly recommend it!
Jessica Ruben is a new to me author and I don’t know what I was expecting from Warrior Undone but I got so much more than I bargained for. This book! I never expected Slade to break my heart like he did. I adore a troubled tortured character and there’s few more troubled than Slade. For all his problems, he is extremely easy to like and I think that’s made easier by the fact he is genuinely a nice guy who’s had a rough ride of it who’s not been making the best decisions. That’s not to say that he didn’t annoy me. Cos he did, BIG time. Lauren is another fantastic character. She’s well aware of her faults, she’s not perfect but she’s got this spark about her that draws you in.
I wasn’t expecting the depth of character or the story. It grabs ahold and doesn’t let go. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’ll definitely be checking out her other books.
5 stars! Actually this was an amazing book!! I wasn’t expecting anything else after reading Eve’s and Vincent tale!! It’s a story that struggles with very emotional and important matters such as PSTD, drugs and death!! For me it was emotional, beautiful, breathtaking read !! Surely it was a remarkable story and I totally recommend it!
Whoa. That was way more than I ever expected out of this book!
Slade is an ex Navy SEAL who is struggling to keep his head above water some days. He runs a security company that he and some buddies from the military started. They do the security for The Mile which is a casino Vincent built.
Lauren lives in LA and works as a legal secretary. She is living the mundane day to day wishing she could find love with a man who doesn’t just want her as his arm candy. All of her friends are marrying for money not love and Lauren feels like she doesn’t belong.
Her and Slade have this instant all consuming chemistry you can’t help but envy just slightly. They are so sweet and electric. Watching the two of them, I was awestruck. I loved it. Until things started to change. I was so distraught over the change of events happening throughout this book and the twists these two dealt with. I wanted to cry, scream, and punch somebody all at once. I’ve never felt emotions like I did with this book. It really made me think, how many others go through this and think they are strong enough to overcome it only to realize they aren’t?
I worried so much I felt as if they were real people going through it and not just characters. I felt as if it were a personal friend of mine and I just wanted to be there for them.
I was amazed at all the different plot twists. They were very unexpected and made the book that much better. This is one of those books that you can’t wait to read again! I wonder how many other signs I missed before everything was exposed?
Jessica Ruben what have you done to me? This is everything I could’ve ever wanted out of a book plus more I didn’t even know I needed! You deserve all the stars in the galaxy for this one, but I guess I have to settle with only 5. Very well written. The dialogue and the pace of the book were perfection! This is one that I will suggest to any and everybody that asks for a book recommendation!
Warrior Undone.
Phenomenal story of two people that were destined to find strength with each other and more importantly their inner strength. I had a hard time putting the book down.
Slade a retired Navy Seal that has severe PTSD. Lauren is struggling with her own trauma and what direction she wants to go career wise. They decided to have some fun with each other. What they don’t plan is how just a little fun turns into real feelings. I was completely pulled into these two. I adore the banter. The heat and chemistry between them flew off the page.
The subject matter is not an easy one to write about. I believe the author wrote it with sensitivity and truthfulness. I found myself really rooting for Slade and Lauren. I felt where the story took each of them when it came to the help Slade need was realistic.
Jessica Ruben has become a new one-click author for me!
Jessica Ruben has quickly become a 1-click author for me. I absolutely loved her Vincent and Eve series and completely devoured them. Warrior Undone is a spin off from this series but can be read as a standalone and completely enjoyed on its own. I devoured this one as well and loved it!
Slade McCormack is a man haunted by his inner demons. He suffers from PTSD and nightmares from his time in the military. Now trying to return to the world outside the military, he is now the head of security for Milestone, a new casino and hotel in Vegas run by his friend, Vincent. Through Slade was a strong and fierce man, he was also a broken man. My heart just broke for him.
We met Laure in Redemption as Eve’s friend. When Lauren first met Slade, the sparks fly, but then reality set back in. When they meet again, their chemistry and connection is still here. I loved Lauren, she was the opposite of Slade and what I think he needed. She was fun, caring and cheerful.
