Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake . . . even more than usual. She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob, of course) are in Paris, where Cass’s parents are filming their TV show about the world’s most haunted cities. Sure, it’s fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there’s true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs. When Cass accidentally awakens … accidentally awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter — and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger.
And if Cass fails, the force she’s unleashed could haunt the city forever.

A delightful Ghost story… !
Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab
Cassidy “Cassie” Blake is a survivor. She was saved from an accident by a ghost named Jacob. Note that ghosts cannot touch or hold living people in concept, but Jacob did the impossible somehow. He saved her from drowning in an icy lake.
Unknowingly at first, Cassie did not realize Jacob was a ghost until later on when no one else acknowledges him. And so it goes, Jacob ended up being her sidekick ghost partner/companion linked together from that moment on, as Cassie discovers that she comes back to the living with extraordinary power – the ability to see the supernatural by entering the Veil.
Together, they have rules on what their friendship consists of, and it’s numbered like Rule # 9: Ghost-watching is a two-person sport, or Rule #6: Friends don’t leave friends in the dark. With those rules, these two partners would enter another realm, the Veil, where ghosts exist but, on repeat, unable to leave the last traumatic space that they went through alive. There are two essential rules regarding the Veil from the start: (1) don’t lose yourself, and (2) don’t die while inside.
The story is from Cassie’s POV. The writing is precise and eerie – very fitting to the mystery of the story. I enjoyed the whole investigative feel of the story. Coincidentally, with Cassie’s parents also paranormal writers, each place that her family visits for their documentary have a ghost present. It is an excellent documentary concept because instead of staying at a dull beach house, Cassie, along with Grim (her cat), Jacob, and her parents, are now traveling around the world searching for ghosts and paranormal activity. This trip would take them to three of the biggest cities in the world, filled with curious and somewhat dangerous adventures!
Note: the books need not be read in sequence since the author summarizes things for readers who jump in the middle. But if you are like me, who would rather find out these past details on your own, I highly suggest you read it in sequence to keep the pace as you go through the rest of the series.
Tunnel of Bones (Book 2) brings Cassidy and her family from Scotland to Paris, France, for another documentary segment.
This time, Cassie unknowingly “disturbs” a poltergeist’s home when they visited The Catacombs, which later causes the Blake family trouble. Now, ghosts, Cassie understands since she already knows what to do, but a poltergeist – is a whole new lesson in ghost hunting. These entities may be ghosts, but they are different in that they are more powerful, can operate outside the Veil, and a few more details. Good thing she has Jacob and a “dial-a-friend” from Book 1 to help her find a way to defeat the poltergeist before it is too late.
On another side of the story, Cassie and Jacob’s relationship grows – for good or bad? It was not immediately apparent. Too many doubts and newfound developments make Cassie fearful of what Jacob is turning into, basing on their co-dependent link. Plus, Cassie is still waiting for Jacob to tell her his past. This story comes out only at the absolute end of the book.
One significant change I noticed in this book is more humor, and comedic banter injected in the scenes between Cassie and Jacob. There is a shift in their friendship – towards honesty and trust as Cassie’s and Jacob’s abilities grow and evolve beyond their comprehension. I believe this will continue to the next book as both main characters get more comfortable and experience many “life-changing” moments as their links strengthen with each adventure.
This is Cassidy’s continuing story. This time they are in Paris. Cassidy has awakened a poltergeist. Much like the first book this book is great. I like this book, I like books where people can talk to ghosts. Seeing as Cassidy has a ghost bff, it’s perfect huh. I can’t wait to read the final book in this series.
Cassidy and Jacob head to Paris to film the next installment of the ghost hunters show. While in the crypts, they come across their new mystery will lead them on an adventure throughout Paris. I am a big fan of anything set in Paris and loved the setting descriptions that Victoria Schwab wrote into the story. In this second book, we also learn more about Cassidy and Jacob’s friendship which gave me a deeper understanding of them. Where will their friendship and adventures take them next?
Paris….the place all lovers dream of visiting one day. The vivid descriptions and language used took me back to the time I myself visited.
In this and it’s prequel too, I love that the settings used by the author were real places! Perhaps that is why I am loving this series so much .
Tunnel of Bones
(Cassidy Blake #2)
by Victoria Schwab
This time Cassidy’s parents are going to Paris to shoot their ghost hunting show. Little do they know that their daughter sees and talks to ghosts and that Jacob is around them a lot and he is definitely a ghost. While in Paris, Cass and Jacob find ghostly trouble on their own or it finds them! A poltergeist decides to follow them and cause trouble. But it doesn’t want to stop at trouble, it wants to harm or worse! Definitely a good and suspenseful read! Made for middle grade, and adults that like good stories too!
I’m really enjoying this middle grade series. I love Cassidy and her friendship with Jacob.
Jacob seems to be changing, getting stronger in this book so I’m really interested to see where his character goes from here.
I loved the setting was in Paris and the creepiness of the Catacombs. I really like that they had to deal with a different type of spirit than the one in City of Ghosts.
I’m loving this series <3
Cass and Jacob are in Paris. Her parents are filming the show and tries no to get into too much trouble. 🙂 Accidentally she wakes up a very strong ghost, a poltergeist. These kinds of ghosts are especially strong, they can cause all kinds of mayhem in the real world and the kind that she can't just send on. She has to rely on her skill and help her new friend to find a way to get rid of him before he makes any more damage.
In Tunnel of Bones, the stakes are higher, the ghosts are worse and the intensity is turned all the way up. I love reading it, I just devoured it in one sitting, it's one hell of a book and I can't wait to read more! 🙂
Even though this sequel isn’t as good as the first novel, I’m still interested in reading the third and final novel of the series.

It’s a rare thing when the second book in a series surpasses the first, and this one did just that. The world introduced in the first volume is expanded here, and I enjoyed this new adventure beyond the veil. The author gave us a poltergeist this time around, and that upped the stakes wonderfully. And we got to learn more of Jacob’s backstory. Can’t wait to see how this series ends. I have a sneaking, heartbreaking feeling how things will end, but I’m sure Victoria will find a beautiful way to do it.
Really enjoyed Tunnel of Bones. I loved the Harry Potter references. I took the time to look up the locations she mentions in the book.
This continues to be a good little ghost series, but I admit that I’m at the age where I seriously question some of the decisions being made by Cassidy’s parents. I also felt more sad than creeped out by the ghost story, and I’m offended that I wasn’t eating a chocolate croissant in Paris while reading this.
Really enjoyed listening to this book. Like the first one enjoyed all the characters and new added one.
I wish though we got more of Jacob and his story.
Will be reading book three when it comes out. Highly recommend this book.
