An amateur sleuth B&B owner, a weekend wedding, and a dead body in a suitcase. Another murder mystery in the cozy beach town of Sweetfern Harbor…
Brenda Rivers welcomes guests to Sheffield Bed and Breakfast with her Reservationist, Allie Williams. In the meantime, everyone is excited for the wedding of Brenda’s father and her Chef scheduled for that afternoon. Allie greets the booked … afternoon. Allie greets the booked guests and takes note of one who hits her the wrong way. Patrick Anderson is outspoken and rude. Few, if any in his life, like him.
Most of the weekenders decide to attend the wedding except for Patrick, Rick Dawson, Carrie Porter and Daniel Swift. Each voice courteous reasons and they leave to pursue interests along the shoreline below the bed and breakfast or in Sweetfern Harbor shops. As the wedding celebrations begin after the ceremony, Detective Mac Rivers is called to the Precinct. A dead body has been left at the back door of the Police Station. Inside the over-sized footlocker are the remains of Patrick Anderson.
It doesn’t take Brenda long to discover one of her guests, Alexandra Cornell, possesses fleeting personalities. Alexandra finally admits she witnessed Patrick’s murder from her perch on the seawall during the celebrations. Brenda decides that Alexandra’s changeable moods is the culprit of Brenda’s doubts about her story. When Daniel Swift is fingered in the crime, he must prove his vowed innocence against someone who vouches seeing him commit the murder. Just as Brenda and Mac begin to hone in on the true killer, they discover one guest is missing. Alexandra mentions he is running away but gives no reason.
Brenda must decide who killed Patrick and who assisted in the deed. Rick Dawson is missing, Daniel swears he is innocent, and Alexandra is too fragile to win against an athletic man like Patrick Anderson. Above all, the questions become who to believe and where will the evidence lead them in solving this crime.

This author writes my favorite type of mysteries – clean! I love this series too, with the Inn and the wonderful characters. This is the 6th book that I have read in this series but I am planning to catch up on all of them because these stories are that good.

We start the book with such a happy event a wedding yet it quickly became a murder investigation. Mac gets a call from the station is told they have a dead body in a suitcase and it was delivered to the back door of the police station. The Sheffield Bed and Breakfast is full of suspects. Who is the murder victim? What is the reason for the murder? The author did a great job of leaving clues and leaving you wondering. This was an excellent cozy. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
There is something that doesn’t seem right with some of the guests at the Sheffield Bed and Breakfast. One guy is rude, grude and just obnoxious, then there is another man that is trying to keep away from another female guest. Then there is the couple that spend more time alone than with the other guests. Soon, a man’s body if found stuffed inside a large trunk, like one you would store clothes in. It is one of the guests, the obnoxious one that likes to swim in the ocean. He had drowned! How can that be, he is a strong swimmer? Then there is the wedding of Brenda’s father. Who would want to kill Patrick? Let’s not forget about Alexsandra. Sometimes she seems to be ‘normal’ then at times her mind wanders. She is after Daniel, another guest, who broke her heart in college. Can Mac and Brenda get everything sorted out and find the real killer and why? You will have to read the book for the answers. A happy occasion turned into a new mystery with the newest installment of the Sweetfern Harbor Mystery. I thought that it was a nice idea to invite the guests of the bed and breakfast to the wedding, but I could not get past my internal question as to why would they accept any reservations during that time. As true to form with the other books in the series, this proved to be a fast paced read the dared me to keep reading. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I think I’d like to live in Sweetfern Harbor, especially at the Sheffield B & B. While there is a wedding at the B & B, there is also a murder on the beach below. Turns out not all the guests are strangers after all. The story keeps you guessing, and the characters are believable. It is part of a series but can stand on its own.

This Sweetfern Harbor mystery takes a series of darker turns.
death is not accidental in the book, but various types of revenge long planned. No lack of suspects for the murder of this spoiled, entitled character. no party kept safe by the death – just more upheaval, death and bereavement.
one wonders why folks are so eager to visit the tourist town where so many have gathered to kill or to die.
powerful story – sadly moving.

Brenda Rivers has a full bed & breakfast and a busy day kicking off the wedding for her dad and personal chef. Nothing can go wrong! Things don’t start out so well when a guest is rude to reservationist Allie and leaves a very bad impression. However, Brenda doesn’t have time for his rudeness and decides to focus on the wedding which she gives an open invitation to all B&B guests to attend. Most decide to go and everyone has a wonderful time. Just as the ceremony ends, Brenda’s husband Mac (police detective) receives word that a dead body has been left in an over-sized suitcase at the back door of the police station and the body is Patrick the rude B&B guest.
With Brenda and Mac on the case, they find more than one guest with a motive for murder. They must decipher between the information supplied by an unreliable witness and contend with a missing guest that is assumed to be on the run. This mystery is filled with a lot of twists and turns, a few red herrings, and a surprising whodunit resolution.
