One call. That’s all it took to change everything. The sweet voice on the other end of the line delivered a blow I never saw coming. Fighting for our country’s freedom and staring death in the eye was nothing compared to this news.History has one hell of a way repeating itself. Kate Wilson’s voice didn’t waver once as she turned my worst nightmare into a reality, and her words weaved a cruel … cruel poetic justice.
I hadn’t been back home in over two years. Once I pulled into the one-horse town, I was greeted by the gorgeous blonde.
Kate extended her hand and offered me a warm smile. The connection was made. The innocent beauty has no idea that she just flipped my life upside down.
She’d unearthed secrets that can never be buried.

This story is so emotional, and touching. Max’s backstory is very sad and seeing the similarities between his story and his son’s is heartbreaking. Through all the sadness comes Kate’s love for Finn and later her love for Max through Finn.
The narration by Heather Edwards & Mark Whalbeck was amazing. Looking forward to other narrations by them.

I really like Heidi writing style. The story isn’t bogged down by unnecessary details, allowing it to flow quickly, which is good because there are a lot of feels in this book.
The subtitle reads: All roads have led me to you, and that pretty much sums up the love story of Max and Kate.
That Was Yesterday is a very emotional story. You’re going to need a tissue or two. Just saying. But trust me, it’s all going to be okay.
The past isn’t pretty, but their future is bright. This book is about new beginnings, family, and of course, that all important ingredient, true love.
I give it five stars. Great job, Heidi!
I am seriously in love with Finn!
Max has lived a life like most could only have nightmares about. That is, until Jessie and Jules came to the rescue and adopt him. He has been given a wonderful life but he knows he is destined for more. The one thing keeping him in place is his girlfriend since high school, Ally. But when Ally decides to do the same thing his birth mother found more important than him, that makes Max’s choice a lot easier; Marines it is!
Max has a hate/hate relationship with his hometown; refusing to back. That is until he gets a call he never could imagine receiving. A teacher, Miss Kate, at the elementary school one town over from his home town is calling to ask him for help with…HIS SON!
This entire time we follow the life of Max, Miss Kate, Finn while also revisiting Jessie and Jules.
This book seriously made my heart melt with so many perfect and wonderful scenes making me long to have this as a movie. Although, like a true HJ story, it all played out so perfectly in my mind that no movie would be good enough!
*And you better get the extra bonus chapter! It made me cry almost more than the whole book!
Wow!!! What an amazing this story this was. One that had me reading non stop .
Max had a rough start in life, born to a drug addict who didn’t really care for him. People who cared took him in and gave him a second chance. Now years later history is about to repeat itself. With the help of Kate a school teacher they will stop it from happening.
I truly loved this heartfelt story that consumed my entire being. I never expected this intense, raw beautifully told story. The storyline was addicting and captivating. It was highly entertaining.
I loved the wonderfully created characters. Alpha male but emotionally invested. Kate is a strong heroine that fights hard for those she loves. Bottomline this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I highly recommend this story.
Bellus once again delivers an amazing story that will have you completely engrossed in the story and falling love with these amazing characters from the start.
My heart ached for Max from the very beginning and I couldn’t help but keep reading so that I could make sure he found his happy. I fell head over heals for this sweet loyal man that just wants to move on from his past.
These characters sucked me in and never let me go. Even now days later I still carry them with me. And getting to revisit with one of my favorite couples, Jules and Jessie was amazing!
I love love loved this one and highly recommend you one-click!
5 Emotional Stars!!
HJ Bellus captivates with her new release, That Was Yesterday. This stunning love story of Max and Kate will keep you riveted and pulling for these two lovable, maddening people!! A beautifully written love story, you’ll find yourself an escape between the pages and wrapped with every word.
5 Stars
This is hands down one of the most touching stories of pain, loss, love and healing I have ever had the honor to read. HJ Bellus has given us the story you will not be able to stop reading. You will laugh, you will cry, your jaw will drop and you will want to never leave the world where the James Family lives. She shows us the road to Happily ever after can have many obstacles along the way, but in the end only the important things matter, family, love and each other.

Max has had a tough past, and Kate is a sassy female. This is a beautifully written story which is emotional, heartbreaking, and filled with suspense, action, family and love. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
Small towns can be challenging. For a boy living on almost nothing, barely surviving, it can be a living hell. Max survives with his mom, an alcoholic and so much less. He is beaten and bullied daily. He might be able to play football but that doesn’t mean he belongs. Jessie James sees so much more, saving him when all is lost.
Life is good until it isn’t. Max gives up football, drops his “used to be a cute small town” girlfriend and joins the Marines vowing never to return to the small town, to the misery. He holds strong until he can’t.
Like Jessie, Max has to step in and save a child, a son he did not know exist. There is no turning back now. To save his son from a repeat of his childhood he would move back to the small town with all its misery.
A teacher, a heroine, a protector is the light in Max’s sad world. She found him. She told him. He had a son, Finn, and he needed him. Little did Max know, but he needed Kate. He needed strength. he needed his family when the past tried to crush him.
“The beauty in life is not hating, but rather respecting, where you come from no matter how ugly it is.”
This is absolute favourite quote, and perfectly embodies everything about Max’s story and his love for Kate.
‘That Was Yesterday’ is the second book in a family related series, and although is a complete stand-a-lone, I loved seeing more of Jessie, Jules, and their family since finishing their book, ‘Yesterday Is Gone.’
Max initially grew up in the harshest of circumstances, and, even though glimpses can be seen in our own community, or the worst cases are in the news, I can never understand how parents can behave in the most abhorrent and despicable of ways towards their precious children. Some, like Max did, meet the right people along the way, and get a helping hand out of that life.
Kate is a feisty teacher who doesn’t easily give in, or give up on people, and she is perfect for Max and the situation he now finds himself in. She’s everything that is patience, generosity and love, but, don’t be dis-respecting this lady, ‘cos she won’t take that either!
I read this loving romance off the back of the Whiskey Duet which were dark romantic suspense’s with tough subject matter, and HJ Bellus showcases her writing talent in the ease in which she is seemingly able to slip between these two genres: light to dark, and back again.
I’m hoping to see more from this group of family and friends. Someone else mentioned Whit’s story, but I’d love to hear more from Cody. My heart is breaking for this brave man. 4.5 Highly Recommended Stars.
First book yesterday is gone, though book 2 is standalone, I would highly recommend reading yesterday is Gone before you read Max’s story. (Book 2) How he grew up, how he became part of the family. This is heart warming yet heart breaking.
This is a fantastic book, very emotional. A beautiful contemporary romantic book.
That Was Yesterday had me crying from the prologue. HJ Bellus knows how to grip your heart and soul with her words and Max’s story was no exception. A young woman with a heart so pure flips Max’s world with just one phone call. A man tormented by his past in a town he never wanted to return to, needs the strength of his family to face his greatest challenge that will also become his greatest achievement. A story that tore at my heart, had the tears flowing but ultimately gave me a journey of complete love and happiness. Max and Kate’s connection is instant with a common factor that will only bring them closer. This book is one of torment, secrets, family bonds and absolute pure love. That Was Yesterday stole my heart, owned my soul and had me falling in love. Have you ever read a book that you connected so much with the characters you just wanted to wish yourself into the pages to be a part of their journey, to hold them close and show them “That Was Yesterday “. A heartfelt, action packed, steamy romance with so much love.
