This was an interesting and original tale. I enjoyed it very much.
Enjoyed the twists and turns but knew the bad guy too soon!
I just finished this book & can’t wait to read the next one featuring Damien Drake.
Glad I found this author. Have read 4 of his books so far.
So Damien is one complex character. He is dealing with the loss of things in his life and not in a good way. He needs his job and is good at it but he is also messing up because of his guilt and loss. Now he is being brought into a case that can have dangerous implications for all around him. Damien has so many that want to take him down. His boss especially and at times he adds fuel to that fire. That is what makes him more interesting. He is his own worst enemy.
A killer that is conniving, manipulative and evil. One that is years in the making and you can tell has no remorse over what he is doing. The butterfly touch is very Silence of the Lambs series feeling with that hidden meaning and undertones of the butterfly.
Our detective is like that butterfly-has hidden layers and undertones. He is amazing at getting into a killer’s view but horrible at social niceties. His new partner is not one he expected and one he respects but is pushing away as well. The officers on this case don’t trust him and don’t want to work with him but do know he is who will figure it out. He is a dichotomy. Not sure where he fits in but knows that stopping murders is what he belongs doing.
The story is full of danger, twists and turns and reveals you do not expect. The characters complex and how the author has you learn about them and has them unfold before your eyes is amazing. It is like you are beside them as an observer seeing them become or undo themselves in some cases. The mystery is complex and fascinating. YOu get to see some of the killer’s views without realizing it and that ending was just wow.
Another very good Patrick Logan book. Good plot, good characters.
It was entertaining but not as page-turning as I was hoping.
Was a good read , I plan on reading his other books in the series’s.
Kept me guessing
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and kept you interested.
This was a different book than I normally read, it was very unusual. I can’t say I really liked it, yet I read the entire book. I think the scary thing about it is that it could be real story if someone was twisted enough to carry it through.
If the book don’t get me interested in within the first two chapters I stop reading it this one didn’t do it for me I’m sorry
Interesting read
predictable
It was ok. It was easy to read but could have been more interesting.
I have no issue with the story line; the author kept the pace from lagging and the characters were believable except for the otherwise highly efficient detective. I was put off by the main character’s unending need for alcohol in every situation to the point it became a distracting irritant. My biggest problem however, was the license (faulty) taken in the case of the Monarch butterfly as a bizarre and connecting element. Monarchs could NOT stay alive in a dark, moist, airless environment like the mouth of a dead person. And they don’t take months to pupate as the author noted (as a matter of fact, only about 10 days) . Also, they couldn’t be kept for months or even more than a very few days without the only thing the caterpillars can eat – the leaves of the milkweed plant. A glass case of them would be out of food in less that one day. Readers were very misinformed; a disservice to the highly endangered Monarch Butterfly. If you can’t research it correctly, then leave it out!
I didn’t make it to chapter 4 – I have had it up to here with the drunken detective, wrought with guilt over the death of his/her partner, husband/wife/child. Come on – that tired old nag has been so overdone – and the new partner trying to shake the drunken bum enough to bring back the spark.
Geeeeez
Oh yes – and the filthy dishes in the sink, the pizza boxes – if there is a cliche missing I didn’t see it in the first 3 chapters.
