I first noticed him in Lover’s Landing coffee house simply because he was a hot guy wearing a cowboy hat. But then… as I came back each morning for coffee, I started to notice he did the exact same routine, at the exact same time, every single day. I’ve determined from the coffee-to-go he orders, that his name is Holden. The other patrons, who are all locals of Love, Georgia, seem to know and … understand whatever it is Holden does each morning. They leave him alone to his routine, and his table. Every single day.
Until this day. This Valentine’s Day that I decide to sit at his table and see where the fireworks go. And yes, he’s annoyed… but eventually he sits with me at his special table, because for some reason it’s that important to him. I know there are reasons behind the routine. This precise ritual. What or why, I have no idea, but finding out—now—seems like just the thing to do while I’m in Love.
Little do I expect, the journey into the why behind Holden’s routine also starts to become the why behind how deeply I start to care for him, and why I don’t want to leave Love. But the why is also the greatest obstacle to there ever being more than just morning coffee for us.

I’m not sure if I have the proper or even expressive enough words to describe this heartbreaking, breathtaking book. It’s part of the Lover’s Landing series, written by 8 different authors, but the books have, until now, followed a specific route. People meet at the cafe, share the ‘magical’ cups of coffee, and it’s off to the races, with insta-love or lust, or emotional breakthroughs. Here, with Leanne Davis’s book in the series, you find a broken man, Holden Thatcher, who repeats the same day over and over, wracked with guilt, and just trying to get through his life without further misery. Along comes newcomer Alicia Anderson, a beautiful and witty corporate lawyer on business from Seattle. She becomes ‘obsessed’ by Holden’s nearly OCD behavior and decides to get involved, if only to get the man some help! What follows is absolutely beautiful, heartbreaking, and amazing. Holden begins to feel again, after living a half-life for the past year, and Alicia learns what it truly is to care for someone who feels unworthy, yet deserves more than even she can understand. I loved this book!! I read an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is my 3rd book in this series so far and my first book by this author and it wont be my last. This one will pull at your heart strings. This is Holden and Alicia’s Story.
Alicia is a lawyer for a water park, they are wanting to build a water park on one of the farm lands they recently purchased, while Alicia is looking over her papers she is at Lover’s landing enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee when she see’s this cowboy come in, he buys two coffee’s and sits at a table. He just sits there, does not talk to anyone, does not drink either coffee’s he buy’s and ten minutes later he just gets up throws those coffee’s away and leaves.
Holden was is deep depression after the death of his wife Harper. He blamed himself for her death.
Another five star read in this Lover’s Landing series. I received an advance copy of this book. I am voluntarily giving my honest review, and I plan to buy this book when it becomes available.
A quick, sweet, slightly angsty read. Alicia helps bring Holden out of his guilt ridden depressed life where he merely exists. She is everything he doesn’t know he needs! Great read!
Alicia a lawyer, who comes to the small town of Love, Georgia for work. Her company has plans to build a waterpark and she is working to get everything approved with the town government.
One morning she goes to the town coffee shop, Love’s Landing, to have a coffee and get some work done. While she’s there a handsome cowboy comes in. She is perplexed when she sees what she soon comes to realize is his morning routine. She is troubled by what she sees so soon she tries to change his routine up. At first, it doesn’t go well. Holden, the broken cowboy, can’t come to grips with his routine being interrupted. But as time goes on, Alicia begins to crack the walls Holden has built up. But what will happen when Alicia’s job is done? Will Holden go back to his routine?
This is a sweet love story of two people finding what they didn’t even know they needed. Leanne Davis is a wonderful writer. I’ve just recently started reading her books but they are so good that I quicky devoured them all.
Quick and easy read. Not much depth to the story but it is a novella so that’s to be expected. A nice way to spend a few hours.
I wasn’t really sure what to think of Alicia. She seemed like a overly confident lawyer wanting to mess with a man that didn’t seem to be in the right headspace. But maybe that is what Holden needed to break him from his funk. She pushed, but listened and gave him a distraction. She was different, but liked Holden for himself.
Holden Thatcher loses his wife, the true love of his life. He feels guilty and feels that it’s his fault all because he forgot to meet her where they did this day every year ever since they met. How can he overcome this and go on. He feels that he can’t go on until a Lawyer by the name of Alicia is persistent to meet him after she sees him. She wants to know why he is so sad and what is the reason behind it. Good thing she came to town. This story was well written about finding love in Love.
This was an emotional story! The way that Holden and Alicia meet was different from most. Alicia sat at his table in the coffee shop and tried to talk to him. There is a difficult situation for them to get through but it was so worth reading. My only complaint was that I wanted more! I wanted to see what happened down the road.
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
Holden, Harper, and …… Alicia. This story is full of heartbreak. Holden and Harper’s story ended all to soon and tragically at that. Alicia is captivated by Holden’s routine without knowing what’s up. Can she bring him back from his grief?
