I see the good in everyone. My heart bleeds for the people who get a bad rap and no shot at redemption. Being a defense lawyer in a small town is not easy–especially when I am defending the criminals they loathe. And then, wouldn’t you know it. I attract the attention of the hottest cop in the entire town. He’s smart, rugged, and completely irresistible. But there’s one problem…Luke Hudson … problem…
Luke Hudson is running for sheriff. And he would be a good sheriff. This man never backs down. He sees the law in black and white–right or wrong. I see all the shades of gray in between. Now, with the election looming and our relationship heating up, everything implodes.
Luke’s given a choice: it’s either me or his dream job.
And all I want is for him to choose me.

I enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to reading more from Lea Coll.
Enjoyed
The story line was good, confusing at times. There was no necessity for explicit sex.
Interesting romance/suspense
Emma is a hardworking public defender and she moves back to a little town for a temporary basis. She is trying her best to fit into the small town and that is when she meets the cop – Luke. Luke comes across as stubborn. But with his ambitions to become the next sheriff and the politics involved, his character has been etched well.
The small town and the opposite characters are very well brought out in the cute romance/suspense. Liked it.
Choose Me by Lea Coll was a cute read. I loved the small-town feel of the story (especially because I knew the setting). I loved the struggle that the main character, Emma, felt between the pull of the city (and anonymity) and a small-town. I also really loved Luke and his commitment to his town and love for making his community better. I did struggle a bit, and felt that Luke came across as a little immature at times. The characters were quick to jump to feelings a little more than I like.
As a whole, I enjoyed Choose Me. I will certainly be on the lookout for more from Lea Coll.
Lea Coll, ‘Ms Lawyer’, Eastern Shore Series.
As an ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 3,5 stars (of 5).
In general: Complicated love between two law enforcers.
Main characters:
– Emma Ryan.
Public defender in Baltimore. She is temporarily transferred to Chestertown to replace a colleague on maternity leave.
Emma liked to be alone in Baltimore, but in the little city Chestertown people want to know each other, so Emma quickly has friends like Ashley (her boss), Stella (a journalist) and Samantha (manager of a bakery).
– Luke Hudson.
Police sergeant. Grown up in the countryside near Chestertown. He wants to become the new sheriff in the little town.
Emma and Luke meet when Emma is harassed by the angry boyfriend of an client. Luke helps her. They like each other, but a deeper relationship becomes difficult by their situation: Luke campaigning for sheriff against an opponent who plays dirty and Emma only living and working temporarily in Chestertown.
They keep meeting: Emma is threatened and attacked by an unknown person while Luke investigates her case. The author, Lea Coll, describes how their relationship develops. For me the story was well written, but not quite credible: Luke is stubborn and deeply in love but twice breaks up with Emma without fighting for her and Emma too is deeply in love with him, is clever and assertive but keeps silent for a rather long time after the second break up.
All in all: an interesting book to read, but some doubts about the logic of the complications in the plot.
R. Huiszoon.
Emma never felt comfortable in her small town. Now, after living and working in the city for a long time, she is send to Chestertown to fill for a public defender in maternal leave. And she can’t help but fall for the small town, their people and a certain good looking cop. But will they have a chance when she doesn’t intent to stay in town and he is focused in win the Sheriff’s elections? A funny and hot story.
There’s a lot more to this book than the blurb leads you to believe. It suggests that Emma is a lot less honest than I found her in the book and it says nothing about the mystery she gets tangled up in that Luke needs to investigate. I liked Luke and Emma, and enjoyed watching the pair dance around each other trying to protect themselves while falling for each other. The secondary cast is dynamic enough to spark my interest in reading more about this small town and quirky characters that inhabit it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
I was intrigued when I read the blurb but I didn’t feel that the book lived up to it. I didn’t like Luke and thought that Emma should have been a little tougher especially being a lawyer and all..Yeah getting off the train.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) Voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
