Nicole has made more mistakes in the last six months than most people make in a lifetime. She got involved with an evil organization and found out too late just how terrible they are. Now everyone’s out to kill her: the scientists, the dragons, and perhaps most of all, her former lover.Living among the dragons wasn’t supposed to be easy, but it was supposed to be safe. She didn’t realize just how … didn’t realize just how long they can hold grudges though.
Lee doesn’t have time for drama. He doesn’t have time for much of anything anymore. He’s too busy trying to figure out how the dragons can finally break free from the oppressive forces that keep sending danger their way.
He needs a break.
A vacation.
Anything.
He doesn’t know what he needs, but it’s certainly not Nicole.
Not her.
Not the betrayer.
When the past comes back to haunt them, Lee and Nicole are forced to go head-to-head, and Lee isn’t sure if he’s going to make it out of this in one piece. If Nicole doesn’t kill him, she just might break his heart.

Nicole and Lee fell in love in college but everything changed when he shared the secrets he was hiding. When he told her he was a dragon shifter and that they were fated mates, Nicole pushed him away. She wasn’t ready at 19 to be the shifter equivalent of married. Lee was heartbroken because he knew they were mates and he thought her refusal meant either there was someone else or she hated shifters. He sadly let her go. Now it is several years later when they meet up again. Nicole was stuck on Dragon Island helping out dragons in penance for the bad decisions she made. She accepted a job with Lucky thinking that their mission was helping shifters but soon learned that they planned to hurt them. Once she learned the truth, she turned on her co-worker so when the dragons captured her, they kept her around to keep an eye on her. Nicole feels very guilty about her choices and feels that almost everyone around her hates her. When Lee walks into the bakery that she helps out in, she is destroyed by the fact he walked away without talking to her. When a traumatized tiger shifter enters the bakery afterward and blames her for all the bad things that happened to him, she feels that she deserves his hatred. She is resigned to the fact that he means to kill her in revenge. She is very shocked when Lee comes to her rescue.
Lee was a mess when Arisa pushed him away. He thought that he had lost his chance for a mate and that she never really loved him. When he saw her at the bakery, he was shocked by all the changes in her and the strength of the feelings he still had. He walked away passing the tiger on the way out. The tiger’s behavior bothered his dragon so he hung around to check out what he was planning to do. When the tiger sprang at Arisa, Lee charged to the rescue. Now that he has gotten close enough to Arisa to really see her, he realizes that she really despises herself and feels worthless. He starts to wonder if he made a mistake in walking away from her all those years ago and that he should have stayed and fought for her.

A good story. We stay in Nicole’s head a lot in this story. She has a lot on her mind. She finely figures it out. Her mate is there for her. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is book four of The Fablestone Clan and the main characters are Nicole and Lee. Nicole got herself mixed up on the wrong side of an evil organisation called Lucky and has finally made her way out, but not exactly on her own terms. She was stopped after shooting a drugged dart at one of the dragons in the forest, then also at the woman she had accompanied from Lucky, she thought to help dragons, not hurt them. Now she is stuck living with the dragons of Fablestone, who all hate her for what they believe she has done, even though she had only worked for this evil organisation for a week, other than some separate consultation work she also did. She is working in the back of the local bakery, hidden from sight, doing all the jobs no one else wants to do and with no pay. She is lucky to have been taken in by one of the older female dragons and given a room of her own to stay in. It seems none of the dragons are keen to forgive her or forget her part in the organisation, that had taken some of their own, as well as other shifters. Lucky liked to have its scientists experiment on shifters and dragons in particular.
When the dragon clan set out to rescue some of their own, they brought back some other shifters who were also experimented upon and can’t go back to their old lives, without putting their families in danger. Some of these other shifters have managed to settle in with the dragon community, but not all of them. Her former lover Lee is in this clan, but has been too busy to deal with any drama over meeting her again, as he tries to find a way of stopping the evil forces that keep on coming for them all. When he runs into her by accident he walks straight back out again, but the odd behaviour of one of the rescued shifters catches his attention. It seems he is going to have to deal with Nicole now, whether he wanted to or not, instead of finally getting away to his cabin for a bit of a break as he wanted. She broke his heart years ago when he revealed his true self and his love for her, but walking away might not have been the best decision then and it certainly won’t help now. Their past and the issues they have from that time, will have to be resolved, for them to work together on the much bigger challenge facing them all from the numerous Lucky labs and offices around the world, and the messages they are putting out online. Any actions the dragons take, will need to be considered against Lucky’s onslaught of messages and videos online, promoting a cure for shifter ails, but in reality being responsible for all the strange viruses infecting shifters to begin with! Still more to come in the series and the dragon’s battle against Lucky. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Someone once told me that if you got out on a wrong exit, you just drive back onto the highway. You don’t give up and buy a house to live there. This story reminds me of that truth

