A female carpenter needs a husband so she can get her contractor’s license back… Can Jeri and Sawyer navigate the minefield of a pretend marriage before their feelings become real?Jeri Bell lost everything when her former construction manager betrayed her—her company, her crew, and her contractor’s license. She’s been hired to build dog enclosures at Last Chance Ranch, and she needs the job and … needs the job and loves the atmosphere. But when the ranch’s grant funding might dry up if she can’t provide her license, she’s desperate for a solution.
The cowboy living in the cabin next door, Sawyer Smith, doesn’t want to go visit his perfectly paired-off family, but it’s hard to find a date when he spends all his time with ranch animals. So he walks next door, a proposition in his back pocket for the beautiful brunette who’s come to the ranch and caught his eye.
Jeri readily agrees—maybe a little too fast—and after a successful party where they’ve fooled his family that they’re a happy couple, she convinces him to stop by the courthouse and tie the knot so she can get her contractor’s license back.
For the ranch, they agree. Just for a few months, they say. After all, the ranch would die without the grant money, and Jeri really is the best contractor there is.
As Sawyer and Jeri spend more time together, she starts to develop real feelings for him, which scares her. Hasn’t she already done this once? Fallen for a man only to lose everything? Yes. Yes, she has. Can she risk her heart—and her business—again?

Having all of these storylines overlap by months is a bit different. You think you are one place in the overarching story but then find out you are somewhere else. However , it didn’t really detract from these characters and their story. I liked the difficulties and challenges they had to work through. I’m excited to read more in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Jeri tends to jump into marriages on a whim. She asks Sawyer to marry her so she can get her contractors license. Then she divorces him. She loves him but can’t make up her mind about a real marriage because of her first marriage. Sawyer is patient as he loves her and wants her as a real wife..You have to read this to see all the goings on in the life of these two. I recommend this book to all who love a great read.
Always enjoy her books
Welcome back to Second Chance Ranch where all man and beasts are given another chance. This time Jeri needs a new name to apply for her contractor’s license and since she had a make believe marriage years ago that has followed her with regrets all these years was not enough to tell her they were not a good choice, she decides to ask a favor of Sawyer to marry her for his name only. The thing was he was falling for her the entire time and while waiting on the license he tells her he loves her and they start living as man and wife and Sawyer is happy. But Jeri decides it is not what she wants and after three weeks she is ready to get the divorce going and finally stops coming over and Sawyer is living with his heart ripped into. Can Jeri get her heart where it needs to be before she looses Sawyer for good? It takes both of them individually praying asking for help from God for them to find a way to get back on the right track. Another great story from Liz Isaacson.
Jeri & Sawyer are two characters who have lived and made choices that affected their lives in different ways. They are drawn to each other from the start even though they didn’t know they were missing something in their life. Like Liz Isaacson’s books they must deal with some kind of trial and tribulation before they get to happy ever after. I like this series with older characters who are still open to love. I like this book, Jeri seems to leap before looking and Sawyer wants to be loved and accepted so he just goes along with her. This book could have ended differently but it is a Liz Isaacson book and happy ever after is what she does. Good read, really enjoyed it.
What ever this lady writes has been AWESOME!!!
It is hard to trust anyone when you have been badly burned in a relationship. This story is a wonderful vision of the many steps it takes to trust again. I loved it, and hope you give it a try!
I absolutely love Liz Isaacson, I love her writings and the series she always seems to create beginning with a single novel. In “Her Last Make-Believe Marriage,” we find two middle aged adults- different from the typical storyline- who have both been burned by previous relationships and who also would like nothing to do with another relationship or love. However, they both wind up at “Last Chance Ranch,” where anything is possible with faith the size of a mustered seed. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with all of it’s wonderful characters, and I would have easily given it a five if only it would not have had so many different storylines woven into one. The initial characters and their journey was more than enough to keep readers engaged and interested, we did not need the other three or four massed in. I still recommend this novel as a quick and easy read, and just like with any of Ms. Isaacson’s other novels- you will not be disappointed.
Liz Isaacson has written a romance about a slightly older couple, around 40 years old. The characters are well-developed. I must admit that I liked Sawyer better than Jeri. She had made, in my opinion, a horrible choice earlier in her life; and that had to be taken care of before she could really let herself love Sawyer. I enjoy the setting of Last Chance Ranch, a place for animals in need; and I like to read about cowboys. There is a sweet HEA. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
I love the Last Chance Ranch! Once again Liz takes us to the Last Chance Ranch where imperfect and hurting people come to heal and rebuild their lives. Sawyer and Jeri have a sweet love story that begins out of desperation but ends in lasting love. I think it’s great that the characters are mature and realistic. Don’t miss this sweet romance!
The path to true love isn’t smooth, but persistence pays off in the long run.
Sawyer Smith was hired as a multi-skilled cowboy at Last Chance Ranch seven years ago by Gramps, the original owner. Now that Scarlett, Gramps’ granddaughter, owns the ranch she is working to restore and enlarge the ranch to serve as an animal rescue facility. She hires Jeri Bell as the general contractor to handle the construction projects, with the use of an on-site cabin as part of the agreement. Sawyer lives in the cabin next door, but it isn’t until Jeri accidentally goes into his cabin instead of her own that their attraction for one another becomes obvious.
Both are mature and the sparks between the two are immediate, but Jeri is coming off of a bad marriage and an even worse engagement. Her heart has been broken and her business destroyed so she needs to overcome her reluctance to get involved with another man. Until she realizes she needs him to help her restart his construction career. They have issues to work out but, after Jeri melts down, she needs to address her past before she can move forward with her career and her relationship with Sawyer.
I loved the fact that Jeri recognized that she had issues that she needed to face. It’s sometimes difficult to accept that just continuing doing what you’ve been doing isn’t going to get you where you want to be. Sometimes we have to leave our comfort zone.
I received a copy of this book as an ARC from the author. The opinion below is my own. This is the third book in the series and some of the events run parallel to the other two books.
A story about how the Lord gives us second chances and how we should do the same. This story grabbed me from the start and kept me intrigued until the very end. Loved how there was forgiveness, reconciliation and starting over. Great series.
I really enjoyed this love story of Sawyer & Jeri. I love that GOD is our reconciler & this book is all about reconciliation. And I like that it is also about forgiveness. And I like that it is about perseverance in hard times.
