Melissa has had a troubled childhood, and as an adult, it’s tough for her to let go of her past. Heartache- 14- Years Old. I want my eyes to stop seeing her; I want my hands to stop feeling the cold. I want my heart to stop crying. I wish it could all just go away. I want yesterday to stop playing in my head like a movie, constantly on repeat.Every time Melissa hid in a corner away from the real … in a corner away from the real world, her cousin Dylan would come to save her.
Neglect- 11-Years-Old.
Daddy only had dinner with me and talked to me because he was planning on leaving me. I pull away from Daddy and out of his arms. I put my tiny hand on his face. “Daddy I don’t want you to leave me now.
Although Melissa pretends to be happy, she isn’t. She carries inside her so much hatred and resentment.
Resentment-
** I continuously slap him repeatedly on his back, “How does it feel to be someone’s punching bag?” I question him; my body is full of rage.
Dylan is the only person who has never turned his back on Melissa and has consistently been her protector.
Her Night in Shining Armor 10-Years-Old.
“Everything will be okay now, we are a team, and we will leave together” Dylan cries with me. “Always together,“ he promises me, and I believe my cousin.
Everyone important in Melissa’s life has only made her feel rejected and unloved. Except for her cousin who has saved her more than once.
Abuse- 10-Years-Old
When my Mommy and Daddy fight, my heart beats hard. I can feel it pounding in my throat and in my chest. My legs shake too, and I cannot make them stop.
It’s natural for Melissa and Dylan to love each other since they are cousins. Right? However, what happens when that love becomes forbidden and turns into something it shouldn’t.

Stated in the title Dylan and Melissa are not blood connected more like Dylan is adopted by Melissa’s aunt, her father’s sister. So no eww factor. Part 1 of this book starts out with Melissa as a 10 year old and the fighting of her parents and her father saying hurtful worlds, then her mother spewing and then her father lays his hands on Melissa in anger. Her father was a mean abusing drunk and her mom ther was a stunged out heroine junky with a job as a stripper. After that each chapter was a year later until she was 11 when her life changed big time, losing her father, her home and a divorce. Melissa had to endure a lot then most kids her age. 3 years later another massive hit will change. Part 2 is when Melissa is 18 and now Dylan at 19 will have shocking news from his mom that will change his entirety. I like the stating of timeline for when the chapter is starting out like 10 year old Melissa then 11, the at 14 and days, weeks and years later.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Oh, my heart broke for these characters. And as nasty as it is, I routed for them. I wanted them to have their happy ever after.
I would recommend to all people who love romance. These characters will make you fall in love with them, and pull many emotions from you during there journey.
I am a big supporter of self-published authors, and this author writing improved with each novel she has written.
“Smooching Cousins,” is forbidden, but has so much more to it. I am scared of writing too much because this is one of those books you would want to go into blind to feel each emotion!
Melissa and Dylan will take you on an emotional roller coaster. Melissa has a horrible childhood and her cousin Dylan stood by her side the entire time. Not once did he leave her. When everyone else left Melissa, Dylan stayed. These characters grow together and will fall in love and in their situation you cannot blame them for falling in love. I am at lost for words. I didn’t know what I expected when I read this, but I surely didn’t expect it to pull so many emotions from me. And as much as my heart hurt while reading this, I don’t regret it. It felt good to find a novel I could escape in. And every chapter kept me going to the next. I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down.
It is erotica so I do not recommend for anyone under eighteen. It heats up near the end, fully detailed. This author connected you to these characters, and I felt every ounce of their pain!
I escaped into this novel, and I could not put it down once it started. Melissa comes from an abusive home, and every time she finds herself in a horrible situation, her Cousin comes to rescue her. Melissa problems go deep, and just when you think everything will be okay, something happens. This book held my attention from beginning to end, and I couldn’t put it down. These characters will stay in my head for days to come. I cried for Melissa, and I am so glad it had the ending it did. I wanted to hate her father, but I couldn’t. And as for Dylan and Melissa as sick as it is, I can see why they fell in love. Her cousin is always there for her and always helps her when everyone else walks away from her. I can say, I have never read a forbidden romance with so many emotions. “Smooching Cousins,” Is free to download if you have a Kindle subscription or two dollars to buy. I’m telling you, this is not a book you would want to past up.
I love forbidden romance, so once I saw the title I was a goner. But, the story is amazingly written. Many twists, and situations that kept me swiping the pages. I can tell the author put thought and emotion into it. I could feel the power of the emotions pouring from the pages. I cried like a baby and felt these characters pain. I didn’t want it to end. I consider this a MUST READ!
