When the government has assumed something is true—even if it is false—is there any way to escape it? There are ethical values that every person should have; however, what happens when the ones who you are supposed to trust, suddenly become the morally unethical? In a country ruled by laws that govern the morality of an individual, the laws have become skewed and one man finds himself on the run from forces that make crimes disappear. Thompson has an interesting conspiracy novel that twists and turns with every discovery, leaving the reader waiting for the next drop of the hat.
Ramon is an inmate who has been sentenced for execution; even though his pleas of innocence have gone ignored. As the drugs are administered, he thinks to himself—this is it for me. While everyone in the booth outside is watching his death, his eyes connect with Lena, a reporter for a local newspaper in Austin, before he unwillingly relinquishes the hold on his life. It comes as a shock to Ramon to find himself alive and strapped down to a table in a white room, being used for experimentations by what he assumes to be the government—all while everyone else in the world thinks he is a dead man. Ramon’s faith that he has been given a second chance is renewed when someone within the government’s operations team comes to his aid. Knowing that it may very well be a suicide mission, Ramon has no other option than to run for his life and hope that he can find someone to help before they can eliminate the threat for good.
Thompson has a superb story-line, filled with creativity, originality and intriguing characters. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow. There is action and mystery at every turn, mixed with true crime and conspiracy. Thompson creates a sense of panic that leads up to a very detrimental plot meant to scare the reader into believing that the government can be responsible for mass internal destruction. The story appears to be written fairly well. Since this review compliments the audiobook, Tiedemann provides wonderful voice relay for all of the characters within the story. His narration makes the novel even more enjoyable for the reader. If you are a reader of military thrillers, mystery and true crime, this may be perfect for you.

From the moment I began reading this book, starting with the homeless man convinced there were aliens on his street, I knew I would be settling in for a great read. Thompson brought the scenes and the characters to life in this thoroughly engrossing thriller. The underlying plot of the book, that death row inmates are smuggled out of the execution chamber after being pronounced dead, captivated my imagination.
Ramon, falsely convicted of murder, sentenced to death, and executed, wakes up to find himself in an environment that is even more alien than prison. His escape from this human laboratory and desperate fight for survival as the perpetrators of the experiments seek to silence him is fraught with suspense.
I enjoyed the author’s writing style, his attention to detail as he developed the plot, his ability to get inside the heads of both the heroes and the villains.
