By day she writes comic books. By night, she lives them.MG Martin lives and breathes geek culture. She even works as a writer for the comic book company she idolized as a kid. But despite her love of hooded vigilantes, MG prefers her comics stay on the page. But when someone in LA starts recreating crime scenes from her favorite comic book, MG is the LAPD’s best—and only—lead. She recognizes the … only—lead. She recognizes the golden arrow left at the scene as the calling card of her favorite comic book hero. The thing is…superheroes aren’t real. Are they?
When too-handsome-for-his-own-good Detective Kildaire asks for her comic book expertise, MG is more than up for the adventure. Unfortunately, MG has a teeny little tendency to not follow rules. And her off-the-books sleuthing may land her in a world of trouble.
Because for every superhero, there is a supervillain. And the villain of her story may be closer than she thinks…

Looking for a fast-paced, witty, can’t-put-down book? Well, you’ve found it. Smart, realistic, and relate-able characters plus a solid mystery & romance plot equals a winning book. If you’re a fan of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series then you HAVE to read the Frame-Up. I loved this book and can wait to read the next in the series.
A comic book cozy mystery mash up with a dash of romance flavoring. I loved this book! MG is prickly at the start and a bit overbearing, but she has a reason to be that way. How her character evolved as the book progressed was almost as good as the mystery. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the next book in the series.
A murder mystery romp through the comics world that kept me guessing to the last page. Recommended!
What a fun book! A clever mystery combined with a rom-com, The Frame-Up ticked all my boxes for a satisfying read–a witty, relatable sleuth, quirky secondary characters, interesting setting, rapid pace, mystery, and mayhem! I knew nothing about the comic-con culture and it doesn’t matter. If you like mystery, fun, and light romance, read this book!
This was the most fun I’ve had reading a book in ages! The geektastic spin on the classic who-done-it kept me guessing and squealing until the very end! While there was a romantic element (not usually my gig), it was fun and exciting, and I found myself looking forward to scenes involving the very Gryffindor cop! In short, I adored this book and can’t wait to see where the next one takes the story.
I have never read a novel like this and I certainly enjoyed the plot and characters. The plot was made unique because of the characters and the setting. The main character is a female comic book writer/illustrator and wanna-be costume designer. She is witty, fresh, caring and certainly different from most female detectives in novels written today. Her friends and supporting characters are a hoot. The love interest if a straight-laced detective who is the exact opposite.
I do not enjoy novels containing foul language, violence against women and children and/or explicit sex. I can watch the news and hear about all of these. I’ve bought many “recommended” books that were good books except they were ruined for me because of one of these elements.
If you are looking for a great read that lifts your spirits, gives you a chuckle and has romance, try this one. Written by Meghan Scott Molin, I’m anxiously waiting for her next novel coming out soon.
I absolutely LOVED this book and cannot wait until the next in the series is available. Mixing up a love for comics with a who-did-it mystery with lies and deceit…what could be better?! The main character cracked me up with her zany habits and attempt at stealth. RECOMMEND!
First off i want to say how much i loved the story line ,i mean comics come to life 🙂 how cool is that ,some person starts acting out the comic and its just awesome ! Plus a tiny bit of Romance can’t hurt !
I loved MG she is such a cool character ,she’s following her passion and isn’t sorry that she likes what she likes ,she doesn’t take shit and she’s just a fun quirky Chick and i loved everything about her 🙂 ok the first time she meets Matteo was so cute ,i mean if i was her i don’t think i would have brushed him off like she did but i kinda get it at the same time ,but luckily Matteo is a cop and he tracks her down and asks her if she can consult on the case ,she finds clues that the police just don’t see ! now she’s working with Matteo and well you know how is goes ,Feelings develop and MG and Matteo are not only hot on the case but also on each other !
I loved that Matteo is so completely different then MG’s usual type ,he’s not into the geekdom but he really listens when MG talks about it and he thinks its awesome that she shows so much passion for it ,he’s a stand up dude and i loved all the little scenes with him and MG 🙂 i wish there were more but i’ll have to wait until the 2nd book !
