‘She lifted the flap of the envelope and pulled out the single white page. As she opened it up she stared, open mouthed. Four words were typed on the page. I am watching you.’When Amy Whyte and Penny Brogan leave a local nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning and don’t arrive home, their families are beside themselves with worry. Conor Dowling has just been released from prison, a man … released from prison, a man full of hatred for Amy, the girl who put him behind bars in the first place.
The case is given to Detective Lottie Parker, when the girls’ blood-soaked bodies are found, days later, in a derelict squat. Chillingly, both girls are clutching silver coins in their hands – what message is this killer leaving behind? All the signs point to Conor but his alibi is water tight.
As Lottie examines Penny and Amy’s final days alive in a desperate search for clues, two more girls are found stabbed to death in a luxury apartment complex. Caught up in what is fast becoming her toughest case yet, Lottie is unaware that somebody is watching her every move.
Then Lottie’s two daughters, Katie and Chloe suddenly disappear from the town centre. Terrified that the killer has her girls, the stakes have never been higher for Lottie.
But as Lottie puts everything on the line to find her daughters and solve the case, she’s about to find herself in terrible danger – someone has a personal axe to grind with her and they know the best way to get to her is to hurt the ones she loves the most.

This book finds Lottie and her crew putting down roots in their own place, again, and rebuilding the shell that was the hull of their shattered lives. Lottie actually seems to be “getting it together” and trying to finally move on with her life. But, not to fear, there will still be the bouts of personal and professional chaos we have come to love and expect, as Lottie races to find a killer and rescue her two, missing daughters, before it is too late.
Lottie has to be my favorite, female detective, and this series is definitely one of my all-time favorites. I am SO excited that it will continue with another book! I don’t think I ever want to see this series end!

Final Betrayal by Patricia Gibney
D.I. Lottie Parker #6
Lottie has moved out of her mother’s home into a new abode. She seems happier now that the past has literally been burned up and tangible memories of her past with a spouse now deceased five years all ashes. She has a relationship with a colleague that provides a bit of fun outside work and being a mother and grandmother and she seems to be moving forward with her life. And yet…she still seems a bit at loose ends and unable to commit to much outside the her job on the police force and being a so-so mother.
This story has:
* a relative from the USA that is still hanging about
* a new case to be solved
* one suspect that is perhaps a patsy
* past case threads that might be woven through
* bad guys to catch
* a murderer or two
* and more
I have to say this book did not hold my interest quite as much as the previous two in the series I have read and I am not sure exactly why. Here are a few things I wrote down as I read:
* too many characters and threads
* too busy
* unbelievable that a person in maximum security would be let out on a day pass
* is it likely that Lottie’s family can be at risk in every story she is in?
* is there really only one viable suspect?
* why is Lottie unable to express her feelings?
* some of the “feelings” and reactions seemed a bit over the top
* would the boss truly act as Lottie’s did?
I am not sure if there will be more in the series but will say I might try one more book if there is. I feel that Lottie has potential and like the addition made to the team. I feel there is potential if the next book is one that does not involve her family as potential victims and if she makes progress on a personal level.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Lottie Parker is one of my favorite book detectives and I always can’t wait for the next book. My hopes for this book were high and as usual I was not disappointed. When young women starts disappearing in pairs, Lottie and her team take on the case. There isn’t much to go on and time is running out. Then Lottie’s own daughters’ lives are in danger. At the same time, Lottie’s sister has escaped and wants to get her hands on Lottie for revenge. Things are getting out of hands and Lottie is finding herself out of possibilities.
Well I am now a fan of Lottie Parker !! This is my first book in the series but I am off to buy the rest !
Final Betrayal is a page turning, twists and turns book.
So many dead bodies.
I can tell you that if I am missing or in trouble , it’s Lottie Parker and her team of detectives I want on my side.
The other side of Lottie is her family. What can Lottie do to protect her children? Love that family.
Don’t worry if you have not read any of the other books, the author makes it an easy transition to follow. Can’t wait to read more of Lottie’s exploits.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read Final Betrayal .
