Rarity Mountain will take readers into the depth of Tennessee wooden area with Simon and Fern taking the challenge as contestants for “Survival Tennessee,” a brainstorm by rich Gregory Vanderbilt. The masterful expressive scenes, breathtaking moments of suspense, past secrets needing voiced, budding romance and discovering God’s love kept the story moving at a fast pace. Simon and Fern’s survival clues gave way to heart pounding and gasping as they endured moments of thinking Vanderbilt was out to kill them. There are plenty of twists and turns with unexpected moments that revealed how much Foust is connected with the outdoors. I appreciated the message of hope that is interwoven into the story.
This is the third book in Foust’s Love, Hope and Faith series, with each book being a standalone with a clear Christian message amidst the suspense, action and romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was under no obligation to write a positive review, but have shared my own thoughts.
I loved this book!! It’s got everything you could possibly want in a book!! It has action, suspense, some mystery, and, most important of all, a path to redemption! You definitely won’t want to put this book down!
Drama – no matter the cost
What Simon and Fern thought was going to be an intense survival adventure turned a bit terrifying as they began to wonder if the TV director might be out for something more than simply an exciting show.
Rarity Mountain was a different type of suspense from the first two in the series. Simon and Fern were cast together to survive in the wilderness for a television show. Their individual motivations for going on the show made perfect sense in the context of the story. Would I have done that in their situations? Are you kidding? I would die in the wilderness like that!!
There were a couple of things that could have been better. In some places, the time frame seemed jumbled. Also, at the beginning of the book, Simon pretty much brushed off God despite knowing about Him (his brother is a pastor). Though we saw a point where he knew he needed prayer because of an accident, all of a sudden nearer the end he appeared to have a strong faith. The switch seemed a bit too abrupt and could have been developed more.
These are minor quibbles, though, and I really enjoyed Rarity Mountain.
My heart was torn for Presley and her feelings of inadequacy. With my parents supporting me so well, it is very hard to imagine what that would be like, yet the author had me experiencing a little of that emotion.
The friendship that sprung up so unexpectedly between Maya and Paisley was so refreshing. I loved Maya and am looking forward to going back and reading all her books to learn more about her. She and Paisley bonded over their grief for life not working out according to their own plans.
In the midst of the yearning, are fun zoo puns, a budding romance, and especially a growing awareness that God just might be more than a disinterested Creator and that He just might have a plan for Paisley’s life that is beyond what she imagines.
The ending of Room for Cream was satisfying and yet a cliff-hanger. It certainly left me hungry for more. The next book is slated for release sometime this spring. So I now have the opportunity to go back and start from the first book of the Maya Davis series!
