It is the early 1940’s and Mary Holland is in charge of managing her husband’s newspaper while he is away fighting in the war. May and her friend Betty are organizing a talent show to raise money for wounded soldiers when their main headliner is killed. Now they find themselves in Los Angeles at the mercy of a killer trying to find a missing photo to save their lives.
Written like early crime novels but with a female lead, the reader is brought back in time to the WWII years, the time of major Hollywood studios with glamorous stars, and hidden scandals not wanting to be aired to the public. The characters are charming and some a bit naïve; Betty fainting at just about everything adds a touch of humor.
A perfect mix of mystery, intrigue, and whimsy with plot twists that will keep the reader enchanted. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When I first started reading the first one in this series, I wasn’t too sure about it but it grew on me and I love it now. This is the second book in the series. In it, Mary is trying to raise money for wounded vets. She is putting together a talent show and gets a pretty big name actor to come and preform. Unfortunately he ends up dead, causing all sorts of bad situations for Mary. She eventually pulls off finding the killer but it was close

I really love the 1940s setting with a cheer to the soldiers during the war. The greatest generation. The murder of a self-centered star requires the sleuthing of a strong woman. I did find the fainting a bit annoying. However, overall the story was fascinating and the characters fun.

Small towns rock. Pineville is such an ideal town and the perfect example of how small towns operate. Everyone knows everyone and they take care of each other. Mary has a full plate between running the town newspaper, solving mysteries and taking care of her staff and friends. She also misses her husband tremendously. Love the 1940’s setting and how life was at that time period. The plot is strong and the characters are wonderful. The humor in the story made the story well worth reading. I purchased a copy of the book from kindle unlimited and am delighted to review this story.

Clueless Chase is a great cosy mystery set during WW11. It is the second book in this series and I suggest that to fully enjoy this book you need to have read the first one or some references to past events may seem a bit odd. Mary and best friend Betty investigate when the actor headlining the wartime fundraiser is murdered. This book has all the charming naivety of a 1940s whodunit and a gentle humour which lifts the storyline. Step back in time and enjoy.

friendship and family are the key issues in this story.
a period piece set in the forties, family connections are important
friendship is even more important
can they find and detain the killer or killers?
maybe, with a little help from some new friends
strong women in a difficult period – details galore on the tech – lots of sarcastic humor and deep friendships

Allow a day for this family-friendly throwback to the forties with some differences I can’t talk about without risking spoilers.

1940’s True Crime Cozy
This cozy is the second in a series. This story refers back to book 1 several times without explanation which hinders its ability to stand alone. It takes during the WWII years and involves Hollywood Studios and movie stars as well as hidden scandal. The is a lot of action as the convoluted tale unwinds. It is much like a 1930’s true crime drama. I have read several of this author’s books and this one lives up to the quality of the others. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
