A couple’s unforgettable journey around the world … and a soul’s journey across time.
Lonely and tired of coming second to workaholic Edward’s job, Kara has just about given up on their marriage. But on the day she plans to ask for a divorce, Edward is fired. Loathe to confess the truth to Kara, he instead promises her the one thing she’s always dreamed of: an around-the-world bicycle tour, … around-the-world bicycle tour, just the two of them.
Soon they’re pedaling across America, headed for Europe and beyond, but the truth about Edward’s job isn’t the only thing he’s hiding from Kara. And with each mile, his deception mounts, setting in motion a series of events that shatter the bonds of time.
Across the world, Kara’s soul mate from another era awaits—Alessio, a nineteenth century art dealer. What should be the adventure of a lifetime, bringing Edward and Kara closer, turns into a fight for survival, as Alessio will stop at nothing to reclaim the woman he thinks belongs with him. Now it’s up to Edward to rewrite the past to save his marriage … and the woman he loves.
Tailwinds Past Florence is an “enchanting, whirlwind tale” of action, romance, and travel—around the world and through time—that lingers in the reader’s mind long after the last page is turned.

A little different from the normal time travel romance, which was a good thing. Kept you wondering what was happening.
Doug Walsh has taken his real-life adventures and turned them into an ambitious, imaginative, swooping love story.
A bit of chick kit but readable and enjoyable.
Edward and Kara’s marriage is in trouble. They are just existing. Suddenly circumstances give Edward the chance to make his wife happy. Will an around the world bike trip let them save their marriage? Maybe not- after all it’s built on lies. Edward is difficult to like. He won’t tell Kara the truth and forces his agenda on her. Kara is to trusting. I wanted her to wake up and stand her ground. I was pulled into their lives. I needed to know how it would end. The time travel element was perfectly inserted. It was a surprise and certainly added drama to this story. Tailwinds Past Florence was an interesting book. It’s not my usual choice of reading, but I couldn’t put it down. Doug Walsh has an easy to read writing style that I enjoyed.
I read this book and at the end was not sure if I liked it. I loved the description of the trip across North America. I found Edward’s lack of honesty and inability to see what was right in front of his face frustrating. Although I enjoy descriptions of Florence, one of my favorite cities, I felt the storyline went off the rails. I think this book is an OK beach read but certainly not a literary masterpiece.
This story is different from what I normally read and I really enjoyed it! Kara and Ed are married college sweethearts that love each other deeply, but are not happy. Kara wants a companion, friend, and lover in her husband and Ed has convinced himself that he works as much as he does to provide for Kara, but for him it runs deeper than that. There is a paranormal element that I loved and illustrates that it’s never too late to change and interrupt an seemingly endless loop. The writing really pulled me in. I have no interest cycling, but I was engrossed in their journey with all the ups and downs, even the technical aspects were interesting. Though I didn’t like either characters behaviors at some points I was always invested and hoping for them to be happy and together. The writing is great, the twists are awesome, and the plot is completely original which I loved so much! Will absolutely read more from this author.
It is a love story. A real love story. Without varnish or makeup.
It sounds like love and looks like love. Love that fights and nitpicks and questions. But it is also a love that endures. That recognizes there is loneliness on the other side of a decision to separate.
There is a bicycling adventure component, but it is a love story. And yes, there are a time-travel element but honestly, “Tailwinds Past Florence” is a mature and well thought-out love story.
Doug Walsh’s writing is strong. It feels very real. Written from the perspective of someone who has done a lot of cycling and traveling and loving.
