Review:
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an quick easy read. I really enjoy the paranormal aspect of this book, I think it adds another level. Plus I really like paranormal cozies. Amanda had a real predicament when she saw the ghost of someone who supposedly disembarked, she could not really tell the authorities that. She was not sure how to let the authorities when there was no body. As usual with this author, there are many layers to the book and mystery and I had a lot of fun watching the levels unravel.
I really enjoyed getting to spend time with Amanda and her friends. You can tell how much they care about each other and love each other. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and that description pulled me into the story right from the beginning. The mystery was well plotted and moved along at a steady pace. There were a lot of twists and turns and clues to sift through and it was not easily solved.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you like a little paranormal with you cozy, this book (and series) is for you.
Amanda can see ghosts. This is a quality or talent she has come to accept.
Once in witness protection, she thinks the danger to her life is now over, and she and the friendships she made while living as Alyson, are on to a new phase. She and her best friends accept an invitation to a small, private cruise with a company called Hamilton Investments. It was an annual company event, but after some developments came to light, a few openings became available on the cruise.
It did not take long before this group of outsiders realized all is not as it seems.
Fortunately for them, this is not their first mystery to investigate together. Unfortunately. being out on open seas, there may be no place to hide.
You may want to read this novel with a whiteboard or notebook at your side to keep track of who’s who and who was where when. At first it has a classic feel like an elimination mystery.
But something is not right. What is the real motive and even though there is a ghost, they can’t prove a crime without a body. Until the itinerary and route change.
Besides having curious minds, a talent for keeping a tally, it comes in handy for these friends to be handy in the kitchen! Is that enough to keep them alive until help arrives?
Besides the in the moment mystery involving things that are not where or who they seem, and may go bump in the night, there is information about something sinister returning to endanger Amanda once again.
Amanda, Mac, and Trevor are invited guests along with Mac’s new boyfriend, Ty, on a cruise of the islands off the coastline of Oregon. It’s an annual event for a small company that Ty has done some work for. When Amanda sees the ghost of one of the employees she knows things have gone seriously wrong. There are only twenty people on board, can she and the gang solve the mystery before anyone else dies?
I really enjoyed this book. It drew me in from the start and kept me hooked until the end. Kathi is an excellent author who brings her characters to life. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
“Betrayal by the Sea” earns 5/5 Classy Cruises…Clever and Entertaining!
A week on an intimate luxury cruise sounds delightful…roomy staterooms, 5-star dining, off-shore jaunts, on-board pampering, ghosts, and murder. Amanda joins her BFFs and budding boyfriend aboard the cruise primarily for the management and top employees from the Hamilton Investments. It’s not entirely an enjoying week of relaxation and camaraderie since the employees are having business meetings, discussions, and yes, speculation on the future of the company. Amanda and her friends are pretty much on the periphery, overhearing a rousing round of gossip on who’s with whom, spouses, office politics, and sharing the boss’s brow-beating attitude. Is that a ghost leaning on the railing? Sometimes knowing too much can put you in danger or dead.
This fourth book is another entertaining story and a favorite with a fascinating paranormal twist….“I see dead people.” Kathi Daley’s writing includes a first-person narrative from Amanda’s “I” perspective putting me where I like to be right in the middle of the story, and she uses a detailed descriptive and conversational style for her stories focusing on characters, any backstory, the setting, and the mystery at hand. Not to say there isn’t any action, she does put her characters into peril with more missing and fear of more deaths creating a compelling drama. In this story, she included a boat full of characters needing introduction and explanation of their connections which had me a bit overwhelmed, but as the murder mystery unfolded it all fell into place. Also the ghost/murder victim, a component on which this series relies, doesn’t appear till well into the story, but the details, twists, secrets, lies, and ultimate end was so clever and engaging it didn’t matter. Along with the enjoyable mystery and ghostly interactions, readers are given further insights into Amanda’s ghost whispering that has sharpened over the series, her budding romance, and the ongoing mystery of the text message related to the matter that sent her into witness protection. A very enjoyable series, and this might be the best one!
Betrayal By The Sea is the fourth episode in the excellent Haunting By the Sea mystery series.
Amanda, Trevor, and Mac are invited on a cruise ship by Mac’s boyfriend, Ty. They are having a great time until Amanda sees the ghost of one of the passengers and they realize the ship has gone off course. Amanda and friends work together to solve this mystery, stay safe, and contact the authorities before it is too late.
This book is filled with the elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, danger, humor, love, and friendship. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable read. I could hardly put the book down. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Betrayal by the Sea is the fourth book in the Haunting by the Sea series. This author never fails to keep my interest. I read this story in one day because I just could not put it down. It is excellent, and I encourage you to read it too. You won’t be sorry.
Book 4 of the Haunting by the Sea has us going on a cruise with Amanda, Trevor, Mac and Ty. This intriguing paranormal mystery has lots of twists and turns which kept me guessing to the end. A very well done plot with interesting characters and an intriguing mystery makes this a book I highly recommend.
Amanda and the bunch are off on a small private cruise and they couldn’t be more excited. Mac’s boyfriend received the tickets and hope it would be a fun way to spend time together. The cruise is going well until Amanda happens upon a ghost that was one of the other passengers. They were told that the young woman had left the ship to deal with a family issue but Amanda realizes that she never actually made it off the boat. Amanda tells everyone what is going on and they all decide to discreetly look into what could have happened. They don’t know anyone else on the ship so they aren’t sure who they can trust and if what they are told is truth or a lie. Follow along as the group searches the ship for clues, tactfully questions the other guests, and calls their local sheriff for insight. Will they be able to come up with the answers they need before something else happens or will they find themselves lost at sea. This was a great read and I enjoyed that the characters got to do some sleuthing away from their normal scenery. It was a chance to see them out of their comfort zones and it showed how well they thought on their feet. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!!
