I really enjoy devotionals because there is always something God has waiting for me to read. I was so excited when I found out for the first time that I was pregnant. Then reality hit and all these crazy things started running through my head. This book is a wonderful tool to use to encourage mothers as they find their way through motherhood.
I really like the chapter about “Hope in a Hopeless place.” I had a similar scary moment with my youngest son. He started having seizures and we rushed him to the hospital. They then transferred him by ambulance to the Children’s hospital. We found out after five days in ICU that he had an allergic reaction to mosquito bites. During that time I was so scared I couldn’t even think straight. I did learn a valuable lesson through this experience. God is in control and I needed to trust Him with my children.
We can learn many things from our children and one of those is how much faith they have when sometimes we can’t even have enough faith to believe our circumstances are not to big for God. Another chapter I liked was called, “Comparison versus Completeness.” This chapter really hit home for me. I have always felt inadequate as a mom and see how other women make motherhood look easy. I found myself always tired and disorganized. This chapter reminded me that we are all different . We have been designed by God to be uniquely us. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses . When we learn to focus on or gifts and talents then, ” We will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding that will guard your heart and mind.”
I received a copy of this book from the authors and Read with Audra blogging program.
These devotions are beautifully written, encouraging and and challenges mothers to give themselves grace. Being in the trenches of motherhood is sometimes the most challenging and loneliness of times. These devotions help mothers to look to the Lord and to count each day as a blessing. In these devotions there is also practical advice that mothers can share over coffee, not for comparison but for help and encouragement!
I wish I’d had Grit & Grace when I first became a mother nearly seven years ago. I needed loving, affirming, wise voices of women who’d gone before. That’s what Suzanne and Gretta do in this book. Their stories are relatable, and inspiring. They often cite Scripture and there is a prayer at the end of each devotion.
It takes me less than five minutes to read a devotion (good for busy moms) and I often read more than one a day. There’s a large range of topics and, for the most part, they can be read in any order. I did not notice anything that contradicts the Bible. I do feel the book is best suited for mothers with babies and young children. Not that a mother of a older child wouldn’t glean wisdom from the devotions, but I feel like most of the devotions deal with the issues that arise with younger children.
I’ll share one of my favorite quotes that has altered my perspective: “The reality that your time with your little ones is limited shouldn’t depress you, Mama. It should empower you. It should empower you to sit longer snuggled on the couch, reading ‘just one more’ book. It should empower you to set aside your to-do list to watch your tutu-clad princess perform her original production for you. (Page 12)” That’s just a snippet of one devotional that really hit home for me, but I’ve underlined statements in nearly each devotion. I can see myself reusing this book over and over again.

Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms is a great devotional. It is a combination of grace, inspiration, and faith. It had some entries that had laugh out loud humor and some that brought me to tears. It made me realize that I do not have to be a perfect mom and it is okay to laugh and cry.
Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms is one devotional that a mom should not miss. I happily gave my copy over to another mom that could be inspired by it. I can not wait to find out how she liked it.
I highly recommend Grit and Grace: Devotions for Warrior Moms for all moms to read. I found it to be relatable and I am sure others will, too. The devotions are short, making it easy for any mom could use. I am give it a well deserved five plus stars.