With cool comic scenes bursting out on the pages and a Hooded Vigilante making noise ,there can only be one out come and hopefully MG escapes unscathed 🙂 I can’t wait to read the next book 🙂 i’m pretty sure i know who the Golden Arrow is but i’m gonna keep that to myself until i read the next book 🙂
This was so much fun to read! Everything about Molin’s characters had me laughing, and at times screaming laughing. Such a great read, especially for us more “mature” comic book and superhero fans. Read this book!
Weird, diverse, odd-ball characters create believable encounters full of pathos and humor. The matchup that seems a mismatch at first turns into wry encounters. Found I couldn’t put it down the deeper I was into the story.
What a great book to start my 2019 reading. So much fun to read!
Geek chic romantic suspense, why thank you kindle first!
What I enjoyed:
The humor.
The well placed fantasy and SciFi references.
A well woven caper between the comic world and the real world, the past and the present.
What I loved!
The very best of PG13 adult romance. That heated getting-to-know-you time written with spice! The MCs are very Dharma & Greg.
“Here I am with a gorgeous Muggle, and the world still has magic in it.”
What I hated:
The civilian who dips her toe in police work and decides to go it on her own.
What I appreciate:
Character growth. Michael-Grace starts out with a big chip on her shoulder and makes some arrogant plays. But, unlike any other book I’ve read, at the end she apologizes for her drastic actions and appreciates what she’s learned.
“I spent so much time pushing people away because they didn’t fit what I was looking for, and in the end what I needed was someone to bring me out of my prejudices.”
That was enough to bring this up to 3.5 and Wookie it up to 4!
Overall: 5/5 stars
Characters: 4/5
Setting: 5/5
Writing: 4/5
Plot and Themes: 5/5
Awesomeness Factor: 5/5
Highly original concept and engaging writing. I highly recommend.
What a nice surprise! This is the first published book by this author and I loved it!! Refreshingly different but still well plotted and filled with real people, alternate “geek” lifestyles, and (unfortunately for me, since I hate romance novels) a beginning relationship between two very different people. Actually, I didn’t mind a tiny bit of romance because I was enjoying the story and the characters too much. I couldn’t totally guess whodunit (the clues were there, but nicely mixed with red herrings), but I did guess one of the guilty ones. I was sorry, though, when it ended because I was having such a good time. The second in the series will be out in mid-2019 and I’ll definitely be watching for it. Another very, very good thing: the ending was complete with all parts of the story line tied up – no cliffhangers here. This author has real class and respects her readers too much to leave important things up in the air. Watch Megan Scott Molin because this isn’t the last we’ll hear from or about her! If you are not put off by characters who are “geeks” or drag queens, but enjoy a good comedic mystery then you should give this book a try. It was great fun and I highly recommend it.
By day she writes comic books. By night she lives them.
I fell in love with The Frame-Up (The Golden Arrow Mysteries Book 1) at first paragraph. I love the voice and the content. It’s a tribute to comic book culture and to all things nerdy. The voice is sassy, sweet and vulnerable. And I “got” almost every reference which made me fell good about my nerdy knowledge. It’s also an excellent mystery and a charming romance.
I know. That’s a lot of praise. But I really loved it
AND the second book comes out in July 2019. Oh, joy!
Book #1 of New Series Holds Great Promise
PG-13. Only because I doubt younger kids would fully enjoy it, especially references to current culture favorites from Batman to Scooby Doo.
No sex.
Little if any harsh language. No f-bombs
Plenty of action
MG, who works for a graphic novel company, notices a startling similarity between a current crime and the plotline of a superhero comic book from the 1980s. Together with her new police detective boyfriend and best friend drag queen, she is determined to piece together the past with the present, including whether someone out there is actually playing at being a superhero.
Clever
Only 4 stars because, I don’t know. Maybe MG was just a little too googly eyed over Mateo.
Read it. It’s fun.
This engaging mystery takes you on a romp through a world of comic-books and drag queens, and features an unlikely, purple-haired heroine as well as the ubiquitous amateur detective/cop romance.
