I loved this series. To be honest, I didn’t think I’d like Rusty’s book. He seemed so reserved and annoyed about everything in the previous books, but I honestly loved him once I go into his story. I loved the chemistry between him and Harper too.
This book wasn’t perfect. I suspect it was written in a rush since I found some stupid mistakes. Things like head-hopping in the middle of love scenes. Serious head-hopping. This can really screw up a love scene for a reader too, but I got through it and was able to enjoy the book anyway.
There’s also a believability factor here. You have to remember it’s fiction while you’re reading. People returning from the dead and things like that. Things that didn’t realllly need to be there, but it seemed like the author wanted to increase the drama. There was plenty of drama and action without bringing back people who were presumed dead for decades. Doesn’t matter, though. It’s a great read. Genuinely entertaining and hard to put down. Grab a cuppa and curl up with this great story and enjoy it. You won’t regret it.
UNSPEAKABLE (DEADLY SECRETS BOOK 4) By Elizabeth Naughton
Unspeakable is the 4th story in the Deadly Secrets saga. You do not have to have read the prior books however. Elizabeth Naughton can always be counted on to bring a great addictive story and this is no exception! She always brings us well developed characters and strong story lines that twist and you never know where things are going. This one kept me up very late reading.
This is the story of Russell “Rusty” McClane and legal investigator Harper Blake. Her job is to help his attorney investigate what has actually happened. They meet when he is being investigated in the disappearance of a girl. This story brings us intrigue, sex trafficking, disappearing girls, murder, prostitution, and kidnapping. That is not all either! There is much more to Rusty than meets the eye. Harper is not sure what is going on but she is very dedicated to finding out what is going on.
I really enjoyed this book, I definitely give it 5 stars.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it so much I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. Unspeakable is a complex and beautifully written romantic suspense story that slowly reveals itself and purposely keeps the reader off balance as to whether the main character, Rusty McClane, is guilty of making young girls disappear. When Rusty’s lawyer’s investigator and ex-cop, Harper Blake, is brought in on the case the pair start working together to try to prove Rusty’s innocence. This story is riveting and so complex it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys and just when you think you have all the information you need to solve the case there’s another twist that will blow your mind. I read a complimentary copy of this book provided by Montlake Romance through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
In my opinion this is the best book of the Deadly Secrets Series. I was looking forward to Rusty’s story and why he seemed to be a jerk in previous books. Elisabeth Naughton grabbed my attention in the beginning and kept it through out. She kept me on the edge of my seat turning the pages. In my opinion Unspeakable was not as slow moving as previous books. Now there is some very unrealistic aspects, with that said I felt Elisabeth Naughton captured the seedy side of the story. I felt the chemistry between Rusty and Harper. I liked Rusty and appreciated what he was doing and why, but there was a lot of chance involved. What I liked most about Rusty is he is loyal and will do whatever it takes at all costs. Harper was fun for me she didn’t take Rusty’s crap, there was one spot that made me laugh. In my opinion Rusty and Harper together are fun and steamy. I did figure out some of who some of the important players were. There was a twist I had not figured out, but I was not surprised. In my opinion Elisabeth Naughton did a good job with this story, she made me laugh, shake my head and even sniffle at the end. Overall I loved this story. I did read it on Kindle Unlimited.
This is book 4 in the Deadly Secrets series and it features Rusty and Harper. This author is brilliant at writing romantic suspense! I started this book with an idea of where the story was going, only to do a 180 and change my way of thinking all together. It was smooth and totally unpredictable. Rusty and Harper made a great team. I really had my doubts about Rusty. He was just so angry and closed off. I thought it was kind of weird that Harper was attracted to someone she thought was guilty before even investigating him.
The story was AWESOME! The characters were great and the story line had steady growth from the start. This is another amazing book by this very talented author.
I love a book with a great twist, most especially when you don’t see it coming. I have always been a fan of Rusty’s and am thoroughly pleased his book perfectly compliments him. It’s sort of dark and broody but filled with great surprises. I think Harper is a perfect match for him. There is so much good stuff going on in this book I could not put it down. This a great addition to a fantastic series
Unspeakable is the fourth book in the Deadly Secrets series and it is centered on Rusty McClane and Harper Blake, but the rest of the charming family make appearances and dive into the fray when the time comes for action. This book is chock full of constant intrigue, danger and suspense that makes it especially hard to put down. There is so much excitement and activity in this story you just want to keep reading until the end. It will definitely keep you on your toes and guessing as to the outcome characters. This book contains a bold, daring storyline with strong, determined characters that are intricately woven together to create a pulse-pounding, heart-stopping read full of surprises.
Rusty’s story is heartbreaking; he had such a tragic childhood and is still haunted by the demons of his past. He is using his pain, anger and loss to secretly fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He is hoping in some way that his deeds will help elevate his conscious and ease his guilt from his perceived failure in his youth. Up front, he presents a bad boy persona but hidden in the shadows he is seen secretly as a white knight, with a few kinks in his armor. He is a complicated character who holds strong to his beliefs and is loyal and determined to do the right thing no matter the consequences. Even when he is accused of a young girl’s disappearance, he still stays on his mission to help those he can. However, in the end, will what he is doing truly be enough to make a difference? When unforeseen circumstances collide with his agenda and a shocking twist occurs will this be the end of his fight, maybe even his life?
Harper Blake is a strong, tough as nails lady that takes life as it comes. She was falsely accused of sexual harassment on the force and now works as a legal investigator. Not the job she wants to have but a job she no less puts herself all in for. Once she gets invested in a case and digging for information she will not stop until she gets to the truth. This determination lands her in a heap of trouble when she starts digging into the extracurricular activities of her newest client, Rusty McClane. Needing to prove the allegations against him true or false, she gets a lot more than she anticipated when walks into his world. She immediately discovers her instincts were correct and there is more to this strong, sexy, mysterious man than meets the eye. On her quest to find the truth she thinks partnering up with him on his mission will be a boon for her too, her opportunity to get back on the force. The more involved she and Rusty become, the more her emotions get involved and she realizes what she truly has to lose. She has secrets of her own and if they come out before she is ready it could be the end of a good thing before it has a chance to truly begin.
Rusty and Harper make a dynamic couple; they balance each other well. My favorite thing about this story is the connection they share. They have a tight bond and I loved seeing their growing faith and trust in each other, never giving up, and their willingness to work through tragedy for their happy ending.
Unspeakable is a wonderfully well-written story of betrayal, healing, love and family. It is a fast-paced story that will hold you on the edge-of-your-seat until the very end. I gotta say, I believe this one is my favorite of the series. Well worth the read.

Undeniably Good…
Unspeakable is the follow up book in the Deadly Secrets series and we finally get a glimpse into Rusty’s past. All the McClane siblings have had rocky beginnings and Rusty is no different, although, I was surprised to find what lurked in his past. Is he a knight in shining armor or has his past damaged him to his core? In walks Harper, and she is trying to put together the pieces of the story of a missing underage girl who became entangled in an underworld of kidnapping and sex trafficking, not to mention murder. It’s her job to find evidence to defend Rusty, but the more she digs into this case the more information comes to light, and she finds that not everything is as it may seem. The two are thrown together as the story continues to evolve and their attraction to one another is undeniable. Secrets from both of their past to come to light tying the two of them together in ways the reader will not see coming. Once again what I love about this series is the underlying theme of family. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Unspeakable and could not put it down.
Last but not least, I received an ARC of Unspeakable which in no way affected my review. Thank you for the opportunity to read a riveting story.
