Death by Cafe Mocha by Alex Erickson is the 7th book in the Bookstore Cafe series. I have not read any of the previous Bookstore Café mysteries, but I was able to follow along. With that said I recommend reading in order as the previous books you have the small town feel and all the quirky side characters.

Coffee lovers are gathering from far and wide at the hotel, and Krissy, Rita, and Vicki are excited. But some of the attendees may need to switch to decaf, as a public argument breaks out soon after they check in and then a flavor competition leads to bitter feelings.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I liked the characters which are well developed. There are plenty of twists and turns in this story and I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end. The story moves at a steady pace, and I had a hard time putting it down.
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends, and plan on reading the previous books.
I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from the Publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a fun cozy mystery! I have not read any of the previous Bookstore Café mysteries, but this won’t be my last! I really enjoyed this book, and despite it being #7 in the series, I had no problem jumping right in and getting to know the characters.
In this story, Krissy and her friends are attending a convention about coffee, JavaCon. When the winner of the taste test is found murdered, Krissy takes it upon herself to investigate the death and talk to all the suspects. I think it’s interesting that Krissy is bold enough to insert herself into conversation with near strangers and they really seem to open up to her, and she is able to gather a lot of information that way.
She is in a new town and she doesn’t have the police connections she usually does, but that doesn’t deter her. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who likes coffee and a good cozy mystery!
Interesting book! Krissy and her friends Vicki and Rita attend a coffee convention. While there, the man who wins the coffee tasting is found murdered. Plenty of suspects arise and it seems the man may have blackmailed the judges to win. Krissy investigates and finds herself in some trouble from time to time. This book had a lot of great twists and turns with an interesting reveal of the killer. I look forward to more of Krissy’s adventures and seeing what happens with her and Paul.
Man the coffee world is CRAZY! I think I’ll just stick to drinking it. I liked the story but I missed Pine Hills and the bookstore. Rita was her fantastic gossiping self.
Death by Cafe Mocha is the seventh book in the Bookstore Cafe mystery series. Krissy Hancock, one of the owners of the bookstore cafe, and her business partner Vicki have decided to attend the first ever Java Con to check out new coffees for their cafe. After the coffee tasting competition the winner is found murdered and Krissy just can’t not investigate on her own. Especially after she hears that bribery might have played a part in the choosing of the winner. Why would someone want the winner dead? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Like all the previous books in the series this one will have you reading without a break. It’s and excellently written book with great characters and I highly recommend it!
Krissy, Rita, and Vicky are excited about attending a convention for coffee lovers in Pine Hills, OH. Soon after arriving an argument breaks out and flavor competition leads to death. Krissy gets pulled into the investigation even though she planned to stay out when she suspects some of her newly made friends may be involved. Will this case be too hot for Krissy to handle?
This is the 7th book in the Bookstore Cafe series, but my first one. I had no problems following along or enjoying the book, so you can definitely enjoy as a stand-alone mystery. The setting of the convention gives a fun backdrop for the storyline. The characters are well developed and have quirky personalities. The story is well-plotted with several twists and turns and no shortage of suspects. Very entertaining with a great pace, I read this one petty quickly. I recommend this book to cozy mystery fans and I will be reading more from this series.
I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
Death by Café Mocha by Alex Erickson is book seven in the Bookstore Café series. I am a huge fan of this series, but was sadly let down this time. My opinion is because. the story is not set in the café but at JavaCon in a different state. We didn’t get all the locals this time and Krissy’s cat and his antics..
That being said, Erickson still delivers a good mystery that has you guessing until the end along with an unexpected twist I did not see coming.
Hopefully, in the future, we return to Pine Hills and catch up with the locals.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley and Kensington Books for an honest review.

Death by Café Mocha is the seventh book in the “A Bookstore Café Mystery” cozy mystery series by author Alex Erickson, published by Kensington Books. The addition of this latest book will have fans of the series smiling at Krissy’s antics.
The female characters in this cozy mystery are a bit on the immature side, even though they are all thirty-years-old and up. However, they are also absorbing and entertaining to follow throughout the story. It’s intriguing to see how far Krissy will go to solve the murder of someone she didn’t even know and has no business being involved with. Her inability to stay out of the investigation is comical at times and makes this book fun to read.
The murder itself is fascinating because it was done at a coffee convention with a lot of people milling about at all time. The resolution and the killer’s motive aren’t off the mark in the competitive world of coffee. This makes the story believable.
In this book, the characters are taken outside of their comfort zone. Even though they are uncomfortable at first and awed by the sheer amount of people, vendors, and coffee choices, they come to realize how big the industry is and the lengths people will go to in order to succeed in the business.
I enjoyed this new addition to Alex Erickson’s cozy mystery series. The writing is top-notch, the story keeps you guessing while turning the page. The characters are personable and eccentric. The plot moves quickly, the killer is revealed, justice is served. Death by Café Mocha gives readers a craving for more cozy mystery books, and definitely more coffee.
