Slave
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this story, this Faerie Tale is unlike any I’ve read before and I totally loved it.
I was very excited to read more about Queen Mab, she fascinates me because of the glimpses we’ve seen of her in previous books, though in those scenes she was not very nice, there has to be more to her right?
Slave otherwise known as Little One, began her life in not a pleasant way, I’m glad Little One got to see living as a slave differently than her previous owner. Being with Queen Mab she finds she likes that she is her new plaything. She loves the pleasure that pain brings her and Queen Mab knows how to deliver it.
Towards the end of this installment, revelations bring about a plot twist I did not see coming. I cannot wait to find out how things play out in the next installment. There will be a total of four, so be prepared!
I traveled through the story with trepidation at first then amazement at how the characters just seemed so real. I also have to remember, this is Fae Realm and things aren’t always what they seem.
Lady
First off, I want to mention that this series does need to be read in order, reader beware.
Tabby’s story continues as she finds out she is a Lady, leave it to Queen Mab to make the transition as smooth as possible for her Little One.
I love that Tabby finds her confidence, she gets stronger as a person and lo and behold she even finds her magic, with the help of her Queen of course. Queen Mab wants Tabby in her life, she fills a need for her (I’m so glad we got to see this side of the Queen) and of course Tabby has been yearning for her as well.
I am very intrigued as to how Rowan will fit in the storyline, should be very interesting.
Don’t forget this is the 2nd installment in the Dark(ish) Faerie Tale series. I highly recommend it, you will get a story with complex characters, a storyline that just sucks you in, and let’s not forget a Queen that knows how to wield a whip.
Consort
This is the 3rd story in the Darkish Faerie Tale, and just wow, how much happens throughout. We watch Prince Rowan grow as he learns from the Queen, if he is to be King he needs to learn how to be a good King. Tabby also has her learning points. She really goes through an emotional journey in this installment.
For me, what I really got was how much one person can love another, what they can and will do for that person to make them happy. One big hurdle for Tabby and Rowan was cohabitating for a week, they needed to make sure they could be comfortable around each other as he goes on to be the King. There are circumstances that prevent them from being a couple, won’t go into them as they may spoil parts of the story, but as much as it pained me to read those parts, I can humbly understand their viewpoints. That is another great reason I love reading Candice’s stories, she tells us the why’s and how’s.
And being a Candice Blevins story, of course there is kink, oh boy, is there kink. Lots of pain but lots of pleasure as well, very intense and highly erotic.
Remember that these installments have to be read in order, I cannot wait for the conclusion.
Queen
As I finished reading Queen Mab, I was left with both happiness and sadness, happy because things are brought to a conclusion and sad because we don’t get to keep reading about Queen Mab, Tabby and Rowan and his new wife.
What a great ending to the series, I absolutely enjoyed and might have held my breath and squirmed at certain scenes. Candace Blevins is the best at storytelling, she took us on quite a journey, the growth of these characters was enlightening. There are consequences for your actions.
The epilogue was one of the best I’ve read, made me have a big ‘ole happy sigh!
The books in the Dark(ish) series need to be read in order, Slave, Lady, Consort and Queen for the best enjoyment.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of these books.
Slave – I felt like I was there, with Little One, with the Queen, living in the world with them, feeling what they felt. This wasn’t overly and in your face, but a wave, a mood, a fog, that swirled around you and brought you there with the characters. You were in the world, on their journey, and feeling their feelings while they experienced events. You didn’t feel the events, but the feelings, that is what makes this world, this story, these characters, stand out and leave a stamp on you. This is the story of a slave, and her Queen, and I was right there with them, and loved every second
Lady – We start with Tabby learning to be a free person, finding her way, being her own person. She can’t get what she needs, so she figures she will live without. There is an offer to be with her Queen again, but Tabby has to learn to balance not being a slave with submitting. She was so happy at the castle before, but now things have changed. She is one of the people in charge, except with her Queen, and then, again, only in certain circumstances. Queen Mab has to change too, as she sometimes slips into her previous role with her previous relationship with Tabby. The addition of Rowen adds even more swirls in the muddy water
Consort – Oh, poor Tabby, she is emotionally and physically torn apart in this book. While she is completely unprepared for one, and craves the other, it overwhelmed her, and me, as a reader. Being a slave meant Tabby didn’t have to deal with feelings, and little did she realize in Lady, she was being trained as much as she was training Rowan. Mab knows what is best for her little one though, and forces the situation. It takes a lot, like a lot a lot, to get through to Tabby that she only ever needs to be herself, and helping her get there in the most painful of ways, is Mab. Rowan was wonderful, amazing, and perfect! He has learned his lesson, and recognizes he has more to learn. He knows his place, and where he is going. Him and Mab working on things together is truly a masterpiece to behold. Tabby comes into her own in this book, with all the flaws, worries, and desires that come from having free will, and it was painfully beautiful to see!
Queen – The story picks up where the previous one ended. Rowan and Ciara are married, and Mab and Tabby are joining them for their wedding night. Everything evolves from there, and in alternating view points. We get into the minds of Mab, Rowan, Tabby, and Ciara. You are never in doubt of whose viewpoint you are reading, it is clear from the thoughts, as each character is unique.
The myriad of relationships, going from a threesome, to a foursome made up of two twosome, is the crux of the book. Rowan and Ciara learn to be husband and wife. Tabby learns to deal with them being husband and wife, while growing close to Ciara. Mab oversees this all, while becoming closer to Ciara, and, preparing for her own wedding to Tabby. Rowan needs to prepare himself, and his wife, to rule as King and Queen someday, soon. The epilogue takes us into the future, and we get to check in with our foursome, as well as the Dragon King and the Swan Queen. If I already wasn’t hooked on the stories set in this paranormal world, this would have drawn me in full force. As it is, I want to go back and stay there until the next story is told
See, Faerie Tales for grown ups are a wonderfully scary idea!
