Fact 645 – High heels make great weapons.Somehow, Allie always managed to attrack every sociopath within a 100 click radius. Don’t ask her how she did it. She chalked it up to the unlucky curse that had plagued her all her life. And Sloven the Slayer was no different. Creepy was his middle name. Luckily, her mama had taught her the advantage of a well placed kick. Fact 792 – Allie hated liars, … Fact 792 – Allie hated liars, especially gorgeous ones of the male variety.
After the attempt on her life and her team’s betrayal, she tried to go back to her life, to ignore how lonely she was, to forget the nightmares that plagued her and the face of the one man she still wanted despite his lies. But life was never that simple.
Fact 864 – Good doesn’t always triumph. Sometimes evil just slaps you in the face and steals your popsicle.
It was just one lie.
I am hooked! What could be better in a great science fiction novel than a feisty female mixologist filled with southern charm and the grace of an eight legged cat? Ms. Kay has created a vibrant enchanting universe and cast of lovable, flirty characters. I want to crawl into this series and never leave!~Fairestskyesbooks

Ok, a quick “Cliff’s Notes” review: I loved Frost Kay’s Mixologists and Pirates serial and have no doubt that anyone will too. I read Amber Vial (separately reviewed) a while ago and loved it. My only complaint was that I finished it too quickly and then had to wait. I solved that by reading the remaining episodes of this serial, Emerald Bane, Scarlet Venom, Cyan Toxin, Onyx Elixir and Indigo Alley (Parts 2-6), all at once. It worked perfectly for me as each episode is a pretty quick read so in total these work our to be the equivalent of one long book. And a totally fun book it was indeed. Superbly written, with a great overarching plot, a wonderful lead in Allie Sai (just the sort of kick-a** heroine I adore), a perfect cast from Allie and Blade on down, perfect world-building and, at the end, a great last episode HEA. Definitely recommended.
As an advanced reader, I am giving an honest review of this new and upcoming book.
A new plot unfolds as the story continues. Book four pulled the ending of book three onward while propelling the story into a new direction. Only time will tell if anything or everything will finally work out for a poor southern girl.
Allie has managed to survive her encounter with the dangerous king, but as much as she wishes…she’s not done yet. Allie bears the scars of her encounter, but she carries more than just that. Strange blue marks are marring her skin and only spreading. She’s called it done with the men and their agenda. They lied to her. She believes they all did and wants nothing more to do with any of them. The secret is out, but too bad Allie isn’t. There’s more to come…and whether she likes it or not…she has to buckle up and get ready.
Cyan Toxin is slower to get to the name representation of the story, but when it does…I’m thrilled that all the pieces fall into place. I was raking my head trying to figure out what was happening to Allie, how it came to be and so much more, but the author does a great job answering the questions brewing in my head. I can understand how Allie feels towards the guys, but I have to admit that I’m disappointed that she wants to use a broad brush and paint them all the same. I’m willing to bet her mama would have been disappointed in her as well.
I love the suspense and the drama in this story. It just continues to build and build and it kept me hooked. My disappointments come in when Allie decides to lash out at everyone – Jer, the guys, but then…not so much those at work so much. I get that she’s dealing with the trauma, but it seems she deals differently with the men at work. I didn’t like that she assumes things about Jer. Jer has been there since they met on the ship…Allie should know better and be kinder to her.
All in all, I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I understand that everyone deals with traumatic experiences differently, but I feel that Allie is picking and choosing whom to lash out at. Once again this story ends in a cliffhanger as Sloven drops a bomb on Allie, but I’m more than eager to learn what happens next.
Is it possible for this series to get any more exciting? Book 4 is so intense that I read it in one sitting, but I guess that’s kind of easy to do when it’s under a hundred pages. All the books are page-turners with wonderfully colorful characters that I just can’t get enough! And those cliffhangers – they just keep coming! Some of the events in Book 4 (especially the more twisted ones) are similar to Frost Kay’s medieval fantasy, The Aermian Feuds, but she uses them well in this science fiction tale. I highly recommend both series even if one is in the past and the other in the future!
I read this book in KU. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I don’t care how short these novellas are…I am hooked! I am totally into the storyline, and the characters. I cannot wait for the next one. Thank you Frost Kay for helping me realize that a book doesn’t have to be long, to be awesome.
I am really enjoying the story. I’m just having trouble keeping up with sooo many characters in such short stories.
Have to see where Onyx takes us!
This series is absolutely one of the best series I have ever read!! Fantastic and engaging characters and a storyline that always leaves you wanting more! This book does not disappoint! The trauma that Allie goes through in this book is absolutely heartbreaking and the one who does it to her brings chills just thinking about him. Once again you are left with an epic cliff hanger which leaves you crying like a little girl because you want more and you want it now!! If your not reading this series, you are definitely missing out!!!
Frost Kay has a way this is story that keeps you wanting more! She just loves to leave you with those cliff hangers. Allie. I just love her in this story. So exciting. Cannot wait to read more!!
WOW!
Though this is short it is mity!
Each time I read another instalment of the Mixologist and Pirates series I get pulled in deeper, my feels get shattered, and more, new, exciting, and plot exploding elements are brought to light. Coming off the crazy bomb from that last book, this one takes it to another level. And ending on a bigger, more heart stopping, cliff-hanger! I can’t even right now!
I need the next book, like yesterday, because this time it’s more then just our MC’s life on the line.. her current predicament could cause mass casualties.
This series is must read, and it gets my super high recommendation and my golden stamp of approval.
Happy Reading

Book four of this intriguing series picks up immediately after the events of the last leave off. This was important to me as I was immensely curious as to where the events of this book would go. Frost Kay did not disappoint me in anyway. Though there is a curve ball or two thrown in this book, they make me want to keep reading the series. I truly am enjoying Allie as a character. She is a fighter and though she is shaken to her core in this book, she still keeps fighting. I love that about her, and am cheering her on from the sidelines. If you have enjoyed the other books in this series, then you will definitely enjoy this one.
I love this series and these wonderful characters! But, I don’t love the fact that Ms. Kay leads us up to a cliff and then drops us off!
Allie Sai continues to get into trouble no matter what she does. When she is tasked with taking down the worst serial killer villain the worlds have ever known, she really doesn’t want to do it. But, how can she leave her friends hanging?
This book will have you crying, screaming and throwing your Kindle against the wall at the injustices that Allie has to endure. And, again, that cliffhanger? How can I grab Ms. Kay and shake her until she gives me MORE!!!
There is also the expected snarky dialogue that I have come to love and expect from this series. I can’t wait to see what Allie gets involved in next!
This sci-fi series is the best. The plot is fun, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. Each book is such a quick read! The next one can’t come out fast enough. I would highly recommend this series.
Overall rating: 4.8
This series is definitely a testament to either a readers patience or our desire for sweet torture! The author truly has mastered the art of cliffhangers. I would never call myself a patient person, so the fact that I willingly place myself on the wait lists for each book in this series speaks volumes about this authors creativity and originality. Book four truly had me on the edge, and once again….waiting. The boundaries for being unlucky have moved exponentially for the main character, Allie, complete with shocking surprises for our cliffhanging pleasure! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
