From the author of Trust No One Nothing hurts like the truth. Doctor Rowan Dupont knows a serial killer is coming for her. Julian Addington has been waiting. Watching. And it’s only a matter of time before he strikes. But what Julian doesn’t know is that Rowan is ready for him. And more than anything she wants answers. How well did the depraved killer actually know her mother? And how many lies … mother? And how many lies have been spun in the years since she took her own life?
Working alongside her childhood friend Police Chief Billy Brannigan, Rowan is determined to get to the bottom of her mother’s puzzling suicide once and for all–even if it means exposing an unsettling past. It certainly seems like her family’s Victorian funeral home has borne witness to more than one dark secret, but when a recent double homicide leads to an even grislier discovery, separating the truth from the lies might be the last thing Rowan does.

Debra Webb continues the series about the people of Winchester, Tennessee, with her latest book. I really like the characters she has created for this series but I was a little disappointed in the ending. There were a couple of loose ends that weren’t tied up but I look forward to the next installment.
The Lies We Tell by Debra Webb
The Undertaker’s Daughter #2
Not having read the prequel or book one in this series I do feel I might have been at a disadvantage. We know a serial killer is after her and there are secrets to be learned about the past. As I read I found out that Rowan once worked as a psychiatrist with the Nashville Police Department but left because of her inability to “see” that another psychiatrist was a serial killer. The killer is still on the lose and Rowan has gone back to Winchester to take up the family funeral business while sometimes helping out her buddy police chief Billy Brannigan.
In this story there are several murders but whether or not they are related is unknown for most of the book. Two murders are solved but a few others are not. The FBI makesa an appearance, t here is a kidnapping and torture and a bone pile is found and a romance begins. We learn from a wise woman that both Rowan attracts death and that her mother did, too.
Again, I did feel lost at times and felt there were some strange occurrences that were not explained. I have a feeling that the main psychiatrist serial killer may be a recurring theme in this series until he is caught and also feel other serial killers might pop up from time to time.
Did I like this book? Not sure
Would I read more in the series? Maybe
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin-Mira for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3 Stars
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my fair and honest review.
This is the second book in the series, and although I didn’t read the first book I didn’t have any trouble following along with the storyline. Rowan Dupont has taken over the undertaker job in her hometown, after her fathers murder. She grew up surrounded by death, and it still surrounds her now in the form of series killers. The book was action packed, and full of twists and turns. I love thrillers and this one certainly fits that bill. I found it hard to put this book down, and look forward to reading more of the storys to follow. I would certainly recommend it to those that enjoy thrillers.
This is the 2nd book in the series The Undertaker’s Daughter. It can be read as a stand alone but I don’t suggest it. The Secrets We Bury is the first book and you get so much of the backstory of the characters reading it first. In The Lies We Tell, we catch back up with Doctor Rowan Dupont while she is waiting for Julian Addington to come for her. This story has so many twists and turns and I could not put it down. I can not wait for the next book in the series! This series is a must read if you enjoy thrillers!
A fast paced book that grabbed me from the first page! It is book two in a series and even tho I hadn’t read the previous one I had no problems following the story. I definitely want to go back and read the first one now. I really enjoyed the story and look forward to story number three. Thanks to Netgalley for the early copy
Thank you Debra Webb for the ARC of The Lies We Tell by Debra Webb that I read and reviewed.
What does one say about a book that you finish and run right to the computer and see when the next book in the series comes out and realize you have to wait five months and it is going to be torture to get the answers that you are dying to have? That is how I felt at the end of this book and I loved it.
This is the second book in The Undertaker’s Daughter series and it picked up where the first one ended with Dr. Rowan DuPont trying to find the answers to her mothers death with the help of her best friend and now police chief Billy Brannigan. She also has to be on the lookout for the serial killer who at one time was involved wither her mother and was her former mentor, Julian Eddington who want to kill Rowan for exposing him for the killer that he is.
This book was filled with so much death and so many secrets in Rowan’s life it had my head spinning and I could not put it down. The final twist in the end had my mouth drop and as I said scrabbling to see when the next book comes out because I can’t wait to see where Webb is going to take this series. This book really blew all my thoughts out of the water. This was an excellent read and a great way to end your summer to read to list.
The Lies We Tell by Debra Webb gets five out of five stars from me!
I received an arc copy of this book in return for my honest opinion and review..
This is the second book in the series the first one is the secrets we bury about Rowan Dupont and the journey she goes through finding out her past and even her future well she is running from a man that she cared for and that she thought she knew but in reality he is a horable serial killer who’s killed over 100 people.
In this book it is a complete roller coaster ride of emotions secrets that are unraveled and more secrets unraveled this book will make you think that you have the answers just to turn the other page and be completely stunned Debra Webb is a master storyteller I cannot wait to read the next book in the series this is a series that you definitely do not want to miss one that you can reread over and over again.
I was glad to go back to Winchester, Tennessee. I always feel like I am back home. There is suspense, intriguing how thing pop up in certain places. It kept me on the edge of my chair. Rowan and Billy always work great together. Who know what will ever come to those two. I love the way you make it flow together so we don’t get lost. I can’t put the book down, it is a tearjerker in some places. But most of all you know when to throw the twist and turns in to make it incredibly exciting and more gripping that you just can’t walk away.
Another page turner. The plot of each book keep getting more complicated and puzzling and the secrets and lies of the past just keep getting bigger. I am on pins and needles waiting for more to be revealed.
This book is awesome!! Rowan DuPont continues her quest for answers re deaths of her twin and their mother. As she searches more questions arise until nothing makes sense. The Undertakers Daughter is a series to love!!! Excitement lives on every page!!! I love, love this book!
