I was addicted from page one!
Heartbreaking and heroic. Hunter’s characters will leave you breathless and flipping the pages for more.
C.C. Hunter is one of my favorite authors when it comes to emotional young adult romances with a touch of the paranormal. Her writing is gripping and heartfelt, weaving stories that always suck me in. Two Feet Under is just over 200 pages and I flew through this fast paced story in one sitting. When I finished Two Feet Under, I immediately started reading Three Heartbeats Away, book 3 in the series. I just can’t get enough of these characters and their world.
This book tore up my heart. It’s emotionally heavy and at times sad, but yet, it so, so, so GOOD. I ended up reading the book in one day, getting up only when absolutely required to. I just had to know what was going to happen next to Riley and all the moving parts. If you’ve read the first book you know she has ongoing issues with her father, there’s more secrets appearing relating to her mother and helping the dead sort out unfinished business are only half of her problems. I so want her friendship to grow with Kelsey. They are like two peas in a pod and I can only think of all the good that could happen if they stopped with the secrets. And then there’s Hayden…All my favorite parts involved him and Riley. Overall the story was a fast read for me that I absolutely enjoyed. I can’t wait for the next book!
The Mortician’s Daughter: Two Feet Under was an exceptional sequel and one I know will stay with me for a while. If you love paranormal stories with a healthy dose of drama, mystery and romance then you should check out this series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
I love a good ghost story, and this one was fantastic!
Every person in the story seemed to be somebody I could meet in the street. The author has a knack for details in the ordinary world.
I love everything by this author. The Mortician’s Daughter books 1, 2 & 3 were all so amazing. Such a great read!
This is the second book in CC Hunter’s Mortician’s Daughter series. I think this series is getting even better. I love Riley and Hayden, and it ended with a cliff hanger. So, I couldn’t wait to get to book 3!
For the past year and a half, Riley had started seeing ghosts of dead people who needed her help before they could cross over. Once it started with simple requests until she helped a woman who tragically died under questionable circumstances. Now a dead violent convict needed her help to contact his brother who was a dangerous gang leader.
And then there was Hayden’s ghost, who happened to be alive but unconscious – comatose. He didn’t want Riley to see him like that in the hospital; suffering with all the tubes and medical apparatus attached to his almost lifeless body. He was losing hope… He was losing her…
Two Feet Under brings more excitement and thrills, especially now that Riley Smith had finally accepted her “gift”. I liked her a lot; she’s got a great heart and doesn’t hesitate helping those in need. She’s one of a kind, she’s golden. Although she’s still having issues with his father’s predicament, Riley proved to be a strong girl with a soft heart. She’s lucky to have friends like Kelsey and Jacob and the crazy lunch lady. And there’s Hayden, too. Such a fine young man with good intentions, although troubled with his current situation. The ending was a cliffhanger and got me even more excited than ever before.
CC Hunter continues to make waves and ignite fire with her beautiful writing and wonderful stories. I can’t wait to finish this series! I’m just three heartbeats away from reading it!!!
Possibly 4.5 stars!!!
I was hesitant at first. I didn’t think anything could be better than Shadow Fall’s. But I was surprisingly pleased & rate it as one of the best I’ve read in quite a while.
OMG! This book left my heart bleeding on the floor and I don’t even know how I’m going to write this review without it being messy and all over the place. I’m broken-hearted, emotionally-spent, and such a damn mess. Two Feet Under exceeded all my expectations and I’m absolutely blown away!
If you read the first book, then you know that Hayden is not really dead, but in a coma fighting for his life. Riley is now dealing with the ghost of a convicted criminal and also her father’s addiction with drinking. With so much on her plate, will Riley be able to help everyone she cares about and have her happily ever after with Hayden?
Going into this sequel, I had a feeling that the story at some point would take a turn for the worst, but I was not prepared for everything that happened and that ending that broke my heart into a million pieces. It’s unbearably emotional and distressing on so many levels, but I loved every single moment. It’s even more addictive than One Foot in the Grave and I just couldn’t stop reading. Whether it was good or bad, I wanted to know… no I needed to know what would happen next. It’s darker, edgier, sadder and everything is just way MORE than the first book. More dangerous, more secrets, more lies, more ghosts, more suspense, more twists and surprises, more romance and more FEELS… I absolutely LOVED this sequel and C.C. Hunter just became my new favorite author after reading this. It’s just that GOOD.
