If you enjoy Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James, Sarah MacLean, Sabrina Jeffries or Elizabeth Hoyt, you’ll love this regency series from Carrie Lomax! She has everything a woman could want. The last thing she needs is a man. Mrs. Viola Cartwright’s fortunes took a turn for the better the day her sister wed the Earl of Briarcliff. As a lady of leisure, her only responsibility is to her son, Matthew – and … to her son, Matthew – and he’s headed off to school in a few weeks. Leaving her with ample time to pursue her interest in music, acquiring a long-denied education, and dancing – lots and lots of dancing. Until a series of jewel thefts casts a shadow over the final weeks of the London season….
He’ll take on Bow Street to save her.
Lord Piers Ranleigh, sixth viscount Dalton, has desired the mysterious, lighthearted widow ever since she arrived in London. But Viola parries his attempts to court her by pushing him into the arms of another woman. Piers plays along–for a while. When suspicion falls over Viola he must decide how much he’ll sacrifice to protect her.
A past she can’t escape threatens a future they both desire.
When a figure from her past threatens Viola’s new life, she must decide how far to trust Piers – and learns just how deep a family’s love runs.
Content warning: This story involves a subplot about a broken marriage, and a minor character dies in the final scenes. I promise not to end every book in this series with a death! Series title changed from Lords of London to avoid confusion with another author.

I found this to be an enjoyable read. The banter between the two main characters was sometimes funny, but Lord Dalton had so much love to give to Violet that it hurt to see how he was suffering at her denials. I was a little disappointed at how long she made him wait, but she did love him. It was nice to see her son and Emily maturing. It was well written and fun to see how well Edward was doing( the wild Lord). This is not a book for the young, sexy scenes. I look forward to more of her books.
Love the story, love the characters, love the writing. Very much enjoyed Piers and Viola’s story. Looking forward to more historical books from Carrie Lomax.

Prepare to be entertained in this story of a woman, finally on her own with her young son and trying to enjoy life. But there is a lot in her past that may come back to haunt her in the least expected way!
Viola Cartwight is a widower, but her sister had just married an Earl, so fortune was smiling. However she was being pursued or at least highly flirthed and engaged with Lord Piers. He seemed to be fascinated with her and comes around every chance he gets!
They dance, he holds her close, she tries to push him back. The looks from him are heart melting. The banter betweent the two is snappy and some secrets just come out unexpectedly!
But Viola does not want to get involved (ok she really does but tries to resist!) and thinks she is not good enough for him. He would also need a male heir, although he has a rambunctious little girl I loved, and thinks she may not be able to provide.
As she pushes him away toward another, then past rises up and there are so many unexpected challenges. Can these two ever get together and be happy?
I encourage you to read and find out while you are transported back to a different time and place!

The well written storyline and the interesting characters made this book a very enjoyable and entertaining read!
I really was looking forward to reading this book only to meet with some disappointment. The story felt dragged out and stretched. The storyline of a fifteen-year-old girl accepting marriage to a man twenty-five years her senior to protect her younger sister and herself after their parents died. It is supposed to be dramatic but it was not. The book hardly told of the years Viola spent with her husband Samuel Cartwright. It alluded to the hardships but that was all. The book never went into the personality of her young son Matthew or her sister Harper. The focus was on Viola’s experiencing the good life now that she was ensconced with her maternal grandmother, Baroness Landor. It also highlighted Viola’s relationship with Piers, Viscount Dalton. They were so enamored with each other. However, Viola had it in her head she wanted freedom more than another marriage. But she was in love with Piers. The back and forth dilemma for both of them became tedious to read. Then it felt like the situation of Viola’s imprisonment and the accusations against her were thrown into the story for sensational effect. The epilogue concluded the story but it was sad to me that Viola made Piers wait a very long time for her commitment and that he had no heir and had to train a relative next in line for the Viscountcy. I don’t know if this can be improved on, but I hope it can.
This is book two in the London Scandals a well written story, one I was not putting down once I started it. Mrs. Viola Cartwright and Lord Piers Ranleigh the sixth viscount Dalton will go through a lot before they are finally together. There is also her son, Matthew and his sisters Gwen, and Emily as part of the story. When this series is finished I will be reading these books again. I love historical romance and this book had more of a twist that still left a question afterward. I can’t wait to see if the next book will give the answers or if there will be a side book. I’m excited to read the first book of this series.
