I was thoroughly disappointed to read a book that was a well-written, engaging crime thriller to find out the author uses PROFANITY (including God’s name). I refuse to read anything with horrible language.
I am enjoying this book. It is well written and a little different than the same crime mystery themes. The characters are interesting! A big positive is no spelling errors. It has a slightly romantic twist but mostly twists to a journalist covering murders.
Nichelle Clarke, Nicey to her friends, is a Richmond Virginia reporter with a Pomeranian named Darcy and a serious shoe fetish. She covers courts and crimes for the Richmond Telegraph, for the most part covering robberies and court cases. However, in these first three books of the series, Nichelle becomes an investigative reporter, exposing crimes that no one else even realized existed. The first book deals with police corruption, drug busts, and murder. The second book focuses on politicians, bribery, and sex. The final book investigates what first looks like suicide but is actually murder. Despite the widely disparate topics, the writing is witty and smart, and shoes always play a role. Nichelle has love interests too, Joey the mob boss and Kyle the ATF wunderkind. These books are great. The main character is smart, sassy, and tireless in seeking the truth, the plots are fast paced and believable, and there is enough humor took keep the reader from despair over life’s cruelty.
If you enjoy a strong female, Nichelle Clarke a crime reporter for a small town newspaper really fits the bill. This crime trilogy is filled with suspense, action & so many twists and turns. Each story has very likable characters especially her romantic interests , Kyle an ATF agent & Joey who she feels has a connection with the Mob. All 3 stories seem to take her down a path of danger for which she never seems to be prepared, & then she pens her entire odyssey through her unraveling of the mystery.
Really enjoyed this reading!!
Great read. Hard to put down.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought these books but I loved them. I couldn’t put them down and immediately ordered the other books in this series when I finished the 3rd book. I read all 8 books in a week and I wasn’t disappointed. I really hope there will be additional books in this series.
It passed the time during this Covid 19 business. However, it sprinkled brand names products throughout…very annoying and distracting. He reached for his Colgate….no toothpaste. I felt I was being bombarded by advertising and I don’t like it!
books 1-3 are all very hard to put down and now that i finished them i need the rest in the series. for someone like me to reads all the time to fine such a good series is a gift! while reading these stories they are fast moving full of surprises and the very favorite type of stories i love to read.
Box set and couldn’t stop until I’d read them all ! Well told stories. Interesting characters. Great overall !
Loved the stories, the mystery and the characters
I read this series in a few days. It has very cool characters and I learned some about the world of newspaper publishing; which was cool. I used to write a column for a newspaper.
Nichelle Clarke is the cops and courts writer for the Richmon, VA Telegraph. She is constantly fighting the local tv news’ stations for scoops; especially the perfectly-put-together Charlie.
Nichelle’s addiction to expensive footwear entertained me as my Mom was also a high-heels only woman until we moved to our farm. I love that Nichelle, or Nicey, uses Ebay to get her Manolos and Loubatans (sp) even though it dates the books since Ebay is now a store and not an auction site.
I am very impressed with the mystery aspects of these novels. A lot of careful thought and plotting went into them to keep the reader guessing. There are however, a few things that made me groan. The first is: Why does she have a dog? Is Darcy just a convenient place to hang some clues? Also, show me; don’t tell me. I would love to have a scene where she sits down to put together one of her real-life puzzles while working a crime puzzle through her head.
Altogether, a very entertaining series. There is a great boss, evil bosses, rivalry, oh, and two really cute guys. A cop and a …?
