I received an ARC of this book. Here’s what I thought. This second book in Filler’s new Lie to Me series has Layla temporally moving to Guadalajara to write about the ‘boys of Guadalajara’. She meets a very talented fashion photographer, Pablo, who not only beds her, but ‘shoots’ her in an impromptu session. (Did I say he’s very young? 20?) She also meets Mish, who quickly becomes her friend, and runs into Omar and JR from her Puerto Vallarta days. There is definitely a danger element; Guadalajara is the base for a couple of warring cartels. Because of JR’s dealings with the cartels, Layla and Pablo have to get out to a safe place. They eventually go with Mish to Mexico City in search of a small boy. I own or have read with KU most of Ms. Filler’s books. She has a knack of writing so that you feel as if you’re right there, tagging along, savoring the tastes, the smells, learning the culture, feeling the sadness of great poverty, but also experiencing the good in some. Romance? Yes! Thriller? Definitely! Worth the read? Absolutely
Shoot Me was a great 5 star read and book two in the Lie to Me series. The story picks up shortly after where Lie to Me left off.
Layla is heart broken after Mateo’s departure, she had finally opened up and thought he was the one, only to be left all alone. She has decided to go work in Guadalajara for a few months to get away and write.
Pablo whispered, “It’s the things you cannot see, your vulnerability, the sadness of your memories, and your openness to love, that makes you so beautiful.”
Layla has quite the adventures and is really enjoying her time. She also meets several men throughout the story, some friends some lovers. I had my favorite but enjoyed all of them. There are some hot scenes, romance, danger, and so much more.
All of the secondary characters were great, I loved Marisela. My emotions were all over the place. Will Layla finally get what she’s truly looking for? If you’re looking for a great read I suggest this series, I really like Layla and her story and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
