The second book in this AMAZING series is just as fast-paced and exciting as the first. The war between angels and vampires continues with humans caught in the middle. Liv, Declan, and his mom are on a quest to save the world. New enemies arise and old friends turn up in unexpected places (so shocking!). But Declan is still keeping secrets, ones that could tear him and Liv apart.
I’m so in love with this series! Liv and Declan are one of my favorite couples. I can’t wait to find out how Liv deals with the weight of the world on her shoulders. I need book three ASAP!
I absolutely loved this book! It is a great continuation of this series! There are lies, truths, heartbreaks. There is adventure, mystery and loss. As they continue their search for a way to stop the war that is bound to break out again between the angels and the vampires, many surprising things are discovered. Cliff hanger ending, I can’t wait for the next book!
Outstanding
I was ready for this book!
After I read the first, I couldn’t wait to pick up the second and follow Liv and Declan through a heart-pounding journey for the instruments that would stop the angel and vampire war. Of course, there is chemistry between the two but you don’t realize how much until she is faced with the knowledge that she does need him, even more than her friendship with Ash, who is a vampire now… There are so many twists and turns in this fast-paced drama. She meets new friends, who help her figure out the clues. Strangers who want to stop her and Declan’s family, the reason behind the war. When you figure out one thing, you are struck with more news…I don’t want to give away any secrets but one thing, who would’ve guessed Liv is the key to it all.
I loved this book and I’m ready to read the third. The hunt for the shield…
Unexpected heroism, hybrid characters, and still no clear path to resolution. More layers of the characters true natures are being slowly uncovered. This authors ingenuity truly shines within these pages. I am still confused as to which faction should win, if at all. Of course, this makes moving onto book three a definite must read! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
**Review Contains Spoilers**
I found myself having flashbacks to reading the first book in this series.
1. I love the premise and plot of this story.
2. I love how it uses religion without throwing religion in your face.
3. Great character development for Declan.
But, that also means,
1. Duke was a burden once again. He had even less screen-time than the last book. Why is he still here?
2. Introducing Sammarah in the last book, only to kill her off before we barely get to know her, and then replace her with someone that I’m supposed to care about by the end of the book, but I really haven’t gotten to know her well enough, is really annoying. Why introduce characters that you aren’t going to develop? They just feel like filler, like the author throws specific people in when it’s convenient and then gets rid of them when it’s time to move onto the next – except the dog, the dog can stay.
3. I really wanted to see Liv take more authority and agency in this book. It was a huge pet peeve of mine in the last book. But, once again, Liv didn’t do a whole lot except follow other people around in this book. You can see a glimmer of agency when she goes to find Trinity on her own, but then she still needs the help of others to save her ass to get out of there. She volunteers to go get the car because Declan and Trinity are hurt. But then she has to get saved by Asher. Then she stands up to Nathaniel, and it feels like this is the moment when she’s going to come into herself and take charge. Nope! She still has to have her boyfriend flash his fangs at the man to protect her.
You could honestly replace Liv with an inanimate magical artifact, and it probably wouldn’t change the story all that much.
But, I’m stuck on finding out what happens next. I have to know. So, I will be reading the third book, and I really REALLY hope that Liv finally does some things on her own where she doesn’t need saving all the time.