At The Next Table is actually two stories all in one novella. It is the stories of Harper and Holden as well as Alicia and Holden. Let me go ahead and warn you…have the tissues close when you read this novella. Holden is a man reliving a nightmare every single day. It’s like Groundhog’s Day or Fifty First Dates. He’s trying to have fifty anniversary coffees. Except he’s all alone or he thinks he is. Holden’s purpose in life ended one year ago with the tragic death of his wife, Harper. It was Valentine’s Day and Holden forgot to meet Harper at Lover’s Landing. She called him mad and they were on the phone when she was hit by a drunk driver. Now, he just exists. Alicia is in town for business and always starts her morning at Lover’s Landing. She’s been there for two weeks watching Holden and his unusual morning routine. He arrives at 7:35, scrapes his boots on the scraper before coming in, speaks to Betty, picks up two coffees with the names Holden and Harper on them, sits down at the exact table for about 10 minutes, then gets up, throws the coffees away, and leaves. He does not notice any of the sounds, people, or activity around him not even the 6 foot tall red head who is fascinated by him. Alicia decides that Holden needs a friend, someone to break him out of the routine. On Valentine’s Day, the one year anniversary of Harper’s death, Holden finds Alicia seated in Harper’s seat. That is all that I’m going to tell you. I fell in love with all of the characters and believe me when I say that Harper is a major character just like Holden and Alicia. This is my favorite novella of the series! I give At The Next Table by Leanne Davis 5 out of 5 propellers!!
This is the first book I have read by Leanne. She gained a fan with this book. It was gripping heart wrenching just amazing from beginning to end. Holden lost someone that he will never forget. Every day he replays what should have happened the day that he lost this person. Until a feisty lawyer visiting Love, Georgia changes things on him. Will it help him or will it cause more harm? His story was heart wrenching. I wanted to climb into the book and hug him. Holden is an amazing character. I absolutely love him and Alicia together once they get past everything. Such a great couple once Holden gets past the past. Leanne did an amazing job with this one. She gained a fan I cant wait to read more from her. This is my favorite from this series. Makes a wonderful additional to this series.
At the Next Table follows Holden and Alicia. Alicia is in the town of Love acting as a lawyer for a new waterpark. It’s here she sees Holden every morning at a local coffee shop, buying 2 drinks, sitting at the same table on his own and leaving at the same time, never having his drink. This peaks Alicia’s curiosity until one morning she sits at Holden’s table. This book follows the tragic tale of Holden’s wife being killed by a drunk driver outside the coffee shop where they met. He blames himself as he was supposed to meet her that morning. Your heart goes out to Holden who has completely lost his way until Alicia pushes him.
He was a cowboy, boots, hat the whole shebang wrapped in a nice package, except something was wrong. Each day she watched him come into the coffee shop alone, sit down with 2 coffees and leave. She had to know what the deal was. This story of love and loss, tragedy and recovery touches even the coldest of heart. It’s a novella so we don’t have a ton of time to catch up on all the details but it’s a great read and my first of these novella’s all about the little quaint small town of Lover’s Landing. This is my first read by this author and while it’s fun and flirty it’s also sweet and spicy. Well done
Leanne Davis again creates characters to care about in this Lover’s Landing novella. Alicia, Holden, and Harper capture (and keep) the reader’s interest and heart. Beautiful story!
At the Next Table by Leanne Davies is part of the Lover’s Landing Novella series. This one will pull at your heart strings, make sure you have something close by to wipe your nose on, Don’t use your husband like I did. This story is really good, wished it was a lot longer, I want to know more about Alicia and Holden!!
Alicia is a lawyer for a water park, they are wanting to build a water park on one of the farm lands they recently purchased, while Alicia is looking over her papers she is at Lover’s landing enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee when she see’s this cowboy come in, he buys 2 coffee’s and sits at a table. This Cowboy just sits there, does not talk to anyone, does not drink either coffee’s he buy’s and 10 minutes later he just gets up throws those coffee’s away and leaves.
This cowboy is Holden, Alicia finds him very interesting and starts watching him every morning, until one day -Valentines day- she decides to sit at the very table he is always sitting at.
What happens when Holden comes in to Lover’s Landing and see Alicia sitting at his table? You will need to read the book to find out!!
Leanne Davis wrote an excellent novella. I LOVED this short story. It was well written with a wonderful storyline. I was so invested in Holden and Alicia. My heart was hurting for them. I did not want their world to end.
It is not like any romance I have ever read with a very unique storyline. I really enjoyed this book. Holden was is deep depression after the death of his wife Harper. He blamed himself for her death. Alicia was in Love, Georgia on a job. She was a lawyer in town to establish a water park, something most of the town did not want. They met at Lover’s Landing, a local coffee shop. He went there every day to feel closer to his wife Harper. Alicia knew nothing about his life but sensed he needed her. I strongly urge you to read At the Next Table by Leanne Davis. To quote the author, “It is haunting and beautiful”.
I received an ARC of this book. I totally enjoyed reading about Alicia and Holden. Holden’s last relationship ended in tragedy and he had went into like a stupor. He blamed himself for his wife’s death and tried to relive the moment of what might have happened if he had shown up on Valentine’s day to Lover’s Landing coffee house. Alicia who notices him there every morning with the same routine, same time, buying two coffee’s and leaving same time. She finds it like OCD. On Valentine’s Day she decides to sit in the chair across from where he sits and decides to figure out why Holden is doing this everyday. Holden gets upset with her but Alicia does not back down from him. She feels the need to help him. By this time, you are hoping that the two of them will fall in love. Will Holden be able to get through the death of his wife and move on or will he always be stuck believing he got his wife killed. A great book with a great ending that I didn’t see coming. Thanks Leanne. Another 5 star read in this Lover’s Landing series.
