Heart of Bastion is Book 4 in The Heart Of The Citadel series and is the best so far. This is a fast paced, action adventure with wizards, djinn, dragon, magic, twists and turns. Our three heroes (Kara, Beryl Kara’s dragon, and Chryso a djinn) have an almost impossible task to break down the wall of evil magic that Emperor Madrid has erected as well as retrieve Kara’s brother and a prisoner who has been in the Citadel for ages. Susan Faw has created a world that seems real and her characters are extremely well developed and grow with each book. This is a fast paced action filled thrill ride that is a page turner from beginning to end and one that I highly recommend. Be sure to pick up the series, you won’t regret it. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Ok, I just gobbled up Susan Faw‘s Heart of Bastion (The Heart Of The Citadel, Book Four) in one single mighty binge sitting. My husband is having fun teasing me about it but I don’t care. It was worth it as this book was just soooo good. Wizards and djinn, magic and dragon, plots within plots, twists and turns, action, adventure and, at its heart, one heck of a fabulous heroine in Kara. This book really had everything I could’ve wanted as it was all served up in a totally delicious manner. There, I think I’ve won my bet with the hubby that I could convey just how good this book is without giving away any of the plot! Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband (who does serve useful purposes) from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
This is a very strong story with clearly-drawn characters, intricate plot-lines and
** lots ** of action.
I was thoroughly involved in the story before I knew it.
Have you coffee beside your elbow before you relax into your favorite comfy chair.
I hope you enjoy this read as much as I did.
It’s a darned good read.
Heart Of Bastion (Heart Of The Citadel, #4), my fourth read from author Susan Faw. I got the first book Heart Of Destiny (Heart of the Citadel #1) back in April 2018 & read it & Heart of Tyr (Heart of the Citadel #2) in October of 2018 and then I just lost track of the series until reading Heart of Shadra (Heart of the Citadel, #3) yesterday. Another thoroughly entertaining well-written read that has all the makings of an epic with likable, well-developed characters that make you want to read more by this author! This edition takes off like a jet from an aircraft carrier in the opening pages, then levels off for the rest of the book. Next up is Heart of Fjord (Heart of the Citadel Book 5) which I hope to finish off by the end of the year. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Heart of Bastion by Susan Faw is book four in The Heart of the Citadel series, and for me, the most engaging and intense story in the series yet! The Heart of Bastion is an intermingled story that follows Kara, Jasper, Marion, and Emily. This story focuses mostly on Kara as she strives to gain access into the Citadel and fulfill her mission. It won’t be easy. Her brother is the key, and while she has only aged so much due to the magic of Jintessa, her brother has aged significantly. But nothing is what it seems.
This story is so intense and engaging it was hard for me to put down. I kept turning the pages eager to learn what happens next with the characters. The author packs this story with twists, turns, suspense, drama, and…heartbreak. Piece by piece the author lays out the truth about the Emperor and shows the reader that certain characters are beginning to see the truth of the situation that they find themselves in. There are shocking situations and moments.
There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this book. I will admit that there are moments of where I get annoyed with a couple of the characters, but I don’t mind. I will say this…prepare to CRY! The author really hits you with a heartbreaking moment in this story and I literally burst into tears.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I am beyond eager for the next book in this series. Out of all the books so far, this one is the most intense and the one that will leave you begging for the next, and as well as in mourning. If you have read the previous books in this series and enjoyed them then I HIGHLY recommend that you grab this book, settle in and read it! But make sure you grab some tissues.
Another great story about the heart bearers and their quest to save the world from the evil emperor. There is plenty of action and enough twists and turns to keep you interested until the book is over.
