They all thought they were about to die . . . and they were right. Dazy Perrit was an underworld kingpin until a hail of bullets sent him into early retirement. Ben Jensen was a well-connected publisher until a determined gunman severed all his connections. Eugene R. Poor made novelties like exploding cigars until one of them blew him to kingdom come. Only the gourmet sleuth, Nero Wolfe, and his … his sidekick, Archie Goodwin, can solve the deadly equation of murder times three.

I recommend anything Nero Wolfe.
Typical Rex Stouts Nero Wolfe. Always fun to read
The characters Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin are so well written you can see them in your mind’s eye. The characters like routine and the books all provide a routine that makes one feel comfortable in knowing the main characters while they solve crimes.
Rex Stout was a master! I have enjoyed all the Nero Wolfe books – many of them more than once!
All of Rec Stout’s books featuring Nero Wolfe & Archie Goodwin are so good.
I like period stories. The three detective novelettes in this book take place in the mid- forties of the last century and they are very authentic. The characters are especially note worthy. The stories are not especially gruesome; more who done it and how than blood and guts. The book is easy to put aside for a few days and then go back to it …
I love all of Rex Stout’s Archie and Nero Wolfe series. And I enjoy novella length writing. So this book is top of the list. No violence, (well there is a murder, but we don’t get a lot of details and blood!) no suspense, just a well thought out plot and intelligent writing.
There is no such thing as a bad Nero Wolfe novel. This is a collection of three early novellas on a theme of murder threats carried out leaving Wolfe to figure it all out, even if he also receives a death threat. Archie even spends some time in uniform. He is, after all, a U.S. Army major and WWII is winding down throughout these novellas. …
Everything by Rex Stout was superb.
