“Fantasy as it ought to be written . . . Robin Hobb’s books are diamonds in a sea of zircons.”—George R. R. Martin Fitz has survived his first hazardous mission as king’s assassin, but is left little more than a cripple. Battered and bitter, he vows to abandon his oath to King Shrewd, remaining in the distant mountains. But love and events of terrible urgency draw him back to the court at … the court at Buckkeep, and into the deadly intrigues of the royal family.
Renewing their vicious attacks on the coast, the Red-Ship Raiders leave burned-out villages and demented victims in their wake. The kingdom is also under assault from within, as treachery threatens the throne of the ailing king. In this time of great danger, the fate of the kingdom may rest in Fitz’s hands—and his role in its salvation may require the ultimate sacrifice.

Another satisfying glimpse into Fitz’s life. Hobb writes fantasy so unlike any I’ve ever read: such powerful world-building, while managing to spend most of the narrative zoomed in on internal, rather than external conflicts.
I love this series. Excellent fantasy series with strong characters and great world building.
This is my all time favorite series.
A really great story of a boy who becomes a man and learning to make a place for himself through becoming an instrument of the crown.
sigh… I miss Fitz & Nighteyes
Royal Assassin is part of a great series. The characters are well-rounded, all with their own different flaws. The whole series is brilliantly conceived. Very hard to wait for the next book in each series. I have re-read them several times.
Robin Hobb is one of my favorite authors and I re-read her various series time and again. I strongly recommend all her books, especially the Assassin series.
I love this series! Very dimensional characters, and they only get deeper… and the plot is complex, unpredictable and intelligent.
Like it a lot.
It was a fantastic read. The suspense builds all the way to the main event. I enjoyed the touch of romance and magic and I would gladly read the book all over again. I’m recommending this book if you enjoy medieval novels.
Robin Hobb is by far my favorite author.
I still can’t put my finger on why I like Robin Hobb’s The Farseer Trilogy so much.
Sure, the magic system is fun. In Royal Assassin, the second entry in the series, we learn more about the Wit (telepathy with animals), the Skill (telepathy with people), and various other magics. And the world-building is intriguing. Hobb does an excellent job of …
