I’ll admit it. I messed up. Mistake #1: Asking Peter Barnidge for a job.Mistake #2: Accepting his offer instead of throwing it in his face like I planned.Mistake #3: In the interest of stopping before #99, I’ll pretend the only other mistake was withholding one, tiny little nugget of truth during my interview. Peter Barnidge… Where do I even start? How about that after my first day working for … after my first day working for Mr. Superstar International Bestselling Author, his name became my favorite kid-friendly cursing substitute. Stub a toe? Peter Barnidge it! Bank account is overdrawn? Son of a Barnidge! And when I realized I was falling for my boss? Well, what the Barnidge?
I wish it was easier to just plain hate him, instead of the twisted, confusing blend of hatred and attraction I feel. But he’s the bad kind of attractive. Dark with a side of smoldering heat. The kind of hot that makes me want to do that Catholic cross thing every time I look at him, because one glance takes my brain straight to a world of sin.
Speaking of sin… I also lied a little during my interview. But I’m a single mom and I’d do anything to provide for my daughter, even if it meant keeping one tiny little secret. Unfortunately, even small secrets have a way of growing over time.
I think it’s only a matter of time before he finds out, and somehow, I don’t think he’s going to be happy when he does.

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series so far and was happy to see some of the characters make guest appearances in this story.
Peter is ice cold and arrogant when he first met Violet. He’s famous, handsome, and rich. She’s a single mom, talented, and just scraping by.
Their relationship is caustic, combative, snarky and sometimes nasty, but underneath it all simmers a mutual attraction they both try to deny.
Over half of the book has Peter dealing with his pain and scars from his ex Kristen. His boneheaded decisions with her has tainted the past two years since she swindled him out of his first fiction creation.
With Violet in his life, Peter started to trust again. Violet was as sweet and smart as Kristen was mean and nasty.
I loved the way Peter gets his closure with Kristen with the help of Violet. Little Zoey added to the humor and sweetness to this story.
No cheating, a bit of drama with the nasty Kristen, but Violet held her own and got the man at the end!

4 1/2 stars- I liked this almost as good as I loved the others in this series. There is humor and banter between Violet and Peter, the secret is Zoey her daughter who is adorable that she hid to get the job. Then there’s romance between them plus Lilith and Liam make a appearance that made this a enjoyable to read. Overall it’s a feel good romance that made me chuckle and swoon with a touch of drama. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.
I loved this book about a spunky women who knows how to get what she wants. The story drew me in from the very first paragraph. I loved how Violet always thought about her daughter first. I liked her little girl a lot, she is funny and very cute. I thought I would not like Peter but, after learning what he went through with his previous girlfriend I understood a little more. I really enjoy all of the books written by Penelope Bloom. They are fun and just what a person needs to escape everyday life. I look forward to reading more from this writer.

one tiny lie that will come back and bite her. Peter is a condescending piece of work that hires her. He is attracted to Violet tries to push her away because of a past betrayal. This story has so much drama that will have you laughing and cheering for this couple not to mention the supporting characters that really rounds out this story. You won’t be able to put this one down.

Peter and Violet were polar opposites. Peter had been severely hurt by a previous relationship and was morose, irritable, and sarcastic. He trusted no one especially women. Violet also had problems with a previous relationship leaving her shy but persistent. All of the characters are are vivid and have well chosen personalities, especially Grammy and Zoey. Excellent read!

This book is really enjoyable to read, I love the fact that it’s funny at times even with a hot guy who is trying to act like a jerk on purpose. The chemistry and interactions between the 2 main characters can be hot and can be fun. This is a wonderful read for anyone who wants some humor with their romance. As with the rest of this series, another fantastic read. I loved the sassy, snarky, klutzy heroine Violet. Her character was the perfect foil to Peter with his cocky, bullheaded, obnoxious attitude. Zoey was just too precocious! Highly recommend.

