I have been a Kathi Daley fan for years but Harper is my favorite book so far. Since for me strong character interaction is the key to a good book. Watching Harper and Michael face their journey together made this book great. I can’t wait for Harlow’s book.

Review:
The author is very talented in creating suspense with just the written word. I was swiping pages as fast as I could through the entire book. I wanted to see what was going to happen next but I was also wary to find out. Right from the beginning of the book, there was tension and excitement and I was drawn in.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. Harper and Michael made a good team. They both have had heartache in their lives but they both overcame it and and are much stronger because of that heartache. One thing I know when I read a book by this author is that there will be a strong sense of family and this book is no different.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and wherever the book took me I felt like I was immersed in that setting.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted suspense. I will definitely be looking for the next book in this series.
Harper Hathaway couldn’t wait until her graduation and the day she could leave Moosehead, MN.
A decade later, having been military trained and world traveled, she is weary and headed home. Life, however, won’t allow her to take a direct route.
From the darker reaches of mystery writer Kathi Daley’s mind comes a story of suspense and intrigue revolving around a found infant and a lost ledger. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, reading far into the night.
Harper is only the first of the Hathaway Sisters we are to meet and I feel confident each has a dangerous, adventure to experience and share.
The characters are well developed, with depth.
The writing is impressive, fast paced and on a quality level.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters, and I always enjoy that I can easily read Daley’s books in a couple of hours which keeps the tension strong until resolution. Yes, it is somewhat reminiscent of the author’s other series, but the redundancy did not bother me. I am looking forward to the next installment.
“Harper” earns 5/5 On-the-Run Adventures…Exciting and Engaging!
Wow! This is definitely one of Kathi Daley’s best, an exciting introduction to her newest series focusing on the second oldest of five Hathaway Sisters. After a tragic accident, Harper Hathaway, former military and treasure hunter, heads north along the California north coast…alone. Momentarily distracted, she swerves, barely missing a dog, and ending up in a drainage ditch. Dazed, but not injured, she exits quickly to check on the dog who, more like a puppy, balks at her efforts to help him. He limps further down the embankment where she sees another car with indications that this accident was very recent. The passengers are seriously injured, but she’s shocked to find a baby in the back safely secured in the car seat. The injured driver is emphatic. “The baby. You need to hide the baby. It’s up to you to keep the baby safe.” She complies, but while hiding from someone approaching, she witnesses a uniformed man shoot the passengers. No survivors. Without her car, purse, and phone, she flees, managing to find a way to contact close friend/ex-cop/PI Ben Holiday who puts her in touch with Michael Maddox, tech wiz. Together they cross the country unsure about who or why they are being pursued, but determined to find out.
This drama is well-written with some nail-biting suspense, close calls, baby diapers, and puppy angst. Kathi’s signature writing style is on full display with vivid descriptions, well-developed characters, and entertaining banter, and this time with a third-person narrative. She has strayed from the traditional cozy formula in this book; it is more of a suspense thriller with the accident, the murders, the murderer, victims’ and child’s identity and backstory all known elements. It’s the details, the why, the justice, and even a few surprises that kept me totally engaged. In between evading the various pursuers, Harper and Michael exchange insights about family, personal traumas, and feelings opening up to a budding…friendship? Romance? Family always plays a part in Daley’s books, so when their adventure returns them to Moosehead, Minnesota, readers get more compelling insights into the dynamics of siblings, good and challenging. And for me…the perfect end!
A great start to this first in a series, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ms. Daley always has strong, likable characters that you can’t help but get pulled into the story. Harper while hunting for a hurt puppy finds a car accident with a man, woman and baby. The man tells her to save the baby and from here the story has twists and turns that wrap you up in the mystery. I will definitely continue on with this series and eagerly await the next in this series.
I got into the book the minute I started reading and could not put it down until I was finished. Characters were likable, the mystery had me guessing from the start and the romance was just enough to not be the focus of the story. Can’t wait to read the next book in this brand-new series.
Harper is the first book in what looks to be like an awesome series if this book is any indication of what’s to come. The first book is a story of a strong woman with a heart of gold whom you will come to love and will totally become immersed in her story. Her story is a romantic suspense with some great characters and a well developed plot. A plot that involves drama, suspense, murder, romance, and sleuthing involving a baby, a puppy, criminals, good friends, and of course the main character, Harper. A story that is a definite page turner and which I highly recommend.
Harper is the first book in a new series. I really enjoyed Harper and Michael’s story. The baby automatically brings out high emotions, and this story kept me hooked until the end. I definitely recommend it.
