The first rule about fight club is you don’t talk about fight club.Chuck Palahniuk showed himself to be his generation’s most visionary satirist in this, his first book. Fight Club’s estranged narrator leaves his lackluster job when he comes under the thrall of Tyler Durden, an enigmatic young man who holds secret after-hours boxing matches in the basement of bars. There, two men fight “as long … two men fight “as long as they have to.” This is a gloriously original work that exposes the darkness at the core of our modern world.

I read this book after seeing the movie, so I knew the outcome already…but I still loved this book. Palahniuk takes the reader on an adventure into the brain of a maniac. Strap on your seat belts and prepare for a nonstop ride!
I can’t possibly speak highly enough of Palahniuk’s work. I know this was a movie and most people know it from that, but there are some very distinct differences that readers should not miss out on. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this, or any of Chuck’s work, especially if you’re a novice writer looking to read great lit!
The first rule about Fight Club should be everyone should read Fight Club. This book grabbed me by the throat and turned it’s pages for me as I read and read into the early morning. It was an inspiration in crafting a story with characters you normally didn’t read about, and from a fresh perspective. This book broke new ground for me and inspired …
Mind blowing dark comedy at it’s finest!
Loved the movie, had read most other CP books. Decided to circle back to this one. Was not disappointed.
This book is a can of Alphabet soup gone wrong. Utterly brilliant!
From a writing standpoint, it influenced how I approach some of my prose. People like to say first-person present tense is stilted and what not, but not in this book. In Fight Club it’s visceral, timely and meshes with the past tense. It gives permission to be creative in a different way.
From a reader standpoint, it’s great violence. The …
The book is better, which is saying something because the movie is amazing
rule #1: you don’t talk about fight club
Without doubt this book breaks new ground in all respects so much so, its sort of a genre to itself. Engaging, evocative and unusual, the plot evolves continually along with the characters. Like many books, the film doesn’t do it justice.
“.. Project Mayhem will break up civilization so we can make something better out of the world..”a …
Wow. The unique exploration of ideas with Palahniuk’s prose is awesome. The fragmented way it’s spliced together like the movie reels Tyler cuts with porn. I’ve annotated my copy so it looks like it’s bleeding – a study in pithy economy. It’s awesome. But the fragmentation extends into the narrative; it’s a bit disjointed making me feel confused …
Chuck Palahniuk is weird. No skirting around that, he just is. But I really like his style.
The unnamed protagonist in Fight Club, suffering from insomnia, seeks refuge by joining many support groups, impersonating a seriously ill person of that assembly. When he meets Tyler Durden, we eventually discover that our protagonist has been slowly …
Was never a big reader growing up, was stuck on a strict list of exactly what I liked. When I first readnfuthtbvlub, of course after the movie I was in awe. Tgisbwasba page turner. Definitely had to keep focus or you will get lost in the later chapters. Fight club made me a major Chuck fan. The way he writes is just so different and addictive.
a masterpiece.
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (1996)
When a man complains of insomnia, his doctor advises him to attend a support group to experience real suffering, like Fight Club.

Fight Club
If you’ve never watched this movie, I feel sorry for you.
I know I keep saying this about a lot of books I review, but this is genuinely one of my favourites I’ve ever read. I think I have a thing for characters who are insane.
From its opening line, the book sells you into the story. Our nameless narrator – let’s call him Jack – is an insomniac …
The only book I’ve ever read in one sitting. It is phenomenal, enough said.
I’ve always wanted to read this because well the first rule about fight club is you don’t talk about fight club. I just had trouble focusing on it. The idea is awesome and I think it could have been amazing. I just didn’t like it.
This is one of my favorite books. It’s just crazy. Read it.
For a debut, this novel is stunning. Palahniuk’s narrative voice is confident and funny. The story starts strong but loses steam about 2/3 of the way through, mainly because the big “a-ha!” moment comes way too early and in a very predictable way. If the sheer amount of times the narrator says “I know this because Tyler knows this” isn’t a …
