A hilarious homage to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. Even though it would mean putting myself in danger, I desperately wanted to join the action on the secluded island. A fun, fast-paced read!
This book is awesome! Leslie Langtry continues to amaze me. I love this series, all the books so far have been fantastic, but the whole concept of this book is genius. A combination of one of my favorite Agatha Christie books, And Then There Were None, mixed with a little bit of the game Clue, and Merry, Soon Jin, Betty (the little girl who keeps getting more dangerous AND smart), Ava, Lauren, Inez, and 8 financial donors are in a secluded mansion to play this awesome game over the weekend when everything turns very real, and people keep dying at the hands of a real murderer. Everyone is a suspect. To make matters even more difficult, they are stranded on an island in the middle of a lake due to a storm and have no way out! Brilliant twist on one of my very favorite mystery series. Both hilarious and suspenseful, Merry is at her best!
Merry Wrath is on another outing with Dr. Body and her girl scouts, well at four of them. They are at a fund raiser set up by the scout organization and have decided on a Murder Mystery weekend. But when the donors start turning up dead Merry has her hands full. A severe thunder storm has moved in and cut all power to make it more difficult to find the murderer. With the help of Dr. Body and the 4 girl scouts will they find the killer before it’s too late? A witty and fun read that will leave you wanting more.
“Mystery Night Murder” earns 5/5 Mini Lops…Clever, Engaging, & a Few Giggles!
It’s a delightful fundraiser idea for the Girl Scout Council, a mystery murder game with an Agatha Christie twist: a private island in the middle of a lake, a mansion with its own murderous history, and forty-eight hours to uncover the fake “killer.” Ok, what could possibly go wrong?! Merry and four of her more precocious scouts are helping make arrangements and posing as cast members to treat some of the special donors, but Merry’s personal nemesis is also in attendance along with a disinterested rich guy, a well-known criminal attorney and his doting wife, a renowned surgeon, septuagenarian philanthropist couple, full-of-herself CEO, a bored tech billionaire, and a cook and a groundskeeper who have better things to do. What a gang! But, the wrong person ends up dead (really dead), a storm knocks out communications and chances for help from the mainland, and one of the figurines marking the guests is mangled. But, it doesn’t stop there…Agatha Christie would be so proud!
I love Merry Wrath! Leslie Langtry’s mystery is very engaging with more than a few suspects with motive, opportunity, and means to turn this supposedly fun weekend into a real twenty-five-to-life felony. I enjoy her entertaining writing style which includes vivid descriptions of the setting, characters, food, and crime scenes, fun and informative dialogue illustrating personality and emotion, and my favorite…pure snarky Merry! Beyond a very clever multi-victim murder mystery mimicking one of my favorite Christie novels, Langtry also adds some of the fun in the game Clue. But, it’s the delightful characters that make this a personal favorite and kept me turning the page. Using a first-person narrative (my favorite perspective) sharing Merry’s inner thoughts, she also incorporates many of her experiences, often dangers, as a spy and snarky interpretations that leave the reader giggling. Entertaining. Clever. Just the right amount of humor.
I love the Merry Wrath Mysteries and this one being a Mystery Weekend on a secluded island is fantastic.
wonderful fun cozy whodunit! Murder, romance and comedy, who could ask for more! Quirky characters and fun storyline.
Leslie Langtry scores a perfect 10 with the latest Merry Wrath mystery! I am an avid Merry Wrath fan and I’ll happily go wherever she and her girl scouts lead me, looking forward to laugh out loud moments and crazy characters. This story exceeded my expectations. This is a fun twist on the isolated murder mystery night gathering where characters are killed off one at a time. “And then there were none” Agatha Christie style mixed with a little Clue style “was it the butler in the Conservatory with the candlestick?” This time, Merry and Soo Jin take 8 wealthy girl scout foundation donors to an island where they will be entertained by a carefully scripted who-dunnit. Along with 4 girl scouts, 2 house staff, and 2 additional girl scout personnel, they are alone on the island when a storm takes out communications and the weekend goes off script! Sure enough the guests start dying one by one following the lines of a poem left in each players room.
This is a real page-turner. Pay close attention or just enjoy, no worries, the girl scouts are tracking on a murder board. I made a few guesses throughout the book, but I never guessed! Well crafted, well developed, and unique. If you feel like picking up a super fun, cozy mystery. Try Merry Wrath!
I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.
Mystery Night Murder kept me up late. Merry Wrath and the scouts are a hoot. Those girls have some serious skills. Who would not love a series where the medical examiner is named Dr. Body? This plot was more convoluted than ever and I had no clue about the murderer. To me that is a very successful mystery.
Really Truly Messed Up. I was half right about who the killer was so I’m a happy camper.
