My mother wants all her kids and grandkids to spend Christmas Eve at her house and wake up on Christmas morning together.
Sounds reasonable, right?
And it would be.
If it weren’t my mother.
My husband, Declan, is protesting any involvement, though he’s openly intrigued by the idea of claiming his territory by having sex in my childhood bed.
And by intrigued, I mean a series of really hot … by intrigued, I mean a series of really hot suggestions that make me whimper when I have to say no.
Wait — why am I saying no, again?
Mom has turned her house into a Christmas showcase that makes Frankenmuth look like the picked-over clearance rack at Target on December 26. You know those crazy people on Etsy who make felted gnomes out of belly-button lint and use… a certain kind of hair… to make thatched roofs on little decorative elf homes?
Those people are saner than my mother.
There is no force of nature stronger — or more emotionally volatile — than a fifty-something grandmother determined to create holiday memories.
Wait a minute. Maybe there is.
My husband.

I loved everything about this book! The Shopping series by Julia Kent never gets old. Declan and Shannon’s life take a Topsy turvy. I have started reading a few Holiday books. They have all been great and I keep raving on how great they and really they are. But something about Shopping for a Baby’s First Christmas makes me feel like it is already Christmas. You will have a lot of laughter and feel good moments. Declan is still Declan so you know you will get the hot and heated moments. It is so much funner with a house full of family!
Oh! My! I literally just finished! I read it straight through—couldn’t put it down. What a Jacobyian Christmas! So much insight into Declan’s family dynamic and the ongoing evolution of Shannon and his relationship and their family. Lovely appearances by most of the usual suspects. So much chaos, with Marie there always is, but also so much love. Baby Ellie is delightful and Chuckles as maniacal as always. He really gets his own against Marie. Also so many touching moments as the torch is passed on and Shannon comes to see Christmas as a mother for the first time. I voluntarily reviewed this Advance Reader Copy.
Absolutely fabulous read!!!! Another fun, hilarious and crazy story that fits this series perfectly. I cannot get enough of the Jacoby-McCormick family dynamics; their love for each other is heartwarming.
This book in the series did nothing for me. I really don’t like Shannon’s mother and there was way too much of her in this tale.
Declan’s character didn’t have a POV in this one. I missed them going back and forth between his and her POV’s.
One thing that really bothered me, and it is probably just me, was that Marie forced herself into Shannon and Declan’s first Christmas with THEIR first child. Seems kind of selfish to me. They could have planned to come later in the day, spend Christmas Eve together, or even come the next day. Shannon spends too much time giving in to her pushy mother, and it is really off putting.
I did like the narration, the beginning and the ending.
I didn’t think this one was a good as some of the others. I think I’m getting tired of the sexual innuendos. Each book seems to have more and more of it. This was funny in spots as usual and I still enjoyed the book.
Sweet, funny, easy, enjoyable to read, lighthearted and emotional. Enjoy how her story is the continuation of her characters from the beginning.
This was the first book I have read by Julia Kent. Shopping For A Baby’s First Christmas was the 15th book in Julia’s Shopping For A Billionaire Series. I was a little worried that I would not understand what was going on, but it turned out fine. There were a few spots that I felt I would have benefitted from reading the previous books but like I said, it all worked out. It was a quick, fun, festive read!
Who wouldn’t want to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at the house they grew up in? Building family memories was the only thing on Shannon’s Mom had in mind when she invited everyone to spend the night!
Christmas Eve started out crazy and by Christmas morning it was way past “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”. Will anyone be able to survive??
Declan didn’t want to be a part of it from the beginning. Will he be able to convince Shannon it was time to go or will they be stuck there to witness the insanity?
If you have any doubt in Murphy’s Law, read this book If it could go wrong, it did! I couldn’t even imagine being able to keep my cool after all that!!
I love the audios of these books and the story lines are just witty without being a stretch of the imagination.
Loved it!
What a funny, crazy story. I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series. Sometimes I just want to laugh long and hard, even to the point of tears. The author is soooo good at using her sense of humor to entertain!!
A spinning maelstrom of Jacoby fun. As always with this series, I laughed out loud until I hit a spot that hurt my heart. This one spun a little out of control, not unexpected, but totally entertaining.
A good lighthearted read, with characters everyone has someone in the family similar to. Enjoyed it!
I soooo love Declan’s voice. To the outside world, he’s a shrewd alpha billionaire businessman, to his and his wife, Shannon’s family, he’s a bit on the stoic side, but to Shannon, he’s a tightly wound emotional bud, who continues to blossom under her love. The depth of his thoughts and feelings for her and their daughter, Ellie, tug at your heartstrings, especially when he shares his internal soliloquies while gazing at his sleeping wife. Shannon’s quirky family and her cat, Chuckles, provide the comedic chain of events that happen at Christmas.
I highly recommend going back to read this series so you can enjoy so much more of Shannon and Declan! You won’t be sorry!
It goes a bit past “too much”
Julia Kent pens an amazing story! I was laughing so hard through many parts of this book! A wonderful time reading during the holidays!
Another AMAZING, hilarious, unpredictable… great great book in Julia Kent’s Shopping For A Billionaire Series. If you’ve not read the series I highly encourage it. You won’t they it! This is a great storyline from book one! Julia Kent Shopping for a Billionaire Vol. 1: Books 1–5
