So much emotional strife in such a short time. This lady will steal your heart. 5 star must read.
This prequel helps us to understand Maggie’s sense of righteous anger a bit better. We’re also provided a lens into who she became after losing/leaving Hank. The two prequels prepare us with key insights to begin the first of the Maggie novels. She’s no shrinking violet, this one!
This book picks up some time after Buckle Bunny ends. Maggie is now a well known performer and she is still beautiful, but she’s following a destructive lifestyle. She lands an on-air live interview with a shock jock who isn’t what he seems. Is Maggie about to self destruct? Another well written and interesting book in the series.
He should have known better…
The guy’s a jerk and deserves what Maggie doles out. This is her biggest interview yet with the hottest radio DJ on the east coast. However, even with the alcoholic refreshments she is not in the least receptive to his “white board” innuendos. As we learned in the first book one shouldn’t “mess” with Maggie. I LOVED her reaction and was cheering her on. Now it’s time to read the third book in this terrific series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A real spike of Maggie that will whet your appetite for what is coming. Maggie is on a path that could see her self destruct. Can she be saved?
Dj’s can launch your career with air time and name recognition. Sometimes what they want for payment is more than it’s worth.
Shock Jock is the prequel to the Maggie trilogy by Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
In Shock Jock, we learn who is Maggie and what she is all about. Maggie is a singer-songwriter and left home at 17 with her GED and a hand me down Martin guitar. She signed with a label who wanted her to change her style of music; she calls Texana to a more current sound. She doesn’t allow anyone to tell her what her should sound be.
Six years later she is booked to appear on Aaron Cryor’s radio show. He is the hottest radio disk jockey on the East Coast. This interview is the biggest she has ever done and needs it to go well so she will have her songs on the radio and increase her fan base.
As she is waiting for the interview, they provide her with refreshments of her choice. Her choice is coke and Jack Daniels and cocaine. Maggie has a reputation for living fast and loose.
Maggie enters the room for the biggest interview of her life. She takes a look and decides Aaron Cryor looks harmless, in her eyes “like a church deacon.” Looks can be deceiving though. During the interview, Cryor uses a whiteboard to jot down notes and cues for her. What he writes is crude and sexually explicit, She has been sexually harassed and used her whole career, but not by “a grown-up alter boy on a live broadcast.”
The ensuing interactions with the disk jockey let us see the strength of her character and the spit-fire we will see in Maggie Killian in the trilogy that follows. Don’t miss Shock Jock to be introduced to this fiery young woman!
In Shock Jock, a prequel to the Maggie series in the What doesn’t kill you series Pamela Fagan Hutchins introduces the reader to Maggie- a spitfire singer ready to set the world on fire with her brand of Texana music. Maggie joins DJ Aaron Cryor on Commuter Zoo Radio show to nurture interest in new album Buckle Bunny.
Watch Maggie face off Cryor on his showcase radio show after an hour of off-mike innuendos via a white board. You will cheer her on- already entranced with her infectious spirit and sass.
With her unrivaled character development Hutchins assembles the groundwork for Live Wire- Maggie #1. Shock Jock triumphs in endearing the reader to Maggie’s story.
