Singing River Sheriff Thayne Blackwood and FBI Profiler Riley Lambert are called to a burning cabin deep off the beaten path. The scene of the fire is gruesome. A couple is found in their bed burned to ashes. What a tragic accident! Everyone knows you should never smoke in bed. Wait a minute. Riley doesn’t see this as an accident. Her view of the scene indicates to her this is probably a murder scene. Thayne, Riley’s fiance, has learned to trust Riley’s expertise and instincts. Also the couple’s daughter is missing. She is a homeschooled twelve-year-old so she should have been home. A search for Chloe is begun.
Forgotten Legacy by Robin Perini is the second book in her Singing River series. The first book, Forgotten Secrets was first published in July 2016. It was one of my “Top 5” books that year. I didn’t know if the author was planning to write more books about Riley Lambert, Thayne Blackwood and the people of Singing River but I was really hoping she would. I am guessing Forgotten Legacy will end up being one of my “Top 5” books of 2019.
This story has so much going for it – a keep-you-guessing storyline, intriguing plot twists, edge-of-your-seat suspense, jump-off-the-page realistic and very likeable characters, emotional depth and is very well-written. One of the main characters in both books in addition to Riley and Thayne is Thayne’s grandmother. Gram suffers from Alzheimer’s disease so she slips in and out of reality. This is significant because she has vital information Riley and Thayne need to keep everyone safe and solve the murder. Some of the scenes with Gram are very emotional. It is very difficult for the family and loved ones of Alzheimer sufferers to deal with the heartache of this disease. Robin Perini has faced this devastation with her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She is donating 10% of the royalties she receives for her Singing River novels to the Alzheimer Association.
I love Robin Perinis’ work. All of it. the series with Alzheimers is so heartwrenching and so relatable. All dealt within the confines of this remarkable, suspense novel. Strong female FBI, strong ex seal, now the sheriff. Murder, mystery and family. Well done. I listened to the audio version.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Interesting and twisted. Great characters and the narration was perfect. I would recommend this book.
I received this book in a Goodread giveaway. This was the first book I have read by this author, I found it to be very well written. It was action packed, and I found the storyline to be original. I love suspense/thrillers and this one certainly is that. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoy suspense thrillers.
Perini brings readers a contemporary romantic thriller.
Sheriff Blackwood and Agent Lambert are back to solving a mystery that looks like an accident. With only one survivor and the sketchy memory of his dear grandmother who is battling Alzhiemer’s Disease, it will be difficult to find the murderer before he comes after Agent Lambert.
Well rounded characters and an interesting and intricate plot will leave readers searching for the answers well beyond bed time.
I highly recommend this book to fans of the contemporary suspense genre.
Forgotten Legacy is Book 2 of the Singing River Legacy series by Robin Perini. Even though I’m sure a reader could follow along just fine without having read Book 1, I do recommend at least picking it up as it shares a lot of insight into the back story playing out this time around.
This is the only 2nd book I have read by this author and I must say I am impressed. This story is an edge of your seat, action-packed thriller with a dash of romance. Overall, it was a great story and I look forward to reading more of Thayne, Riley and the Blackwood family.
Forgotten Legacy by Robin Perini has it all. The twists and turns keep the pages flipping and your heart aching for these amazing characters. Perini weaves the real-life struggle couples today face trying to balance careers and family, complicated by the devastation of Alzheimers, and a crazed murderer, all while delivering an amazingly satisfying ending.
Singing River Forgotten Legacy
Robin Perini
Riveting story line that has you on pins and needles throughout the book.
Strong characters facing not only a villain, but the horrible Alzheimer battle that Gram faces.
Couldn’t put it down once I started.
Thayer and Riley have issues to face a long with a crime to solve while keeping family safe. The author has done a marvelous job of blending all of it together for a unforgettable read.
FBI Special Agent Riley Lambert’s return to Singing River Wyoming was not quite what she’d hoped for. She’s had a lot on her mind since completing her assignment in Washington DC. She wanted to speak with her boyfriend Thayne Blackwood, the local sheriff, but Thayne is otherwise occupied with a case. The Jordans’ home burned to the ground and the husband and wife are dead. It takes Riley but a few moments to pronounce it a crime scene: the Jordans were murdered. Thayne knows Riley is the best and he needs her talents as a behaviour analyst to solve this case. They still make a great team, but will their romance stand the test of time?
FORGOTTEN LEGACY is the second installment in the Singing River series, and while it is a continuation of book one, it stands entirely on its own. There is a lot going on: the arson investigation; Thayne’s grandmother who is battling Alzheimer’s; and Thayne’s and Riley’s romance which is not going smoothly. Their relationship issues are very realistic, and I couldn’t see how they could make it work. It’s rare to see the conflict for a couple coming from their career choices, and I really liked that. Riley is truly obsessed with her work, and this is one of those rare instances where I wouldn’t have minded a little more romance, but it was great watching them at work.
I must admit I found it hard to rate this book, because I found it quite depressing. It seems nothing is going right for anyone, apart from Madison, Riley’s sister. There’s Thayne’s grandmother’s Alzheimer’s; another character has health issues – actually more than one. For the best part of the book, it seemed like Thayne and Riley would break up, even though they do love each other. I certainly was not expecting a barrel of laughs, but it was really bleak.
Ms. Perini’s writing is excellent, as always, but while all the characters are fully fleshed out, it was disconcerting that most are barely described. There is no physical description of Thayne or Riley, none whatsoever. They must have been described in the previous book, but I didn’t remember; it felt like watching a black and white movie on a TV with bad reception but with exceptional sound quality. The story is quite complex, with many layers, but I’m still not sure what to make of the scenario with the killer. Robin Perini is experiencing first-hand the devastation of Alzheimer’s, as her mother suffers from the disease, and this book shows how heartbreaking it is for everyone concerned. Make sure to read the Afterword and the Acknowledgements.