This is the first book in the new Hathaway Sisters Mystery series.
Six months after the death of her fiance, Harper Hathaway is traveling back to her hometown of Moosehead, Minnesota, which she left 14 years ago and hadn’t returned. She is looking forward to spending time with her mother, grandmother, and four sisters. Suddenly a dog runs out into the road, causing Harper to drive into a ditch. She gets out of the car to check on the dog. She sees the dog limp down an embankment and into the dense forest. Then she notices a car which had been in a recent accident. The male driver was badly injured, the female passenger appeared to be dead, and a baby in a car seat in the back seat that appeared to be awake and unharmed. Dangerous circumstances require Harper to run and hide with the baby and the dog. Along with the assistance of her friends and Michael Maddox, a cyber security consultant and software developer, Harper sets out on a perilous journey to seek answers, safety, and justice for the victims of the crash.
This fast-paced story is filled with danger, adventure, suspense, romance, love, friendship, family, heart-warming moments, and much more. As always, Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable and quick read. I look forward to future stories involving the Hathaway sisters.
Harper ( A Hathaway Sister Mystery -Book #1 )
By; Kathi Daley
Harper is book one in a brand new cozy series by Kathi Daley in A Hathaway Sister Mystery. I believe Harper is absolutely Ms. Daley’s best yet. It has mystery, suspense, and action throughout the book. I was grabbed at the start and could not put it down. I was not disappointed. Harper is the main character and trouble seems to find her. The story also involves a baby and a puppy, which I thinks adds to the story. Harper gets involved in a mystery that will take you on an adventure of your life across country. I absolutely loved Harper and cannot wait for book two.
In this first book of the series we are introduced to Harper, a young woman who set out to find herself when she turned eighteen. It’s fourteen years later and she is headed back home to find herself again. When she almost hits a dog on her travels towards home she comes across a wrecked car. The driver of the car instructs her to take the baby that is in the back and to not trust anyone. Going on instincts alone she takes the baby and calls a friend for help in finding out what the two people in the wrecked car had to be afraid of. Her friend Ben sets her up with a friend of his named Michael and the two start on a journey into figuring out what left a baby motherless and where a mystery ledger can be found. Follow along as the two take a trip cross country to answer the questions that have plagued them both from the beginning. Will they be able to come to satisfactory conclusion or will Harper end up the run for the rest of her life? This was a great start to what I hope is a long running series. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and look forward to learning more about them in future books.
Suspenseful and Intriguing Page Turner
The Hathaway Sisters: Harper is the debut novel in Kathi Daley’s Family Ties series, and is a fast-paced page-turner filled with mystery, action, adventure, and intrigue. This intricately woven tale grabbed my attention on the first page and kept me hooked until the end. Ms. Daley is very talented in creating suspense and tension with her written words, and her descriptive writing made me feel like I was there participating in the action as it unfolded. The storyline is well thought out, and the affable characters are well developed.
Harper Hathaway was raised in Moosehead, Minnesota with her four sisters. As soon as she graduated from high school, she joined the Army. After three tours, she decided it was time for a change, and thought about going home, but when she met Eric Palmer, she decided to follow him to San Diego. Eric was a scuba-diving instructor who enjoyed treasure hunting, and they traveled from one adventure to another. They became engaged, and she thought they had a bright future together – until tragedy struck six months ago and he was killed while diving on a wreck in Cozumel. Harper found herself lost and lonely, and after being gone for fourteen years, decides to return to Moosehead. When a puppy darts in front of her vehicle, she loses control and slides into a drainage ditch. Uninjured, but shaken up, she searches for the dog, and when she finds him, he leads her to a wrecked car, with an unconscious man, a dead woman, and a tiny baby inside. After Harper removes the baby from the car, the driver regains consciousness and tells her she needs to hide the baby and to trust no one. When another car arrives at the accident scene, for reasons unknown, she grabs the diaper bag, and with the puppy following her, searches for a place to hide. After gunshots ring out and overhearing a phone conversation, Harper knows hiding was the right decision and that she is in grave danger. With her vehicle disabled, no identification, money, or phone, Harper searches for shelter and decides she’ll call her high school friend, Holly Thompson’s husband, Ben Holiday, a former policeman turned private investigator, who lives in Moosehead as soon as she finds a working telephone. After hearing her story, Ben fears for her safety and arranges for his friend, Michael Maddox, who just happens to be in California, to pick up Harper and the baby and protect them from the powerful men intent for locating the infant. Harper is determined to do everything in her power to protect the baby and ensure she has a good life. Harper and Michael are attracted to each other, but their top priority is the infant’s safety.
