Meet Hilary Watts: pretty, straight A-student, teachers’ pet, goody two-shoes, totally has it all together—and has never been kissed, or even had a boyfriend for that matter.Meet Grayson Dymicks: badarse persona, new guy in school, just moved in next door, volatile—and a total jerk. When Hilary finds herself attracted to the very person she shouldn’t be, she never imagines all her well-placed … shouldn’t be, she never imagines all her well-placed Jenga blocks will come crashing down—or that her first ever kiss will be with a boy every girl in school wants for themselves.
Hilary’s life is turned upside down and she realises she’s not as put together as she thought. Instead, she’s as totally messed up as all the other teenage girls her age—but is this a romance destined for a happily ever after or a broken heart?

Grayson arrives at the school and he’s popular with everyone and a rule breaker. Hillary wants to dislike Grayson and avoid him, but he moves in next door.
Hillary is normally put together with plans in place, along with her best friend their happy making their way through school following all the rules.
Grayson leaves Hillary wanting to break some her nicely laid plans and makes her realise that her life isn’t as carefully put together as she thought because Grayson is the opposite of everything, she believes but she can’t help the way she feels.
I really wanted to like this book and I’m not saying I disliked it but it wasn’t up to my standard’s when it comes to this authors talent. I wanted to get more in depth with the characters but felt let down with my inability to connect with them. I understand it is written toward a younger audience and usually I love ya based books so I’m going to chalk it up as a one off for both myself and the author. This in no way deters from my constant need for the next thing Belle Brooks will bring to the table.
I was excited for this book. I love YA, Belle Brooks can be very funny, and the premise is good. The book is good, it has all the right ingredients, but it just doesn’t come together as well as I think it could. When the book ended, I felt like something was missing. For a teenager Hilary seemed to have it pretty together, especially one who isn’t supposed to. If this is your first Belle Brooks novel, try another one if you don’t care for it. She is a wonderful writer and this is good, just not her best.
It was an ok read for me. Which is unusual since I love what the author usually writes. It took me quite awhile to get into the story and then it was hard to connect. Cute, fun and sweet YA if that’s something you’re looking for.
The super talented Belle Brooks blows me away again!
Miss Not Together is an outstanding story about all the awkwardness, insecurities, embarrassment, relationships and trials that the high school years are all about. Add a hearty dose of perfectly timed sarcasm and humor and this book is a winner!
Hilary is a fantastic character. She’s smart, sweet, a rule follower, prides herself in having her act together and is destined for greatness. Her crush Grayson is the epitome of teenage punk persona you can’t help but root for. The dance of sorts that these two do – is utter perfection. The way their relationship and feelings developed consumed me. Hilary’s best friend Freddy, Hilary’s parents, Freddy’s parents and even Grayson’s brother and dad make up an incredible supporting cast that truly brought this story to life.
Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. YA isn’t my go to genre as I have three teenagers and the last image I need is them getting it on with their high school crushes. However this story is so much more. It is really Hilary’s coming of age. Her friendships, her relationship with her parents, going to a party, drinking…all the things kids her age face. All impeccably written as always – this author’s super power is her use of words! Absolutely brilliant!
I usually really enjoy books by author Belle Brooks- so it pains me to rate this book low!
The storyline was good, I would have really enjoyed reading it as a teenager. As an adult I prefer something that isn’t about high schoolers and teenage drama ( again, I would have loved this as a teen)
There was a little bit more repitation in this book than I’ve read in the past by this author- which I a not a fan of.
The storyline itself was cool. The bond between the female lead and her father was nice to read- while her mom was off pursuing herself/ a career her dad was really pulling all stops to be father of the year!
Thank you for your review.
I’ve not read many YA books, but I have to say, I really enjoyed this one. Hilary Watts is a clever, teenaged girl, a smart cookie with her head set straight on her future. Just like her best friend, Freddy she is ready to take on the world and make it her own.
But, one day, a new boy appears on the horizon and everything changes. Not only is Grayson at her school, he’s Hilary’s new neighbor. She’s confused by all the feelings he brings out in her and has to fight with her brain to stay on track.
Hot boys and teenage hormones may just be enough to wreck the plans that she and Freddie have made. This was a sweet, fun and angsty story told from Hilary’s POV only. I would have prefered to hear from Grayson as well, but sadly that wasn’t an option. I was still captivated by the story and gladly recommend it, for any reader, teenage and older.
*I received a free ARC of Miss Not Together from the author. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
Miss Not Together is all about letting go. Not thinking only of the future, but about the present. To be young, and take advantage of that fact.
While the writing was good, the story itself did not appeal to me as much as I thought it would – I think it was mostly because I had trouble connecting with the different characters involved.
