One day away from living on the streets, former pro football player Jake Hudgins has sunk to an all-time low. When he’s offered a job in a fledgling program to transition athletes at the end of their playing careers, he jumps on it, even though the offer was made to the financially sound man he once was, not the broke one he is now. Taxed with being a good example for young athletes, Jake is a … fraud, and his coworker is suspicious.
Aggie Hermann has come to terms with never being a size six or even a size twelve. She’s made peace with her body and avoids men who see women as objects instead of looking deeper. Her new coworker, Jake, appears to be the superficial variety, and he has a secret. Aggie’s certain of that, even as she struggles with the irresistible attraction between them.
Working closely together to get the job done ignites Jake and Aggie’s passion until the resulting fire is sure to burn them both. Can their love survive the fallout when Jake’s secret is revealed, or will it be reduced to ashes?
This book was originally published in Kindle Worlds as Daring to Win.

5 star Review Fumble Recovery : Game On In Seattle (Seattle Steelheads #4) by Jami Davenport
This was a really quick novella, but wow Jami Davenport managed to pack a fair bit into it despite the length of the bo0k.
I absolutely loved Jake Hudgins and Agatha “Aggie” Hermann, two people hurt by their pasts yet equally determined to rise from the ashes and move on.
From the start of Fumble Recovery, I wanted these two to get together and remain that way. However lies told, even by omission can pollute and destroy a relationship before it can become established.
When the truth is finally revealed will Aggie be able to overcome the betrayal by Jake and move forward in their relationship or has Jake destroyed the one relationship he values the most? Will Jake hang on to the job that he has now come to realize means so much to him or will he be back where he started from, rock bottom?

I have never been disappointed in a book I’ve read from this author. I loved this book. It was very different from most stories where the guy is always some hot shot athlete(not that it’s a bad thing). This stuff really happens and it was nice to see a story from that side of things. The characters were really well-written and relatable.
It was a good short story, but heavy on the sexy times, I wanted more of a relationship first rather than them jumping into bed at all times, the plot was well written and kept it interesting until the very end
Jake has a huge secret, he is flat broke. A fact he hides when he gets a offer he can’t refuse. Agatha (Aggie) is determined to make her program a success. Aggie has had other co-workers who don’t pull their weight. At first she thinks Jake is the same. It takes an interaction with a prospective focus for their project to force Jake to reveal his secrets of being broke. Jake wants to help the young man he identified with but tragedy str
ikes first.
This shirt story was well written and an easy read. I can’t wait for more from this author
It’s not always easy to like them, but Ms. Davenport makes it hard not to love them. Jake and Aggie are their own worst enemies. One broken heart too many has made Aggie jaded. Desperation has turned Jake into a fraud. When these two broken people cross paths It’s hate at first sight. Aggie sees an egotistical jerk with something to hide. Jake sees competition and needs to succeed. Neither counts on attraction, but love could end up being the beginning of the end or more than either bargained for. Fumble Recovery is flawed, but perfect. Davenport appeals to the imperfections of the heart and body, humanizing the characters.
I thought this short book was very good and if I had to say something negative about it, I would say that I would have loved it to be longer because I honestly felt that there was more that could have been explored. Regardless, it was a very enjoyable opposites attract romance that had interesting characters, great chemistry and a compelling storyline. For me there were two things that really made this read standout. 1. Aggie. She is not your cookie cutter heroine. Smart, sassy and totally sure of who she is. 2. Jake’s history. I found this a very refreshing (and realistic) take on a sports romance. Sometimes you get to the top. something happens, mistakes are made and life as you knew it is over. It is not the big fantasy of “success last forever” and I liked the gritty, genuine feel of it.
Book 4 in the Seattle Steelheads and what a great addition to the series that being said I do believe this novella could be read as a stand-alone.
Jake’s football career came crashing down and he is left housesitting for friends trying to keep a roof over his head so when a friend offers him the opportunity to get a program off the ground showing sportsman and sportswomen how to provide for the future he jumps on it problem is no one knows he lived the life that he is going to be trying to convince others not to…..
Aggie is going to be running the program and she can’t believe her luck when she meets Jake at a gala and they hit it off straight away. If they get on this well socially surely runnng the program is going to be a breeze………
Secrets are hard to keep and the truth will normally come out so will Jake be back to square one, will he lose his job and the woman he has grown very fond off. I loved this quick read it gave me all the feels I expect in a full length novel, I loved the characters and the plot for me this was another hit from this very talented author who certainly knows how to write a sports romance.