The New York book convention was her way to approach authors and sell herself.
But instead she met him. He was so abrasive, severe and insensitive. Not a good day.
He hated the conventions and then he met her, how dare she approach him in his own space!
How dare she get the world and their Aunt filling his inbox with demands that he hire her.
One meeting would be the end, or would it be the start?
I really enjoyed this book, and loved the quirky characters from the previous books popping up left right and centre.
Peter was hard to love at the start but once you began to see the real him it was hard not to feel for him.
He’s both hard, and soft. Harsh but caring, considerate and brash. A very complex character burnt in his past.
Violet is a beautiful character. Such a fighter who does her best with what she has for her daughter.
Two characters who live in completely different worlds come together to create a new one..
An all round good evening read. There’s love and hate, drama and passion and can’t leave out down right craziness from William and Grammy!
What’s not to love!! Can’t wait to see who gets the spotlight next!
She needs a job marketing a best selling author because she has a daughter to support. At a convention she meets said author, Peter Barnidge, and he’s…well, he’s a jerk. He’s also tall, dark, muscular and hot enough she can’t get him out of her mind. Determined to show him he was mistaken about her, she finagles an interview. During the interview she lies about having kids because of a comment he made that people with families wouldn’t have time for his job.
It’s just a little secret. Right?
Peter’s last girlfried screwed him over big time. Due to that his personality has undergone a big change in the last two years. He’s bitter, he’s mean, and everyone knows it. So why is he so drawn to his new hire? He can’t keep his eyes off of her and doesn’t want any other man to look at her. But while he’s growling and griping, he’s also looking out for her to make sure she’s okay. She finds that he’s not the meanie he portrays to the rest of his staff.
I loved this book. Her characters are so intriguing and unique they draw me in to the story. I only know of one other author who does dialogue as well as Penelope and that’s Penny Reid. If you like witty dialoque with unusual characters than this book is going to wow your socks off!
What a amazing read that is a delightful read that will have you laughing and loving this story. What a amazing read. I so love reading books by this author.
One Can Never Have to Much Lilith 🙂
Her Secret is another love story from the wonderful, witty, clever writing style of Penelope Bloom. Hardly a chapter has ended that I am not laughing from some dialogue or thought this author has given her characters.
In this storyline of this wonderful series, popular series regulars are brought back to add continuity and color. I was especially delighted to see the demented duo of Lilith – who is perhaps a secret serial killer, and Grammy – who has taken to dog walking to earn some extra cash for beer and condoms.
But it’s our main characters, Violet and Peter who bring on the charm and heat. Their over the top pithy come backs are directed at each other in their shared office (did I mention Peter is a hoarder), on a bus, hiking down the highway, tennis court, etc.
We know they are going to get together but it’s their journey that makes it so fun on how they are going to get to the big HEA. And what makes is story unique is Zoey, Violet’s five year old daughter who loves collecting book markers and tennis passionately. I also love the demise of the villain who has done Peter wrong…nuff said there.
I definitely am recommending this book as a sure winner in not only the Romcom genre but just a great feel good book to read especially if you want to to finish the epilogue with a smile.
I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace.
I loved the banter between Peter and Violet. Violet is a strong woman and doesn’t let anyone treat her poorly. Peter hates everyone. Due to a bad relationship, he doesn’t let anyone close to him, and he does this by being a grouch. This book was funny and I loved watching Peter being mean but then saying or doing something that was out of character and shocking himself and Violet. Great read!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
This is another delightful, laugh-out-loud, steam up your glasses, melt your heart romance in this lighthearted series. This can totally be read as a standalone but characters due reappear throughout the Objects of Attraction series. So, in my opinion you will have a more enjoyable reading experience if you are familiar with all the character and their stories, but ultimately that’s up to you. This book features Violet and Peter’s story. Violet, I felt, was a easy to love character. Determined, motivated, a devoted mom and a bit acerbic. She was doing her best to take care of her kid and working hard to be a success. Peter, initially starts off as kind of a jerk. He’s demanding, uptight, condescending and so rude. As you learn more about his past and get a good look at the guy underneath it all, he grows on you. Both these characters have been burned before and they work hard to resist that pesky attraction that simply will not go away. Toss in some drama, secrets and snappy dialog and you have a great book. If you want a read that is sure to leave you with a smile, you’ll want to grab a copy of this book.
Peter may have become my new favorite!! He’s friends with Bruce but can’t stand William. He may be as OCD as Bruce but a little more flexible to change. And he has that washboard stomach you just wanna examine close up…with your tongue. And he meets Violet. Stubborn. determined. sarcastic, optimistic, and gorgeous. First run in fires her up against him. And on the next encounter, forced by some manipulation with Lillian and her hubby, Liam, to get him to offer her a job handling his marketing, she initially wants to reject him on principle. He’s stuffy, rude, and angry, but his lust fogs his brain and makes him offer her A LOT of money to work for him, so she lies about having a daughter and takes the job. Which leads to crazy situations and opens them both up to the HEA they’re headed towards. This book has the crazy cast and antics you have come to love from these books and passion and the most adorable little girl, Zoey.