Riley is my girl and I love that she’s so relatable. I also really love that she’s caring, kind, persistent, and so selfless. She doesn’t easily give up and she’s even willing to risk her own life to save someone else. She’s a fantastic and admirable heroine and I really hope she gets the happy ending she deserves.
Hayden… oh how I love the way he makes me smile and swoon. He’s the perfect book boyfriend – charming, protective, funny, sweet, and caring. I really hope everything works out between Riley and him cause I don’t think my heart can take it if it doesn’t.
I’ve already mentioned this in my other reviews, but I’m going to say it here again… Hunter’s stories are thrilling and absolutely enthralling. She has an amazing talent creating stories that are heartbreaking, but also breathtakingly poignant, utterly fascinating, and emotionally wonderful in so many ways. This book has some parts that were really difficult for me to read without crying my eyes out, but there are also so many moments that made me smile, laugh, and hope for the best. Hunter perfectly blends the right dose of drama, thrill, suspense, mystery, intrigue, humor, romance, and love. This is absolutely a fantastic paranormal romance thriller and I’m so in love! The writing is flawless, the plot is exciting and emotional, the characters are totally lovable and my heart ached for all of them, and the FEELS… just WOW… so, so, so AMAZING! And then there’s that shocking ending.. I didn’t see that twist coming. I didn’t like it but I did cause it gives me something to look forward to in the last book and it’s going to be really good and I know I’m rambling here, but I just really love this series.
The Mortician’s Daughter: Two Feet Under is an outstanding sequel and I cannot rave about it enough! It’s emotionally intense, riveting, romantic, thrilling, and also really heartwarming. I LOVED this book and series and cannot wait to see how it all ends in THREE HEARTBEATS AWAY, which releases TOMORROW!!! So lucky to have an early copy of it cause I just started it last night and it’s sooooo GOOD! I’m totally dreading the moment I get to the last page, but I’m also really excited. I really hope I don’t get a book hangover after cause I know it’s going to be a bittersweet ending and I don’t know if my heart is completely ready to say goodbye to everyone.
If you’re looking for an addictive paranormal series that will keep you up late into the night, look no more and start this one ASAP! Book 3 comes out tomorrow so you can binge the series right now or over the weekend.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Mortician’s Daughter: Two Feet Under C.C. Hunter
Loved the first book in the series, and this one is even better. Riley is having issues with Hayden’s spirit who doesn’t like her seeing him in the hospital sick and unconscious. He’s beginning to think seriously of giving up and letting go of life. Then a new ghost appears who needs Riley’s help—a convicted criminal who was supposed to donate part of his liver to save his daughter’s life, but he was murdered in prison before the transplant could take place. He wants Riley to find his brother, a vicious gang leader who might be a match for the little girl.
Hayden’s not happy with Riley’s choice to help, the deceased convict is pressing her for action, she’s worried about her father’s drinking and the fact he seems to be keeping important secrets from her, and as complicated as it sounds, this is a totally engrossing story that kept me riveted to the pages. Just like the first book, One Foot in the Grave, this one ends with a cliffhanger—which I usually hate. Except with C.C. Hunter, I know the next book will be a perfect segue from this one to that, and I’ll forgive her the moment I have it in my hot little hands.
Definitely a five-star read! And Three Heartbeats Away can’t come out soon enough!
I couldn’t put this down. What a page-turner! After reading Book 1 in The Mortician’s Daughter, I had to find out what happened to Hayden. I kept hoping something wouldn’t but didn’t expect what did. (Trying to be vague enough not to spoil the ending). Riley is a complex character. Her difficulties with her dad, who doesn’t like to talk about her dead mother, and other teen anxieties is complicated by her ability to see and talk to the dead. And the fact that she can’t talk about it, even with her best friend who has problems of her own. High school sure isn’t what it used to be. I expect (hope) there will be another book in this series. Can’t wait.
Just finished reading two feet under by C.C. Hunter and all I can say is I need the third book now! What a major cliff hanger. Riley has been visiting Hayden everyday at the hospital now that she knows who he is and that he is not dead, but Hayden is not too happy about that. Dead prison guy is still needing some major help and fast, his daughter is needing a liver transplant and the only person who could possibly save her is his brother, who is also a gang leader. This might just be Riley’s most dangerous mission but it involves saving the life of a child. While dealing with the dead Riley still has some problems at home, her dad is still drinking, she wants answers about her dead mother, and what she discovers may just lead to unwanted answers. This book was very emotional but
C.C. Hunter has the writing ability to make you cry and laugh within a few pages. I received an advanced reading copy through net galley courtesy of the author herself. This is the best book I have read this year!