I have loved every book in this series so far. Nicole can’t win for losing. My heart goes out to her because no one seems to give a flying flip what has happened to her and how she got where she is. Lee and Nicole were a couple through school. When he finally told her he was a dragon shifter and she was his mate, she did what most 19 year olds would do and freaked out. So for years he’s been demonizing her in his mind and never tried to understand or talk to her about it. It broke her heart. Fast forward, she meets a man she thinks loves her, Micah, and after a lengthy dating period finds out he’s married. It broke her heart. She get what she thinks is the perfect job, with Lucky, helping sick dragons and finds out that was all a lie. Lucky wants to kill her. The dragons want to punish her. Lee wants to avoid her and a lion shifter tries to kill her. If it weren’t for bad luck she’d have no luck at all. With the way everyone feels about her (without knowing her) and treats her, she’s ready to just give up. Lee may just be the one to save her again and give her a reason to live. Nicole got involved with the wrong people and now everyone is out to kill her. She is just trying to survive and its not easy when you have dragons, scientists, your ex and everyone after you. No one has time for this and neither does Lee. He just wants a break from everything and wants nothing to do with Nicole. But fates are throwing them in each other paths and helping each other might be the only way they will stay alive. Is Nicole going to get him killed or will she just break his heart all over again or by some miracle will they get their happily ever after. Great story and very fast paced.

Nicole was working in the bakery, stocking shelves in the back, when a customer came in. No one was up front to wait on him, so brushed off her apron and walked into the room. She started in shock as Lee stood there. They had met in college and he had eventually asked her to marry him. She had said no – and now he is looking at her as if he never loved her at all. He was her first kiss, her first everything, and she just wasn’t ready back then; so he left. Ten years, and her heart is still breaking.
Sometime later, the bell rang again and she hoped he had come back. But it was a stranger with shifty eyes, not human, but not a dragon either. The man snarls a little at her and filled the doorway, blocking the exit. She wouldn’t be allowed to leave this shop. She remembered her job at “Lucky” where she thought she was saving sick dragons. Actually, they were hunting them to kill them, hurt them, or perform experiments on them. Instead of making the world a better place, she was destroying an important part of it. She was supposed to be killed along with the dragon they would find in the woods. But the dragon captured her instead and took her to Fablestone, one of the dragon clans in Westbridge Forest. After 3 months, the dragons there still hate her, but she is safe. So this man she now figures is a cat shifter rescued from Lucky’s wants to make her pay for what he endured, even though she only worked there for one week and did not hurt anyone. She didn’t know they were evil. The man starts to scream at her about his ruined life, he roars as she drops behind the counter, and she hears his clothes tearing as he shifts and prepares to kill her.
Lee saw Reece coming to the bakery as he left. He had warned people Reece needed help, something wasn’t right with him. So Lee didn’t leave; he circled around and came back to the bakery. His mind kept bringing back thoughts of the past, when his mate rejected him. He was so sure she would say yes. So he walked away and never contacted her again. But he can’t let Reece do something stupid. Tensions are too high right now. He scents anger and pain from Reece; but Nicole smells sad, like resigned to her fate? When he hears Reece’s tiger roar, he shifts and crashes into the building to stop him.
This book was fantastic, not only because it was well-written with a great story line, but because the author focuses on the characters and what they are feeling and suffering. The detail is really excellent and brings the whole thing to life. Now the question is, can Nicole and Lee get through 10 years of pain and feelings of desertion and betrayal? Can they work together to save the shifters? Can they find the love they foolishly gave up?
Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Nicole is in danger she was a target as well as the shifter, they were to be killed in the woods. Lee is Nicole’s first love, Lee does not want to deal with Nicole. There is a lot of action, twist and turns, passion, lust and chemistry that is off the charts.

Well worth reading!
Nicole has been with the clan since she was captured while trying to harm a dragon. She is depressed and feels unworthy for what she has done. Ten years ago, she was in love with Lee but when she refused his proposal he left and she never saw him again. When someone tries to attack her while she is working, he rushes in to save her. They still have their connection but do not know if they can get back what they once had.

The scenes are so graphically detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that feels like you’re right there with them. Amazing job Sophie, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Well-written story of woman who is tricked to hurt shifters and even her unknown mate. The characters in this story are just as unforgiving as most people are in real life if people’s bad choices. Can she undo those choices before they become deadly to all those she still holds dear. Good read
