Mallet Thorne is in trouble, big trouble. All because he listened to a gypsy fortune-teller and not his own heart. He just wanted to make right the pain his brother, outlaw Mace Thorne, caused in Silverpines. So at the advice of the Gypsy he answers an advertisement for a groom. He has every intention of becoming the husband and father to a widow and her children even though he is unsure if he … if he would be a good father and husband. That is until he sees the most beautiful woman ever. He’s drawn to the beauty even as he sees the distrust in her eyes.
Catrina Rosenmeyer hears the name of the newest man in Silverpines and is overcome with fear. Long ago a gypsy fortune-teller warned her to beware the thorn and she’s convinced Mallet is who she meant. All she wants is to stay hidden and grieve for her sister. So why is she drawn to the handsome Thorne like a moth to flame?
Can the two of them follow the gypsy’s advice or will the mutual attraction they feel overwhelm their fears and obligations? Will Mallet marry the widow or follow his heart to the beautiful Catrina? Will Catrina put aside fear and seek to build a foundation with the stonemason?

So many twists occur, so many obstacles to them being together. A little slow at first but picked right up with murder, mystery.
My free opinion. Thank.

Catarina grew up in the circus, but a fear of fate has sent her on a different path… to
Silverpines.
Mallet feels that he must atone for the sins of others until a gypsy at the circus points him in the direction of Silverpines.
This series has a charming cast of characters that keeps you entertained throughout each book. In this story, the intriguing Cat has caught the eye of Mallet Thorne. Can she let God guide her to be with her rightful mate, or will she run due to a fear of fate? Can Mallet overcome a sense of duty brought about by the sins of others, or will he let grace unshackle his heart and free him for the one he loves?

Catrina Rosenmeyer was a former circus performer and Mallet Thorne was a stonemason. You wouldn’t think they’d have anything in common. But the gypsy Nora with Catrina’s father’s circus sends them both on a journey. Her to discover why she has to decide between a thorn in her ear or one in her heart and he to fulfill a destiny and restore his family’s honor after his criminal brother destroyed it. There is an immediate attraction between them, but Catrina thinks he being a “thorn” is her undoing and he won’t be with her while he is in Silverpines to potentially marry another woman. There were a lot of quirky characters and moments including his intense fear of cats.
Another great addition to the Silverpines series. A gypsy fortune teller. A man following her advice to wed a widow with children. Mallet Thorn took that advice and ended up in Silverpines but he saw such a beautiful woman that he could not ignore. Catrina had also visited a gypsy and was foretold to beware the thorn so she was very weary of him!
A story of two people that were really meant for each other but had a journey they had to make and find trust to overcome their fears. An enjoyable story you do not want to miss!

Enjoyed this story of Mallet and Cat. They meet in the town of Silverpines where she is hiding and he arrives as a mail-order groom. The story and characters are well written. It had me from the beginning and is amusing with a mystery, adventure, twists and turns. Cat grew up in the circus but ran away and Mallet wants to right the wrongs of his brother and is afraid of cats.

This book has a surprising beginning for a Christian book, but knowing the author, I stuck with it! It was so worth it! A wonderful book with people coming to faith in unique ways!
