Frustrated by his own failures at matrimony, King Henry VIII punishes an insolent nobleman by commanding him to marry the vagabond woman caught stealing his horse. Stephen de Lacey is a cold and bitter widower, long accustomed to the sovereign’s capricious and malicious whims. He regards his new bride as utterly inconvenient… ordinary thief—she is a Russian princess forced into hiding by the traitorous cabal who slaughtered her family. One day she hopes to return to Muscovy to seek vengeance.
What begins as a mockery of a marriage ultimately blossoms into deepest love.

I have a weakness for Tudor period in romance novels: the turbulent times, incredible pageantry, the old fashioned language and the beliefs that people used to have those days. This book delivered on these things for me and more. It featured a few things that I have not read about before such as Gypsy people. The best part was how author wrote …
This is a first read by Susan Wiggs. I thought the writing was good, however it did have its moments where I wanted to DNF because of bordem and constant bickering between the two major characters with no intense attraction. This story had me dragging to complete because I wanted to really know how it ended without jumping through chapters.

Very predictable romance book.
Caught my interest in 3 pages. Great characters. Now reading sequel.
Wiggs writes in so many genres, and she never misses the mark. Her historical novels are gripping and so well told we live in the worlds she creates. Her modern novels bring us laughter and tears. What more can we ask of an author? The “command” series is outstanding.
Great story for a quick easy read. Really enjoyed some of the Historical references. It was very different than I expected.
This was a wonderful read! I loved all the characters as well as the twists and turns of the plot! Well done!
I own all of Susan Wiggs books and have read them all.
Highly recommend.
The plot was not what I expected. It kept me interested as there were more unexpected turns in the story.
Very repetitious. The relationship seemed to just drag on before it got resolved.
Old story but with a twist. A quick read!
Historical romance is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love to step back in time and view love from a different perspective. As I read this book I realized I had read it years before, but it had been long enough that it seemed new. The author does a good job of developing the characters- they are believable and carry you with them as the story …
I suggest u read this book..
Excellent read! Unexpected events!
Just found her and love her work.
Fantastic
As a distant relative of Henry v111 I enjoy any thing about him and that time. I realize it is fiction, but I also know there is fact mixed in the storyline and that makes it exciting.
The average novel follows a set format and is fairly predictable in how it’s characters will respond. This book did not. It delightfully changed directions every couple of pages with surprise happenings. When you thought a character would do one thing, they turned around and did something unexpected. I enjoyed being constantly surprised in the …
Enjoy Susan Wiggs. She never disappoints!