I love Jessica Ruben’s writing and characters. Her stories are driven by her characters and their journey and I find myself completely immersing myself in them. Warrior Undone was both a touching and heartbreaking story. The characters struggle through so much, but we can’t help but cheer them on every step of the way.
4.5-stars. Loved it! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
This book is about a beautiful, deeply broken veteran who falls in love with a woman that helps him find a way to fight his demons. They are absolutely heartrendingly beautiful together and I went through a gauntlet of emotions as I read this book!
Jessica Ruben has done it, yet AGAIN! This time, she portrays what feels like the INSANELY realistic emotions and effects of PTSD….and OMGAWD, what an INCREDIBLE journey it is! My heart is ALLLLLLL kinds of twisted and torn! But it was sooooooo worth every single tear, rant and rave (and heart-felt sigh!) I experienced throughout this gut-wrenchingly REAL story.
My emotions went on an INTENSE roller coaster ride from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, all the while praying that Slade and Lauren would come through it all with their love intact. I have to say that, at times, I wanted to slap BOTH of them for different reasons….Slade, because I wanted him to wake up and get the help he so desperately needed and deserved (even though he didn’t want to verbalize the horrific events that he continues to have nightmares about, every single day!) and Lauren, because even though her heart was in the right place, I wanted her to get as far away from Slade as she could just as fast as she could (at the same time, I wanted her to be his savior…knowing that THAT was not possible!) I was COMPLETELY hooked by ALL the feels and I simply couldn’t get enough!
After the AMAZING, INCREDIBLY well-written Vincent & Eve trilogy, Ms Ruben has DEFINITELY overcome the sophomore jinx with Warrior Undone!!! She is becoming, in my eyes, a POWERHOUSE in the indie community with this INTOXICATING, INTENSELY emotional must read!!!
Jessica had wooed me with ‘Vincent and Eve’ trilogy. I was excited to hear more stories. ‘Warrior Undone’ was Slade and Lauren journey together. It was slow at the beginning. The story was captivating and honest.
Slade stories with his struggle was difficult to read.. This wasnt your average romance couple.. Every story is different and Slade-Laurel journey was special.
A lot of potential.
I guess it just wasn’t for me.
Slade and Lauren’s story showed some serious stuff and it was very interesting to read. The story was well written and, as I said, it had a lot of potential.
But I couldn’t connect with the main characters. It was hard to accept or justify their actions, and I don’t think Slade’s condition was all to blame, because even after he started seeking help, he made things here and there that made me cringe a little.
I was more interested in Vincent and Eve than in Slade and Lauren. And for that, I want to read this author again and give it a go on their series. I really like those two.
Heading out to a club, with the team needing to let of some steam, Slade can’t believe he sees Lauren, the last time they had one night at Vincent and Eve’s Wedding, but she wanted long term and with is PTSD he won’t have anyone that close.
Lauren can’t believe Slade is at the same club, after a few drinks they decide but it turns to chaos. Arriving at the hotel they get clean and head to bed, when Lauren wakes in the morning to Slade asleep o the floor she sneaks out.
Seeing Lauren again he knows she’s come to see Eve because she’s not coping, the chemistry is there as always, but she takes it the wrong way when he won’t take her home, she’s trusting, but he knows he’ll hurt her, it’s the only way.
Both needing to work things out Vincent and Eve decided they need to join them while they have a few days away, only problem when they get to the hotel there’s only one room and Slade and Lauren have to share.
Having dinner doesn’t work well with Slade assuring Lauren they can never be, he doesn’t want to piss off Vincent and she needs to back off. Lauren reminds him of what he will never have, he knows she would never be able to eradicate what he went through.
Lauren wants Slade and she would stay for him, but he she needs someone who can love her back, Slade’s PTSD won’t let him allow anyone close, but their chemistry can’t be denied, he doesn’t want to get help but does he want Lauren enough to get help.
