I really enjoyed reading about Kayla and Jay, they both went thorough so very tough stuff and both had to overcome a lot to get together. I think that they helped each other get to were they could both be happy again.

This story was definitely uplifting and I liked that it ends on such a sweet and hopeful note. Kayla and Jay aren’t in the all clear, but the fact that they both open their hearts and give love another chance was heartfelt.
I really wish I could have connected more with Kayla. My heart broke for her and everything she’d been through but at the same time I felt like her actions towards Jay when she thinks he’s lied to her, was too real and too believable. Her angst and struggle to protect herself wasn’t as vulnerable as I think was the author’s intention. In actuality, Kayla came off as cold and unfeeling. And not just with Jay, but also with Davis and her best friend, Fran.
Everyone was so understanding and treated her so gently that they didn’t seem to realize it was doing more bad than good.
Memorable Moments: Their one night together was so sweet and healing for them both. No smexy times, just a lot of cuddling and kissing. I think it was a nice touch and it was exactly what they both needed. No pressure, just comfort and affection.
Would I recommend? Others might enjoy this one more. I didn’t warm up to Kayla as much as I wanted to but the message is definitely hopeful and optimistic.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kayla was raped, and doesn’t trust many people – her parents, her cousin/best friend Davis, her horse. She’s withdrawn and subject to panic attacks. Jay joined the Air Force, but suffers from PTSD after an attack in Iraq where his friends and co-workers were killed. Davis invites Jay to help at the ranch while Kayla’s parents are on vacation. For the first time since her assault, Kayla begins to trust again. But when someone from Jay’s past shows up, the drama very nearly destroys what was beginning to develop with Kayla. This is a wonderful story – two broken young people who finally allow someone else in. Davis is so patient with Kayla, even as he pushes her to do more for herself, and Fran is such an amazing friend for telling it like it is. This is a short book, but deals with a couple of painful subjects in a compassionate and caring manner.

A story of pain after tragedy, of healing, and of getting your life back. A story of trust and love and family. I enjoyed the story and the addressing of difficult issues. I would have preferred a more in-depth resolution, but the rest of t was good. A clean romance.

She was assaulted and her life has never been the same. Jay came to work at the ranch, he is her cousins friend. She never expected to like him much less fall for him.
