“She’s the sky. I’m the earth. Together we make up our own universe.”
Teetering on the edge of obsession and toxicity, I only read the first duet: Savage and Savior. It was easy to get swept up in this couple, his darkness to her light, even if their ups and downs were tumultuous, angsty, and emotional through out, it still left you wanting to know what would happen. They made me want to scream, tragedies, heartbreak, seemingly the entire universe pulling them apart, it was an achingly bumpy ride.
“That day as the rain came down, I made sweet Sara Jane Grayson my mission. With nothing left to lose, I vowed to steal her heart and own her soul.”
Savage:
S.L Scott brings us a gritty, modern day fairy tale in the first book in the Kingwood Duet series – Savage. The writing is beautiful, flowing from chapter to chapter. She leads us on a wild ride. But the ride doesn’t end. We are left at a cliff, and I for one am ready to dive off and see how it will all end!
“She was my destiny.”
“I was her downfall.”
“We were a match made in hell.”
“But when we were together, that hell was pure heaven.”
The story is told in duel POV’s with flashbacks of the past. Alexander Kingwood IV leads a complicated and sometimes dark and self-destructive life. Three years ago his life collided with Sara Jane Grayson. It was both a devastating day because he buried his mom, and a new beginning because he met Sara Jane. Setting a course of events that could only implode in time.
“Our course was set, our love a sweeping storm that would brew for years before raging.”
Sara Jane Grayson. Loyal, loving, innocent. Tied to Alexander, their souls entwined. Her love and loyalty to Alexander is unwavering because she sees the real Alexander. She knows his heart and his soul. But fate has other plans for them.
The story is mesmerizing and gut wrenching at times. It is emotional, with lots of “feels”. It is also suspenseful. What is really happening? The description and the prologue doesn’t really tell you what to expect. You must experience that yourself. I dove in and I had a hard time putting the book down. And in the end I was left wanting more! I need answers! I need to know! Come on August!!!!
“Beyond what savage light he brings, to me, he was everything.”
“…I would give up a sky full of stars for one more night in his darkness.”
Savior:
The saga continues…. You MUST read Savage (The Kingwood Duet #1) first! S.L. Scott leaves us on a cliff. And I couldn’t wait to dive in! After all, I needed answers! Once again, the story flows but is told in mysteries. What is happening? Who is that…..
It is soooo hard to write this review without spoiling the story. So yes, yes, maybe, no and yes!
This story is told from the heart. It is emotional and desperate at times. The ride will not be smooth. At times you will wonder – where is this going?! And you will absolutely fall in love with these complicated characters. Their strength and spirit will draw you in.
The story flows. Some questions have immediate answers and others just create more questions. There is suspense, mystery and drama.
I love Sara Jane. She is strong, she is loyal, she is full of life. Alexander is a tortured soul. He is also loyal, strong, determined, complicated and faithful. Their souls entwine together. Their chemistry is perfect. And their honesty toward each other is beautiful. They express true emotions toward one another.
“You are beautify to me- hope and promises kept. You are everything.”
An amazing read!
Sacred
Another amazing story from SL Scott! We meet Cruise in Savage. He is King’s best friend. They are as close as brothers. Cruise is so loyal and trustworthy. He has gone through a horrible and intense situation with King. They survived, but the emotional scars are still there. Cruise feels lost and restless. As a result of his recent experience he starts to wonder where he came from and who he was before being adopted. Seeing him struggle, King gives Cruise some advice:
“Find someone that makes you smile”
Clara Eckerd has had her own struggles in life. She has led a sheltered life. She has overcome so much but there are still secrets and baggage left over. Clara meets Cruise and a connection is made. They have more in common then they realize. Cruise gives her the nickname of ‘Dove’.
“I think I just met the one person who speaks to my body and mind, and makes me feel alive again. Dove. My little peacemaker. She smells like heaven, but I bet she tastes like sin.”
Get ready for the ride. Everything will come full circle. The ‘feels’ are there! There is so much emotion as two people find each other and themselves. Uncovering truths, lies and deception. The ride is wild, so hold on tight!
“Her aura is so much bigger than her actual frame. She fills a room with her light, making me forget about the darkness I usually struggle to evade.”
I have really enjoyed the series. I love love love Cruise. His loyalty and compassion touched my heart. And Clara, aka Dove, is strong and resilient. A true survivor. I also loved the many references to Savage & Savior. And of course I love my epilogues!!! This one did not disappoint!
Sacred is a standalone, however I highly recommend reading Savage & Savior first. This has turned out to be a fantastic series full of drama, suspense, emotion and sexy sexy times!
Solace:
Solace is a standalone, romantic, small town story. A spin off of sorts… Jason Koster is a character that we met in Savior. Book two of S.L. Scott’s Kingwood Duet. Jason is ready for a change. After a very close call he decides to go home, regroup and decide where to head next.
Growing up in a small town there are several things you can count on, apple pie and lots of gossip. Jason Koster and Delilah Noelle were ‘the’ couple. The star quarterback and the cheerleader. Both wild and crazy in love. But something happened. Misunderstandings, secrets & lies destroyed that young love.
Jason returns. Not only does he find out that things are different but the truths start to come out…..
“Sometimes it’s not the loudest voice we hear, but the soft whisper our heart feels.”
Their story is a sweet and swoony, second chance romance. Jason is hot! But he is also intense, determined and charismatic. Delilah has had to overcome many things since Jason left. She survived and is standing on her own.
Their story is about love, loss and finding solace….
“This man. This. Man. He kisses me with such desire I realize all others don’t matter. This kiss is the first kiss of our forever.”
Beautifully written. I loved the characters and I loved the Kingwood references. You don’t have to read The Kingwood Duet to enjoy this book. I do however highly recommend the duet! S.L. Scott is writing some amazing stories! I can’t wait to read what she has next!
“Nothing heals a broken soul like the love of a true heart.”
My emotions took a beating during these stories, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. The love, rawness, intensity, and mystery of each book will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat and gasping for air. The characters exude strength and bravery that is extremely admirable. Every word captivated me and the stories held my interest from the very beginning.
Ms. Scott’s writing and storytelling is phenomenal; in my opinion an author is truly talented when you can actually feel the pain and the love of the characters. I have read countless books by this author, and each time I read another one I am completely blown away by her talent. The stories she creates draw you in from the beginning and have you falling in love with the characters.
